Scolded

"Doctor, how is she?" Lexus rose when the doctor got out of Anna's room.

"Are you the one who brought her here?" the doctor asked. His hair was grey and he was wearing glasses. Lexus assumed that he may be in his fifties or sixties.

"Yes. I'm her fiancé," Lexus repeated the lie he told the nurses. He froze when the doctor re-arranged his eyeglasses and stared at him.

"I would like to speak with her family members instead," the doctor said, clearly not trusting him.

'Was I too obvious?' Lexus thought.

"Both her parents are in another country. Her grandmother is currently admitted to this hospital. I can fetch her grandparents for you but I have not informed them about this yet since they might panic," he reasoned. He was glad he spent his night investigating her background.

"I see," the doctor fixed his glasses once again and glanced at Anna. "Was that your doing?"

Lexus followed the doctor's gaze and flinched when he saw it was the red mark on Anna's wrists.

"Y-yes," he admitted guiltily. When he lost his cool, he did not realize he was holding her wrists too tightly. She never complained about it but it must be one of the reasons she got angry.

"Were you two in an argument?"

"Yes. We were arguing and both lost our cool," he admitted.

The doctor was silent for a while as if pondering if he could trust him. Lexus could no longer take it and decided to ask.

"Doctor, our baby is safe, right?" he asked nervously. The doctor's eyes narrowed in obvious displeasure.

"If you knew she was pregnant, then why were you arguing with her to the point she lost consciousness?" the doctor asked and Lexus could not reply.

'That's right. Why was I arguing with her? I was supposed to be coaxing her to marry me. Why did I lose my temper so quickly,' he sighed. He was usually a calm person.

"Are you asking if it's safe because you wanted it to be safe or the other way around?" the doctor asked and Lexus was wide-eyed.

"Of course I want the baby to be safe," he quickly replied.

"Are you the father?"

"Yes," he quickly responded once again and the doctor frowned. Lexus now understood why the doctor was wary of him.

Due to the red marks on Anna's wrists, the doctor suspected that Anna was pregnant with someone else's child. And as her fiancé, Lexus was forcing her to get an abortion or refused to break up with her which caused the argument.

"Is our baby safe?" Lexus asked again.

"If you want your child to be safe then learn more about women during pregnancy," the doctor said and Lexus suddenly got a long scolding as the doctor educated him before finally telling him that the baby was safe.

Anna lost consciousness due to extreme emotions. And of course, it wasn't safe for the baby.

"It's normal for pregnant women to feel nauseous oftentimes. They may also lose consciousness, but not this long," the doctor explained.

Lexus was all yeses as he was told to avoid provoking Anna since pregnant women are irritable and emotional due to the hormonal and physical changes happening in their bodies as they sustain another life inside them.

'That's right. Why did I fight with her? Am I crazy? I almost cost us our child,' Lexus involuntarily shivered when he realized the gravity of the situation. He almost harmed his child. He knew it wasn't completely formed yet but it was still his child. He gasped when he realized that the fetus could have been harmed already.

"Doctor, the development of the fetus was not harmed in any way, right?" he asked in alarm and once again got a good scolding.

"Youngsters nowadays! So irresponsible," the doctor said in exasperation. Lexus listened silently since he needed all the information he could get about pregnancy. He could research later but it was best from an expert's mouth.

The doctor then discussed for a while before finally leaving since he had another patient to tend to.

Lexus learned about the dos and don'ts with a pregnant woman. He got an idea of the food and drinks she could not consume, possible allergies, morning sickness, cravings, and the like.

The doctor even discussed when it was safe and not safe to have sex and Lexus was grateful for it. He knew he would still lust for Anna even if she was pregnant so the doctor's discussion was very helpful.

He earnestly thanked the elderly doctor when he left and the doctor shook his head in exasperation.

Since Anna and the baby were safe, Lexus thought that perhaps he could inform her grandparents now. But he realized that Anna might get furious that he was showing himself to her grandparents without her consent.

He was tempted to meet her grandparents and inform them that he was the father of the baby. He wanted to tell them that he was more than willing to marry Anna and take responsibility for the child. But Anna might lose consciousness again due to fury so he stopped himself. He'd rather not risk his child's life.

He thought that it was weird that he was already so attached to it. He thought that women were supposed to be more attached to the baby even if it was still a fetus since it's inside their body. But Anna said she was going to abort it if he insisted on marrying her.

'How could she even say that?' he thought as he caressed her belly. Just the thought that his child inside her may get harmed was already making him feel tense and protective of it.

It was a weird feeling for him. He had never thought of being a father since he hadn't thought of marrying either.

But now that he was about to be a father, he was so excited and nervous at the same time. He felt happiness he never felt before. So when she said that she would abort it, he totally lost it.

"Don't touch me!" Anna's voice surprised him. He instantly pulled away his hand from her belly. She had just regained consciousness but she was already glaring at him. He wondered how to placate her.
