Solitary Vampire

It’s the year 2357 on earth and the world has been at war in a three battlefront against humanoid lizards gifted by magic called dragonkin, aliens that had far more advanced technology called the Xalorians, and the remnants of angels and demons called ShadowFallen.  No to mention the aggressive beasts that roam the universe Through the war humanity has grown too big to stay only on earth, having finally gone to space and occupied planets that one could only dream of, but the universe’s mysteries are far and wide but closer than you may think. Rosaline, a young 16 year old girl, had been given a book to her by her dead parents that had died on the battlefront against the dragonkin before humanity and the Xalorians signed a treaty in the name of ‘preventing’ war and to deal with the powerful dragonkin. Like that treaty had ever stopped war and the Xalorians being hostile towards humanity. But no matter how hard she tries to open the book it wouldn’t give her face, not even pouring acid. But one day just before she goes off to her new military school after middle school, she accidentally poked her hand and a drop of blood fell onto the book.  A system appeared giving her a chance to become stronger, thinking this was a miracle. What she didn't know at the time was that it turned her into something not human. A Vampire. ********************* This novel was inspired by a lot of different media that I have seen so you may see some similarities between them. I will make sure to mention and give credit to the media when that happens. Updates everyday at 16:00 EDT I will probably be able to pick this novel back up again in December of 2026.

North Castle Hall

In those 30 minutes, Roseline was able to recover 60 of her mana.

With this, she was able to do Shadow blink 9 more times.

Getting back up and looking forward, she started to walk up the north hall.

Sticking to the shadows and taking out enemies that were placed out, the trip was going smoothly.

On one side of the hall, a door connecting to a room appeared and Roseline had entered it.

Nothing exciting was in there.

The room was a study room with books all over the floor.

Roseline flipped one of the book to read what it was but when she did she saw that the cover was faded from time, impossible to read the title.

She searched the room for a bit before heading on her way.

Roseline encountered a few more rooms like that, not finding anything that special.

During the exploration of the north hall, she had used Shadow blink 3 more times.

Running up to the knight in front of her, she punched through it's chest.

The impact made it's body move back slightly and fall out of her arm.

She didn't use the blink this time to save them, just in case she encounters an enemy she couldn't handle with just her strength.

Anyways, Roseline had gotten used to her ability since coming here.

Looking at the same huge doors at the end of this hall, Roseline pushed them open and entered the place.

Bookshelves that reached the rooftops and books all over the place came into her view.

It was a library, looked kind of ransacked, but was still a library.

As far as see could see, the library was close to the size of a big 4-story home.

This again makes her realize the size of the castle.

'Why are these castles so huge?'

All of the areas look like they belonged to giants.

Whatever species that lived here was certainly not at the size of humans.

But the books were human sized, small compared to everything else.

Walking across the dark wood plank flooring, it creaked every so often.

The bookshelves that were also make of a dark wood, had simple designs and made the place look rather basic.

But perhaps because of that basic feeling, Roseline felt unsettled by it.

The books, design, and feel of the castle were all human like but the castle and size of it was something else.

Roseline looked around the library a bit in a hurry because of this feeling.

It was unsettling.

In the center of the library, a glass case was placed down.

Inside of it was a closed book who's title hadn't faded.

Vessel of Light.

'I should take this and leave this… library.'

Getting up close to the glass case, she had an idea that she wanted to try with shadow blink.

Couching down and putting her hand through her own shadow, she tried to grab to book using its own shadow.

— -15 mana —

Roseline successfully got the book and brought it out.

'So that works. Takes up more mana though.'

She thought for a while before putting it in her shadow.

'It seems important.'

Roseline turned around and headed back to the north hall.

But once she got out of the library, the knights from before had 'respawned'.

A iron sword almost decapitated her head.

Roseline was a bit surprised at this but recovered and quickly took out the one who had just attacked her.

The other knight was just behind her when she turned and kicked it away.

With the space she made, Roseline punched at the knight but it had blocked itself.

It's arms turned into rubbish after blocking though because of her strength.

Another punch had done the job and the knight fell.

Going back into the shadows near, Roseline watched the situation to see if it would change.

While waiting, a knight much larger then the others walked up to the destroyed knights and saw there state.

The large knight turned around to go somewhere where it can replace them and left.

'So that's how.'

Roseline followed the large knight to were it was going.

The knight had stopped in front of an empty wall in the hall and part of it had started to move.

A hidden door activated and opened up.

The knight went through it with Roseline following suit.

It was like one of those underground dungeon paths you would see in games.

Tight, small, dark gray, and torches lit up on the sides.

Roseline quite liked this environment, it was perfect for Vampires like her.

The walk down was long, taking what felt like forever.

When they reached the ground, what she saw was something like a factory.

A factory for knight golems.

'That's how they were there.'

Roseline was going to destroy it when she stopped herself and thought for a moment.

'I can use this as an XP farm for now, I can come back later after finishing this dungeon.'

She went back up the stairs and headed to the hall that divided into three parts.

Once there, Roseline thought back in the book she got.

' Vessel of light, what's that supposed to mean? Sounds like it will have important information, though I doubt it will be about earth or vampires…'

Roseline yawned and decided to take a nap here.

After all even if she became a Vampling, she still needed sleep.

Roseline took some time to confirm that the surrounding area was safe before getting down and putting her head back against the cold walls.

She first tried to get as much mana as she could back into her Magic Core, bring it up to 95.

Absorbing mana from the universe took energy to make a magnetic pull in the Core.

So doing so many times will make one tired in the end of the day.

With some mana back in her Core, Roseline closed her eyes and slept to recover her own energy.

The castle was silent, not a sound was made.
