Polar Opposites

The king of the stars. Also known as the lunar king. The lunar king was the king of the devils, evil, and darkness. The shadows also fear him, all but one person. The yin king was the only one who suppressed the lunar king and all his powers, sealed them away so that they could not be touched again... or so the people hoped. Where the power originates from is none other than the host itself. The harder the enemy, the more experience that the king gets. When the king gets to a certain point, the sword will engrave a symbol indicating the level of the king. Although the one who holds the power is called "king". They are called princes by tradition until they reach level 100, where the prince has achieved the peak and can be "king". A low-level one at best...

"The lunar prince? He must be delusional..."

"I know right? Crazy E ranks will always be like this..."

"Just stay away from him..."

Akashi sat down and noticed that Jin-Ae was looking at him.

"Don't worry, I was joking about that"

The confusion on her face cleared up as she understood why he did that.

"Wouldn't that put you in a bad light?"

"It would be better to be avoided than to have people near me and have the ability to back-stab me whenever they want. So if I have to look crazy to them for them to avoid me, I will."

She nodded as she dismissed him from her thoughts. The class continued with more introducing what the students were going to be expected to learn and train. Then the placement test was announced.

"Alright students, since I explained what you are going to be learning and training, I would need to put you guys into sparring partners, but for me to do that, we will have to measure your combat abilities individually and match you with a person that has the same level of skill and power. We will be conducting this shortly"

Chatter amongst the students suddenly broke out as some people wanted to become sparring partners with each other. Some people wanted to see if they could pair up with Jin-Ae as she was the only S-ranked student in the class. Then a student stood up and reached his arm out to her...

"Jin-Ae! There is no other person in this room that is fit to be your sparring partner than me! Please, will you accept this offer as I am the only one who can satisfy your training needs?"

Akashi chuckled silently and Jin-Ae sighed. This student had an A-ranked mage badge on his uniform. He seems to be a model student for all the other students and they seem to be agreeing to this.

"First student please!"

The student who just stood up walked to the examiner with the air of importance and winked to Jin-Ae.

"Wait for me, my princess."

Once he left, Jin-Ae put her face into her hands.

"Even though that was ridiculous... he's not wrong..."

Akashi looked over and raised an eyebrow

"Oh?"

"He seems to be the only talented student in this class... Though it seems like he has a crappy personality... I would rather have a person like you as my sparring partner. It's a shame that you are an E-rank..."

"... Is that a request?..."

She giggled a bit and shook her head

"No no... I was just joking. Even though he seems to have an idiotic personality, I can see that his skills are on par with some of the best A rankers out in the big guilds."

"Even though his power is enough for you, I don't think you can overwhelm all of them."

She smiled and nodded

"Ah... your very observant of noticing how all of the A ranks in this class are supporting him. Your right, I can't win against eleven A ranks... That's just too much even for a low-ranked S rank like me..."

Akashi shook his head and shrugged

"I'm sure you'll be fine"

"I hope so..."

The student came back and Jin-Ae was next. A score was posted on the board, KELVIN: 77,342.

"Even low-ranked S tiers would achieve a power score of 82,000 minimum. No wonder everybody looks up to him...", Akashi thought to himself.

Kelvin gave Akashi a smug grin, but Akashi was looking out the window as he saw people training outside with magic, swords, or bare hands. Kelvin got a bit agitated that Akashi didn't notice it but kept his posture.

"What a spectacle...", He said.

Jin-Ae came back with a score of 89,293. Calling herself a low-rank S tier was just modesty. A test examiner walked in and looked around for Akashi.

"Hashimora, your the last one."

Akashi stood up and walked out of the room. The test examiner and Akashi headed down to a closed-off area. It looked like this area is an indoor training gym but was transformed into a temporary testing site. A large white crystal in a rectangular shape was in the middle of the room. There were staff, books, knives, and swords on the sides of the room. All identical.

"Your a swordsman correct?

"Correct... How will I be evaluated?"

"Your score will be calculated with how disciplined you are with a sword, how hard you can swing, how sharp of an angle you cut at, and the speed of the swing. Please pick up a sword from the rack."

"So the crystal can measure all of that?"

"Yes, sometimes people make a dent into the crystal but the score can be low and some dent it, and the score can be high, it just depends on all the other factors besides strength."

Akashi nodded and picked up a sword from the rack and headed to the examiner

"What are you doing? Go to the crystal slice or stab it."

Akashi shook his head

"I'm fine here."

The examiner shrugged

"Ok... START!"

Akashi returned to the classroom and everybody was talking amongst themselves. The instructor walked in and settled everybody down. He then went to the board and ordered the scores. The order of the scores will decide who will be paired with who. The first name to be written is Jin-Ae, which was to be expected, the second was Kelvin. Jin-Ae muttered under her breath as she saw this.

"Curses..."

Akashi gave a small smile towards her and nodded. She noticed this and sighed.

"I guess I'll grin and bear it for the next few years..."

As the list grew on and on until the instructor stopped writing names. Akashi's name was nowhere to be found.

"Pfft, was that E-rank so weak that he couldn't score?"

Kelvin had said this aloud and the whole class laughed except for Jin-Ae and all the other students who were below C-rank. Then the instructor wrote "Freelance" on the board and this confused the whole class. Everybody is supposed to be an offensive type student in this classroom and the freelance role would usually be given to healers as the evaluation for healers cannot be determined from a crystal but instead a human, giving no score. Then the instructor wrote his name. "Akashi: 0"
