Finally, day came to an end and Kyra came out of her World History Class. Though she wasn't a big fan of history, she didn't find it boring either like other students. It was mild for her.
Kyra made her way to the parking. Along the way she noticed a crowd of students gathered around the open stage at the back of the auditorium of the main building. The stage was used usually for making important announcements or for college concerts or annual programs. Kyra's curiosity peaked and automatically her legs went towards the crowd. She had to push pass a few stuffy and few big size students to finally reach in the middle of the crowd.
Well...better than being at the end and see nothing.
When Kyra thought she can see, she stopped going any further. There on the stage, was a guy and a girl holding microphones in one hand and holding some kind of colorful pamphlets in the other. Kyra looked around and saw the anticipation on people's faces. They all wanted to know what's happening. Some were excited while others were staring at the duet on the stage with curiosity.
"Welcome to all the freshmans of Winston University!" A big around of applause went around as the guy on the he stage continued, "Just like every year it's time to celebrate the welcome of the newcomers to the one Winston family. So, as decided by the college authorities this year too, we are going to have a Fresher's party!" The guy on the stage shouted the last part and the whole crowd went crazy hearing about the fresher's party.
The fresher's party is like an orientation of students but just among the students. The freshmans are welcomed and accepted by the other students of the University. It also helps many people to get acquainted with their seniors and get more opportunities to improve themselves. But nevertheless, it's a party so obviously there's gonna be booze brought by few sneaky students and of course it's going to unfold just like any other party.
"Guys, the party is going to be held at the end of this month. We hope to see the freshmans on this party. Also, the first event for fraternity brothers and sorority sisters is going to be held on the same day. So, be prepared." The guy went off the stage after the announcement and the students started chatting all around.
Kyra separated herself and from the crowd and went towards her car and climbed inside. Holding the steering wheel in the hands tightly, she let out a heavy breathe that she didn't even knew she was holding. Kyra knew she was not going to attend this party in any way. And it's not like it was compulsory to attend so, going there was out question.
Kyra drove back her car to her apartment after buying a few important groceries along way. By the time she came back, the sun was already set. She started to prepare dinner as soon as she entered her apartment. After changing into some soft, comfortable clothes; she started making spaghetti with mustard sauce. She let the spaghetti boil on the stove while preparing for the mustard souce. This was a simple recipe her grandma taught her while she was home schooled.
Cooking was the only good thing she has learnt during those 5 years. Her grandma was really nice lady with always a bit mischief in her old green eyes, just as same as her father and her twin brothers. Grandma was a great cook. She used to tell Kyra about her cooking experiences with her Grandpa, since her Grandpa was in military; whenever he came back home, Grandma would serve him his favorite dishes. To which her wife dotting husband would kissed her hands and looked at her lovingly.
While cooking for her whole family, Kyra, Kaiden and Keith would watch their Grandma doing miracles in the kitchen. It was so peaceful. Kyra's face lit up remembering about those times...
She missed her Grandma.
Her spaghetti was almost done, suddenly she heard someone talking in the hallway outside her door.
"You sure about this? You know I can stay as long as you want." A sultry voice of a woman came followed by a deep, familiar voice. "It's ok, I'm sure. You don't have to worry. I need to do something important anyway." Of course it was no one other than Xavier. She then heard sounds of footsteps going further away from her door.
Instinctively, she went to her living room window and stared at the parking lot. A few moments later, a girl came into view wearing a light blue skirt and a black tank top. She had long black hair flipped on the other side of her shoulder, exposing her tanned neck. Following her came Xavier and they both stood in front of her car. They were still talking and suddenly that girl started laughing at something Xavier said. After what felt like minutes, the girl hugged Xavier, though it looked more like friendly and finally climbed in her car, reversed it and went away. Kyra was staring when suddenly, Xavier looked up at her direction. She immediately hid behind the curtains.
Her heart was beating fast.
There was no way Xavier would know she was staring the whole time standing beside the window. That would be so hella embarrassing. Kyra calmed herself, pushed herself away from the wall and went into the kitchen. She took her dinner in the living room and started eating while checking her phone. After dinner, she went to do some homeworks.
Kyra's mind drifted off after finishing her homework. When she saw Xavier tonight, she became sure they were just friends. Or maybe not even that...she doesn't know. But she was sure there was nothing between them. So, there was no reason to be fretting over something that's not even present there.
Feeling a little sleepy, Kyra went into her bedroom and covered herself with her blankets like a cocoon. Instead of thinking anything else, she went into a deep slumber. That was just an unexpected meeting. Nothing else.
