Chapter 49: Fertilizer

Looking away from the corpse at his feet Feng Biao decided to check the other Oni, making sure it was really dead.

He had trouble discerning if that was the case. After all, the only light source was the moon in the sky.

'No chances.'

Without malice Feng Biao delivered a crushing curbstomp onto the head of the creature. Due to it being an Oni his foot met little resistance.

A single Divine Mortal defeating two Green Oni could be called a great feat, but Feng Biao had other thoughts.

'If they had their weapons I'd probably be dead.'

The difference between an unarmed and armed Green Oni was significant. A club to swing around maximized their strengths and shored up their weaknesses.

'If I hadn't gotten lucky with Vajra exploding like that I would have definitely been squeezed to death.'

Feng Biao hadn't intended for his Vajra to shock both Oni. Things had just played out that way.

'And what if the Black Oni had been up here?'

He had no answer to such an event. He had climbed up fully aware that might be the case but discarded the idea.

'But if it's not up here then it has to be down there.'

Walking to the edge of the rockface Feng Biao peered down and saw nothing unusual.

Yes the Oni were still launching an attack against the wall but even that seemed to be finally be dying down.

And from the wall he counted 8 Marked defending at the wall.

Feng Biao lacked any Divinity and felt even climbing down the rockface would be impractical. He wasn't a rock climber by trade and while his body was physically stronger as a Divine Mortal he didn't feel like he had the energy to carry his own weight.

'It's not like I can help much down there anyways.'

Feng Biao felt a tap on his shoulder and turning around in the darkness saw no one. For a moment his mind didn't put two and two together. Only mildly startling him.

And there under the moonlight was illuminated the Black Oni leering at Feng Biao. Without hesitation it swang its singular arm at Feng Biao.

Without time to dodge Feng Biao attempted to guard the attack. His lack of Divinity meant he could only put up a defense with his physical body.

The attack sent Feng Biao flying back over the rockface. Both of his arms were pulverized by the strike, and Feng Biao felt this was his end. Falling down Feng Biao saw the Black Oni dissappear into the darkness, but it had telegraphed its next destination.

'Might as well do some good before I go.'

Feng Biao found it surprisingly difficult to yell and simply chose the words that came to his mind.

"IT'S HERE!"

Chen Lan looked to see Feng Biao falling to the ground and landing with a nasty thud. Squinting she saw nothing spilling out of his body. But he wasn't moving.

Which meant she now only had 7 members of the group to help her.

'That's 2 down before the final fight.'

Still some praise had to be allocated to Feng Biao. He had soloed what had taken her 4 others to do. Granted there was no wave of Oni assaulting him.

'Is he worth using this on?'

Chen Lan thumbed a vial of liquid she had kept hidden through the exam. Ambrosia a very expensive Mythological Material.

'If my family were as rich as Song Zhilan's I could have taken an entire flask of it.'

Chen Lan clicked her tongue. It was unbecoming to compare herself to a Primordial Marked.

Feng Biao's final words made it clear what was coming, now Chen Lan had to prepare for that.

"Everyone the Black Oni is near light the wall on fire and fall back."

Chen Lan then dashed over to Feng Biao's body. He wasn't in good condition. She wasn't a doctor but she could tell from looking at him he was dying.

'He's still useful.'

That was the judgement her mind told her. But she couldn't quite describe why. Nor could she tell if he was worth the price of the Ambrosia.

Looking at the others who were staring at her for direction Chen Lan answered their internal pleas.

"I have a Divine Ability I can use to kill the Black Oni, but there is a drawback. It takes time to charge up. Defend me while I do."

Saying so Chen Lan raised a barrier of ice around herself.

She then looked at Feng Biao and sighed. Debating internally whether to use a veritable fortune on him.

Xie Dongsheng sighed exasperatedly. While many were in awe of his Divine Ability being A Grade it wasn't something he bragged about.

An A Grade DA held certain expectations about it. These were abilities near the top, they should shock and rock the world.

Yet all his did was grow trees. Granted in a horrificly destructive manner, but it wasn't truly anything special.

'If I had a real A Grade DA I wouldn't have to be worrying right now.'

Looking frantically around the fiery barricade that surrounded them Xie Dongsheng saw it. At the corner a creature well above him in stature just feet away.

Unable to vocalize his distress into words Xie Dongsheng instead cried out with all his might and swang a fist full of seeds at the creature.

Most of them were deflected, but one managed to get past its guard. The seed had entered the mouth of the Black Oni.

Xie Donsheng insticitvely yelped out a cry of victory. While his DA wasn't spectacular when the seeds dug their way into a body there was no hope.

Unphased the Black Oni spat the seed out of its mouth, along with a piece of it's tongue, with great force. Directly into Xie Dongsheng's open mouth.

Normally the seeds Xie Dongsheng created would not root themself into his body. However, this seed had already began to implant itself into the Black Oni's tongue.

Entering into Xie Dongsheng's body the seed's germination process did not stop.
