●Am I Sick?●

Shadow's Pov

There she was, dancing by the window. I hope I don't miss a note. My fingers danced on the keys of the piano, creating a piece of music. Maria started to dance to the soft notes being played. The aura coming from her was bright and glowing. It brought peace throughout my body, slowly bringing my mind to stop, only allowing my fingers to find their melody. As the song neared an end, she walked towards me. "You played so beautifully, Shadow."

I woke up sweating. I could still hear her voice. I sighed heavily letting myself slump back down. I haven't realized I fell asleep after texting Maurice about today. Rouge walked into my room, but I didn't notice. I had been seeing... Maria... in my dreams lately. I let my paws cover my face as I cried softly. She knew this was going to happen. She always did.

"Shh, it's okay, hun," Rouge said softly, stroking my quills. I let out a deep purr from the touch, yet I was still softly sobbing. "There, there." 

Rouge kept whispering sweet nothings into my ear, slowly lulling me back to sleep with her movements. I could sense her still stroking my quills, slowly moving up to my ears. She then scratched behind my left ear, causing me to purr louder. She then slowly left the room.

Rouge's Pov

When I was stroking Shadow's quills, I noticed he was burning up. I had walked into the kitchen to grab the thermometer when I heard quiet whimpers coming from his room. This was unusual, especially when it came from Shadow.

'Poor thing.' 

I walked back into his room, turned on a lamp beside his bed, and checked his temperature. 

It read: 105

'He has a fever.' I thought as I decided to call Tails. Even though that kid is eight, he's definitely smarter than me. Of course, when I called Sonic, he didn't pick up. I wish the kid had a phone. 

Eventually, Sonic picked up.

Sonic's Pov

I finally answered my phone. "Hello?" I answered groggily. I looked at the alarm clock across the room. 

'It's 4:50!' I mentally screamed. 

"Sorry to wake you up so early, but I need Tails to come check on Shadow. I can bring him to your guy's house if that's better." Rouge talked over the phone. I agreed then went to wake up Tails.

"Hey, buddy. Wake up.", I stated in the calmest way possible. In response, he groaned.

"Why so early?" he asked and I told him what Rouge said. At least the parts I could remember. 

We then went down to Tails's garage to grab his medical kit before I picked him up bridal style, zooming off to Rouge and Shadow's place.

I put Tails back down on the porch. The kid yawned as I did so. I lifted my hand and knocked three times.

"I'm coming!" 

I then let Rouge open the door, "Great, you're here."

Rouge's Pov

I led Big Blue and Tails to Shadow's room. I then walked in and shut the door behind me once the others walked in. Tails grabbed a box, I think it's some kind of medical box. He took out his thermometer, then stuck it inside Shadow's mouth, then pulled it out.

This time it read: 103 D E G R E E S

'At least it went down a little.' I thought to myself, relieved that Shadow has cooled off. Even if he was still burning up.

Tails then asked Shadow to lift his shirt. Which, Shadow reluctantly did. Tails pressed down in the abdominal region, causing Shadow to wince and whimper. 

"Hmm." Tails mumbled and jotted down something in his notepad. He then checked Shadow's teeth. Another mumble then went to check on his ears, leaving all of us confused.

Finally, Tails spoke up, "He seems to have the flu, with some side cramps. He could possibly get headaches if he drinks coffee, meaning, don't let him consume anything with a lot of caffeine." Sonic had sat down on the small reading chair in the corner, now passed out, while I was standing. Blue's snores echoed slightly. I sighed and then looked down at Shadow, that poor hedgehog. 

"Thank you, I'll wake up Sonic so you can go back home." I thanked them the best I could. Trying to hide tears is kind of hard.

Shadow's Pov

'Cramps?' I thought to myself. I didn't have the flu, I know that I wouldn't have it. At least not for long. I started to get a headache from the talking in my room. I also noticed that I'm not in my pajamas either. I then slipped out of bed once Rouge walked out of my room. I walked over to my closet and picked out some comfy pj's.

They were light red, and fluffy. The shirt was loose so my chest fur wasn't being suffocated. I hate tight-fitting shirts. I then slipped off my sweats and undergarments, putting on some clean underwear and my red, fluffy pants. Then, I replaced my purple shirt with a white, red, and black checkered shirt. I was still wearing my grey socks, so I just kept them on.

Once I was comfortable enough, I slid back into my fuzzy blanket, getting as snuggled up as possible. When Rouge came back into my room, I looked over at her, and she looked me up and down.

"Are you wearing something different?", she questioned. I just simply nodded my head because my throat was hurting—just a little. I then grabbed my phone off of the table and started to text Maurice. It was now 5:28, he could be up.

I had texted him, "Hey, are you up?"

His reply was, "Yeah, are uok?"

He must've just woken up or slipped while texting. I'm just glad he cares about my well-being even though I texted him this early in the morning. At least Faker would say that it's early.

I texted him back, "Yeah, just some tummy aches."

He answered, "Oh no" "Wish I was there to rub the pain away."

I guarantee that I'm a blushing mess right now, and Rouge wasn't helping. As soon as she looked up, I swear I saw stars in her eyes.

"What did he say?", her flirty tone coming into her voice. I just looked away, not from that conversation. It's too embarrassing.

"Nothing..." No doubt my blush only grew.

"Are you sure it was 'Nothing'?" she stated, air quoting my response earlier.

"I'm positive. Now leave me alone!", my paws covered my face and I could feel the fire burning in my cheeks.

"Alright, if you need me, I'll be in my room." she then left my room, closing the door behind her. I uncovered my face with a sigh. 

Maurice texted me again, "Goodnight baby."

I texted him back, "Baby?"

"Shoot, sorry."

I chuckled at his response. "I like it, goodnight."

With that, I drifted off to sleep.

Sonic's Pov

I can't believe I texted Terios and called him 'baby'. My face grew red as I read the final text.

"I like it, goodnight."

I guess my mistake was quite alright.
