The Afolabis

Joan was sitting on the bed with her mum, in her mum's bedroom. It's already been four days since her father passed on.

"Mummy, I know this is hard for you. Just like it's hard for me, but we have to be strong, we have to find a way to be happy again. That's what daddy would have wanted for us," Joan said to her mother.

Her mother looked at her with a sad smile on her face, she had a lingering sadness in her eyes as they glistened, her face contorted as if she was trying not to cry. Indeed she was. She raised her head to ceiling and sniffled as she struggled to hold back tears from streaking down her cheeks. She didn't want her daughter to see her crying again. They were both sad, but she needed to be strong for her daughter. When she brought down her head, Joan already had tears in her own eyes.
