Smoke and Mirrors By Night Shade

"Hello there! Welcome to Bio-world where everything you want can bend to your will with the snap of your fingers! Want a new Bio-screen, but OH NO, you don't have enough Bio-credits to pay for it. :( Don't sweat the cost! Just give us a drop of your DNA and that new limited edition Bio-screen will be your's for the taking! Wait, you don't want to give us YOUR DNA. That's fine as well! Have a child! We'll take your child instead until your debt is paid! :) We promise to take good care of them! Now, remember nothing is as safe as Bio-safe!" What if there was a world where money was not the only source of income. Where technology no longer ran on just wires and metal mechanics. Screens, communication devices, etc all operated on your DNA. Where children of the poor can be sold for products all for their genetics. To fight in arena's for the rich's entertainment. They still have a chance at freedom if they don't die first. Being genetically modified is nothing new to Mute. Being a genetic reject isn't something new to her either. Mute is a Sui-generis. Just one of the rare genetic defects of the Perfect Bio-World. To everyone else, including Mute's teammates, the Bio-world can do nothing wrong, but Mute knows what really goes on behind the Bio-screens. Knowing the truth, Mute will do everything she can to escape the Bio-world, and get back to the one person she cherishes most. But when escaping fails, Mute's world gets thrown into chaos, and it takes every bit of will to keep her world from spiraling out of control. With the smoke lifted, and sold by the Snake Queen herself. The Sui-generis have to take a new look at their not so perfect world. They have two options adapt or be erased. Can Mute save her teammates from making the same mistakes she did or will they all shatter like pieces of a glass from a mirror?

I Think I Just Lost My Virginity

Chapter 5

"Holy, shit! I think I just lost my virginity." Zaylee spoke. Her crude words, reaching deaf ears. We all stared ahead at the man heading our way. Even from this distance, I could tell he was lethal. His hair as black and lustrous as the feathers of a rare bird I once saw Daisha form into. His walk said it all, calculated, and ruthless. He was once the top Elite Bio-human. Head of the strongest Bio-team known to man. The Drifters. He gracefully walked down the tarmac as the hover copter engine reignited. The turbines rotated, picking up speed and blowing the loose hairs off my bun around my face. The wind and speed tossing red dust from the sands decorating Euphonium. A planet we would now call home. The sound from the rotating pillars, making hearing a harder task. Not that it mattered. We all stood frozen. Our eyes still trained on the man headed our way. He practically prowled his way over to us. A set of sureness in every step. He was the first of our two team leaders to arrive. Two large swords adorned his hips. His eyes were hidden behind a pair of bio-shades. His muscular build was a strong indication of his Snake Armada history. As I noted earlier, He used to be the leader of his team, but Bio-ware eventually ejected him from the squad. That information, along with some other info marked as confidential. His whole file was confidential, but I hacked into Bio-ware servers, relinquishing some of his information. Never liked going in unprepared. I could only get a limited amount of information before I had to abort. My time was limited. The Bio-ware compu-robos were high on my tail as soon as I by-passed their hardware firewall. But before I had to abort, I quickly found:

Drakson Valor: born in the outskirts of the southern village.

Mother: Head engineer at Bio-engineers.

Father origin: Unknown.

History of Arena: Played in the Biotech high games for his learning school years. He won most of his games but lost only two in his later years. He went on to join the Snake armada after graduating at the young age of 17.

Ability: Vapor: Able to eradicate objects by touch turning his victims to ashes.

Weaknesses: His ability only extended in a five-mile radius, hot-headed, and the tendency to be brash in times of peril.

Reason for ejection: Death of team.

Cause: Classified.

