Luka finally comes out of Vanessa's bedroom, and I lay in wait for him to walk past where I'm standing. I expect to see a look of guilt on his face. Or malice. Or lust. Or something other than what I see, which is simply thoughtful contemplation.
"Dominik?" He asks, stopping in surprise to observe my odd choice of place and time to be standing idly in the hallway. "What's going on?"
"What were you doing in Vanessa's room?"
"I was just making sure she's okay." He crosses his arms against the tone I've chosen. But I'm seriously deciding whether or not to punch him in the face or worse, so an accusatory tone is nothing.
"You haven't been home for a week, because she's here," I chuckle. "And now all of the sudden you're back, and you're worried about her?"
