“I had to make a living. It also deterred any suspicions that I was a witch. I mean, who would suspect a broken-down diner owner of being a witch?”
“If it was such a good cover, then maybe you should open it back up.”
“Right now, I’m just hiding out. I’ll decide what to do later.” She looked at each one, and then said, “I know you two didn’t come all this way just to discuss my welfare. What is it this time?”
“Gracie,” Adam began, “the last time we were here, not only were we chased by a ghost on a motorcycle, I saw something that scared the hell out of me. On our way home, I happened to look into Phoenix’s face and saw X-Tilla. It was just a quick flash, but his personality changed along with it. He talked about killing you and taking over your diner. He seemed excited about it.”
“We’ll get to that later. What’s this about a ghost? What’s the story on that?”
