“What happened?” he said, pulling himself up.

Phoenix held out his hand to help the minister up, noticing that he was very different-looking than when he saw him earlier tonight. He was rather unremarkable with dark hair, twinkling eyes, and a slim body, and appeared to be what Phoenix would expect a minister to be like.

“We just killed a demon,” he said to the minister. “Oh, yeah. Sorry about the holy water.”

The minister said nothing, only stared at him with a puzzled look on his face, and then down at his clothes that were barely hanging on. 10

After Samuel Townsend’s funeral, Phoenix and Adam stopped by the Marquee for dinner. As they sat in the semidarkness, Adam studied Phoenix for a while, dreading the bad news he was going to have to share with him.
