The Star Spangled Protector

As Dr. Brittany took his vitals and checked his memory function, he looked to his wife sleeping in the chair. He ripped the iv and other electrodes out of himself and picked up his wife.

"Protector, I suggest you relax; you haven't moved in two months."

"I'll be fine, she deserves a good rest. She's been by my side the whole time. I could feel her holding my hand."

"Yes, she was here the second you got out of surgery and never left."

The Protector carried her back to their room, people staring at him as he went on his way. Once there, he laid her on the bed, letting her sleep. Once she was under the covers, he kissed her head and went to their closet, picking out an old hoodie of his and put on his Aviator glasses then left the room.

The Protector walked down the corridor, making his way to the command center, people began to follow him. He threw open the door, everyone inside was startled by the door, and more startled to see him standing there staring at them.

"Cafeteria, five minutes." He said before leaving the doorway.

Everyone hurried after him, eager to hear what he had to say. Once there, he took up the microphone and activated the P.A system.

"My friends, my family, I have news. As of today, well for a while by your time, I am demon free, The Ghost of Ottawa is dead."

Everyone murmured, worried that he would be stepping down.

"Rather than step down, I have chosen a new title for myself. I am the Star Spangled Protector. Let any who dear threaten our way of life, be met by the Protector."

The people cheered as he raised his fist in the air.

"I am back, no more vengeance, simply justice."

Once he concluded his speech, he followed Commander Pro-Temp Light back to the Command center.

"Fill me in, what has been going on since I've been in a coma."

"The Nazis, sir, they've been breaching more and more holes in the dimensional barrier. One Nazi officer claimed they have you on their side now."

"I wouldn't doubt it. With my demon gone, it probably found its way into their version of me. Something tells me, it is more than that. We may soon have to fight our darker demons."

"What do you mean?"

"Ever notice how when we started to care more about our people, Nazis began to show up?"

"Now that you mention it..."

"They no doubt have made contact with our other selves, even if they were dead, their med-tech was extremely advanced. They could possibly revive them, and you can bet your ass they will be here."

Light looked at his friend, the look of concern spread across his face was something new entirely, Light hadn't seen his friend show any emotion other than anger.

"This is a good look on you."

"What is?"

"The emotion has returned to your face, and thank god, I really hated all that needless aggression."

"As did I." The Protector smiled at him.

"Now, let's focus on getting our bunker ready for a full Nazi invasion."