In other words, he was an idiot and would get us killed. Anyone with an adolescent brain could put context clues together and add up the reasonings behind his ejection from his Snake Armada team. His picture showed a mid-twenties man. His gloating stare, reaching me even through his stationary photo. His arrogant eyes were a burning isabelline. He had a straight nose. Rose-colored lips that were somehow always in a permanent smirk leading down to a strong square chin with pale skin color. Where he lacked inabilities. He made it up in his plethora of weapons knowledge, close-combat maneuvers, and his unique ability to piss anyone or anything off. Sadly, that was about it. His ability was adequate for a close combat plan, but if we wanted to win, hand to hand combat would not be the way to do it. If his file held any truth, his attitude could presume to be an issue. The only benefit from this was that he was second in command, and we could use his abilities in dire situations. The downfalls were that he was second in command, and we could only use his abilities in dire situations. Our main leader was Kalum Trite, who had yet to arrive. Drakson made his way to our position. His arrogant smile now close enough for viewing. He stopped just two feet from us. His arms were resting on the two broad swords adorning his hips. He pushed his bio-shades on top of his head. His gray-yellowish eyes trained on the hovercraft that dropped us off long after it disappeared behind a solferino colored cloud. When is present that hover-copter was no longer present in the planet's atmosphere, He took his eyes off and gazed at us. More like ogled. Not a word was said for several minutes as he surveyed us. Someone cleared their throat when the tension in the air reached choking levels. His eyes, passing over us like we're nothing but passerby in the streets. We stood immobile awaiting orders. Our hands poised behind our backs as we stood at attention.

"Well, don't you guys look like a rowdy bunch." He asked. His smoky voice, pulling at the senses. Capturing our attention, the way an illusionist would a crowd. I could have sworn I heard Zaylee swoon. Out of the corner of my eye, I watched as Masha visibly had to strain hard not to roll her eyes. The restraint took a toll because her eyelid started to twitch.

"What?" Drakson lifted an obsidian brow. That arrogant smirk still plastered on his face. "Come on, guys. Why so serious?" Drakson pouted. His shoulders slumping slightly. He threw his head back, sighing when all of us stared blankly at him. The rest of the girls shared looks of confusion. His reaction or behavior, I should say, wasn't protocol. He should have been ordering us about what we should do next.

"Loosen up a little. Show me your wild side." He swayed his hips in some type of dance. I heard Zaylee make some kind of choking noise. Daisha kept her face impassive. Her annoyance was only indicated by the twitch of her brow. Her lips setting into a grim line. Her wavelength jumped when she spoke through the link.

"This is so unprofessional."

"Oh, girl! Don't ruin this moment for me. He is so HOT!" Kira visibly rolled her eyes.

"You need to stay focused Zaylee. Going after some guy will-"

"Blah, blah. We can't afford distractions. Yada, yada. Yes, I get the gist of things. Don't need to hear the Gow shit line for the millionth time today. I'm not going to get distracted. It's just nice to have some spice." Zaylee responded over the link looking down at her nails. His eyes scanned every one of us. Drakson snapped his fingers. His face lighting up as he came to some kind of realization. "I know! I'll start by introducing myself. I am Drakson Valor, your second in command." He paused, frowning. "Your first commander is in our training area. Awaiting our arrival." He tilted his head in the direction of a large oval building to our left. When we made an indication of movement. His eyes landed on me. His blank stare, changing into a curious one. "What's your name, heart?" All the girl's eyes landed on me. I didn't give him the courtesy of an answer. I just stared past him, waiting for him to draw his conclusions. His smirk grew wider, but I could have sworn anger flashed in his eyes. "Well, I guess since miss black hole over here doesn't wish to introduce…" "Her name is Mute sir." Masha interjected, her voice echoing across the now silent tarmac. His hard-yellow eyes glanced at her before landing back on me. His eyes, widening with realization at the meaning behind my nickname. "Never mind her, my name is Zaylee." Zaylee stepped forward with an outstretched hand. His yellow eyes snapped over in her direction before a soft smirk rose on his lips. He smoothly grabbed her hand before responding. "Well, aren't you the sweetest fruit I've seen in a while." Zaylee giggled before saying. "Oh, my." I frowned when he winked at her. Daisha was right; this is unprofessional. "I recognize that accent anywhere. What part of the Southvillage are you from?" "Born and raised from the Sutherlands." Zaylee fluttered her eyelashes at him. "Well, this is an exciting surprise. So am I."

He placed a kiss on the back of the hand he captured, which made Zaylee giggle louder. The rest of us made sounds of annoyance at their obvious flirtation. "Why don't you follow me and show y'all where be sleeping and training from here on out." He turned, walking in the direction of the Dome he pointed to earlier. Zaylee was quick to pick up her step, catching up to his side. As she continued to ask him unnecessary and unprofessional questions. The rest of us following in step at a much slower pace. Zaylee's loud laugh echoed as Drakson whispered something in her ear. Kira muttered next to me. "This shouldn't be too bad." I wanted to push her off the edge of the tarmac. Everything always turned for the worse when she said that, and we were about to find out just how BAD things could get.
