Adeline escapes
She sat back down, were the bad men her mother warned her about her uncle and his gang? She didn't know but it all felt wrong.
"CLEAR THIS WHOLE BUILDING AND FIND THAT CHILD!" he said before leaving the room along with the other man that held a big black bag on his shoulder.
The room was locked with Adeline inside. Her heart was beating fast, she had to run away one way or the other else she might end up like her mother.
The room was empty, seeing as though she was safe enough, she stood up and walked to the place her mother laid. The blood was cleaned off already but she still felt her presence.
Tears roll down her eyes as she called out for her mother , she knew her mother was gone and she hated her for the fact that she promised to find her.
Adeline looked to the window, they were wide open. The thought of jumping through there crossed her mind but she was reluctant.
Finding courage, she jumped through it and landed on a rosemary bush nearby. It broke her fall although she had a few bruises.
She stayed there a while with her head hung low, she was waiting just in case a guard was nearby so that she won't get caught.
Her plan was to run through the maze which was close to the big gate, she would sneak off and find somewhere else to go to from there.
The road was clear, she sprung out of the bush and headed towards the bushy maze.
Little did she know she had miscalculations, some guards were approaching there and saw her try to run away.
"There!" One of them shouted
His loud voice made her flinch but she didn't stop or look back. She cursed at her little legs, they weren't running as fast as she wanted. At this rate she feared she might get caught.
One of the men pulled out his gun and aimed at her legs. The other one held him, "don't hurt the child, who knows how the boss wants her"
Adeline successfully entered into the maze.
"Urgh I should have just blasted those tiny leg of hers" the one with the gun cursed as they followed suite into the maze.
The other assured, "don't worry, with that deficient body I doubt she would get far".
They began searching.
They were right, she squat down at a corner to catch her breath, the lack of essential nutrients in her body caused her early fatigue. She took subtle breaths.
"Hey I know you're in here'' they announce and she held her mouth with her hands,
"It's okay you don't need to be afraid, your err...mother has told us to fetch you" the man said
Adeline held her mouth as images of her dead mother came to her mind, they were lying to her. Her eyes became watery and tears threatened to fall.
"Common out, we won't hurt you" they assured.
Getting her strength back, she picked off.
The men notice rattle sound and turned that direction, the one with the gun out of annoyance fired the bullet.
Adeline immediately stopped at the sound of the gun, she stood there shaking. Her legs wobbled and her heart ached.
She reached out to her arm, she wiped the warm liquid and looked at her palm. Her pupils dilate and her breaths unevened. That was the same liquid she saw coming out of her mother
Her mind raced as myraid of thoughts flew through them, would she die too?
"Hey! what did you do that for?" The other asked
"That little shit is getting on my nerves" he replied
"You've scared her now how are we supposed to find her. She has no idea what's going on and you just scared the shit out of her"
"Don't worry, if she's scared now it means we'll find her easily"
They noticed the rattling had stopped which meant she was no longer running, they just hoped the bullet didn't reach her.
Adeline fell to her knees, her legs refused to work and she could hear their footsteps coming closer.
She began to crawl. She knew every part of the maze so she got out easily.
She was near the gate and in high hopes too.
The guards only followed the sound she made while crawling. "Oh my how pitiful" the first one exclaimed at the site of her crawling to the locked gate.
Adeline didn't stop at their voice, she believed there was still hope of escaping.
"Common I already told you, you're mother is waiting for you" the second said.
This time they just walked behind her as she crawled, not like she could get far with that.
She kept crawling till she got to the gate. The two guards stopped, "see, you can't leave besides your mother will be worried. Come with us we'll dress your wound and give you a delicious meal" they offered.
To their surprise, with the help of the gates bar she stood to her feet. Putting her hand first, then her whole body, she passed through the space between the bars
"Hey!" The first one yelled
The second aimed his gun but she had already picked off in the left direction.
Immediately they were alerted and open the gate to follow her, "how slim is that kid" the second one asked in disbelief
They came out but they only saw a black car, they didn't see Adeline anywhere.
"No way she would have gone far" the first one said
They walked to the car and knocked on the window glass. The driver came out, dressed in a casual t-shirt and cargo pants.
"Where's the little girl that came out here just now?" The first guard asked
The driver wasn't intimated one bit by their fierce looks and guns, he shrugged "what are you talking about? What girl?" He asked
The guards exchanged looks, "we would like to see the inside of your car" they asked politely
"And why will I show it to you eh? You're not cops are ya?" He asked
"Do we look like we want to play some silly games with you?" The second guard asked
"Open it or else—"
His threat was interrupted by the entrance of a police vehicle that halted before the scene.
"Any problem gentlemen?" The police man asked through his window. The guards were quick to hide their guns, they smiled
"No no we are just having a little chat" they said
Taking this as an initiative, the driver entered his car, "I'll be leaving then" he said and drove off
The police car left also.
"Shit!" The cursed. The driver even used a cover for his plate number.
