The Entitled Ex-Secretary

"Good morning, Mr. Lin. I hope you're having a good time despite the fiasco with the Ming Industry earlier."

Ezekiel sighed heavily behind Lucas, shaking his head in disappointment.

Rex, clearly not in his perfect mood, ignored the woman's snarky comments and went straight to take his seat.

Lucas, trailing behind him, noticed the woman's glare of disgust. She was representing Xia Lei Marketing and Lucas had seen the woman earlier before while Ezekiel scolded him.

However, he did not pay much attention to her since he had his own work to do. He took a seat beside Ezekiel and proceeded to take out his tickler and a black pen.

"Let's not waste time."

As Rex fixed his collar and tie, he flipped open the file cover and began scanning the report.

"As you wish, Mr. Lin."

The woman replied, starting her presentation, which began with bad news. Rex raised an eyebrow, his mood darkening even more.

"Apologies for this, Mr. Lin. We tried reaching out to the celebrity and the marketing PR, however, all of our calls went straight to voicemail. I guess she's still having a hard time with her break-up and can't focus on any of her advertisements."

Lucas glanced at Rex, whose expression remained neutral yet tense.

He also noted that none of the executives at the meeting seemed to have found the woman's comment amusing.

"Anyway, the product is still performing well in the current market and we are still looking for another celebrity for its promotion."

She then continued explaining the statistical graphs of the product's performance since its release and how it was doing now in the market.

However, the woman's unnecessary comments served as a way for Lucas to see Rex's irritation.

At last, the meeting came to an end and Lucas realized that he had barely grasped the details.

He glanced at Ezekiel's clipboard, wanting to see his notes, but noticed that it was just as blank as his own.

"Hey, at least I tried. I mean, sure my reports were as bad as the Ming's but I will bet that mine were still better than them."

Lucas was about to exit the door when he heard the commotion near Rex's desk.

He turned around to see the woman sitting at the edge of the table, awfully close to Rex. It was as bright as day that she was trying to flirt with the CEO.

However, both Lucas and Ezekiel could see the annoyance on Rex's face— it was a bit unbearable to watch.

"Lilian. Off the table, please."

The woman ignored him and slowly crossed her legs in front of Rex. Rex had to clench his teeth hard to restrain himself from making a harsh comment at her.

The CEO cleared his throat, calmly pushed his chair back, stood up in front of Lilian and bowed slightly.

"I'll be leaving. Ezekiel will now escort you out."

With that, Rex walked out of the room while Ezekiel looked at Lilian, his expression unfazed.

"Did you really have to go through all that? Seriously, Lilian?"

She merely shrugged, jumped off the table, and grabbed her small bag and some paperwork from the table before walking out of the room.

Ezekiel held the door open for her, with Lucas following in tow.

"I just don't get it. What don't I have that made him cancel the engagement?" Lilian fumed.

Meanwhile, Ezekiel and Lucas only listened to her rants in silence as she stomped her pointed heels on the tiles, making Ezekiel slightly concerned that she might just puncture a hole in the floor if she kept doing it.

"I am rich. I came from a prominent family. I am sexy, beautiful and kind. What more could he want?"

Lilian stopped in her tracks and turned to face Ezekiel, her lips pressing tightly together and her eyes pleading as if asking Ezekiel a favor.

"What?"

Ezekiel did not hesitate to ask while Lucas, on the other hand, listened to the entire conversation intently while hiding behind Ezekiel.

"Please tell me what more I should do. I have done everything I can to make him like me."

Ezekiel sighed for the nth time, however, he still refused to give her an answer.

"Ezekiel, please come on! Give me something! You've been there with him since childhood—you must know something or the other!"

"Lilian!"

Lilian was startled by how loud Ezekiel's voice was.

Even Lucas was shaken by the voice; he had never heard Ezekiel use that kind of voice to him, not even when he was scolding him earlier.

"It's not my place to tell you anything. Yes, I may have been with Mr. Lin since childhood and I might have some idea of what kind of life he may want in the future, but he's my boss. And sharing such confidential information would breach the contract that I have signed."

Lilian's pout deepened as she rolled her eyes and crossed her arms in annoyance.

Lucas, who was still hiding behind Ezekiel, stepped forward and stared at the woman from head to toe.

Lilian felt his eyes and she looked back at Lucas with one of her brows lifted high.

"What?"

Lucas seemed unfazed by her attitude, shrugged and folded his arms.

"Oh, nothing."

Lucas innocently answered her, but his eyes remained fixated on her, not budging even an inch from his current position.

"Oh, I know there's something. Are you blinded by my beauty as well? I know everyone does."

Lucas, who was now gobsmacked by her confidence, let out a chuckle at her confidence. Now he completely understood why Rex might've ended their engagement.

"Wow, I don't know who has been feeding your head with these lies, but my god, they must've lost their minds."

Lilian gasped at Lucas's remarks, her mouth falling open in surprise as she glared at him.

"Excuse me?"

"You're excused."

Ezekiel, who was observing the scene unfold in front of him, snickered at Lucas's quick retort.

"Listen here, you little runt. I don't know what your role is in this company, but you are being incredibly disrespectful."

Lucas could barely restrain himself from rolling his eyes at her.

'If someone's being disrespectful, that's her. With that awful Dora the Explorer haircut and those chained earrings that would have been better suited if looped around her neck instead.'

"Oh apologies, Ms. Chu. I assure you, I am not trying to be disrespectful towards you."

Lucas smiled as he emphasized her surname, a slight hint of mockery evident in his tone. Lilian's eyes flashed with anger and she was about to grab him by the collar when Ezekiel stepped in.

"Ms. Chu. I think it's time for you to leave."

Ezekiel with his deep, commanding voice, persuaded Lilian to stop in her tracks and compose herself, however, Lucas could still see her seething anger through her innocent, calm facade.

She shot one last glare at Lucas before forcing a smile and thanking Ezekiel for their hospitality.

Then, she turned and walked out of the revolving door.

Ezekiel turned to Lucas and cleared his throat.

"And you, Mr. Lin is waiting for you in the garden. Go there now."

Lucas nodded and headed toward the garden. As for Ezekiel, he burst out laughing, replaying the confrontation from before in his mind.
