Chapter 1
The early morning dew was so cold but refreshing. The birds chipped and the wind was at ease.
"Be up " Said my husband. It's time to get the kids ready.
He cooked breakfast already and was making juice.
I jumped to my feet realizing I had over slept. I rushed to the bathroom and hurriedly took bath. I got the kids ready and took them to school. My husband went to work as usual.
Upon my return to the house, I heard a loud noise, as I got closer; the were group of woman gathered not far from my house.. I try to make inquiries about what was going on but no one paid attention to me.
Later that evening, my husband got home with a bag of chips.
"Hi honey, I was able to get the kids home from school...the kids bumped into me happily..
"Mommy, I got an A+ im my Maths test today" Said Priceless. I kissed him and said thanks baby.
My marriage appeared to be an average and happy one.
The kids were happy, our activities were so intriguing day after day.
Early one morning I heard a shout from the dinning room..I jumped to my feet n ran outside.anxious to know what it was..what happened!! My husband said
"I slipped and fell..by then he was sitting in a chair looking unharmed...
" Awww...im so sorry dear".
"Are you sure you are okay"?
" Yes I am he said" as he got dressed and went to work as usual.
After going through my house clean up the whole day, I went to my husband's study table. I packed all his stuff n while packing, I came across a letter and I started to read, Dear Irene, before I knew it my door slammed. I shockingly wrapped the letter n threw it behind the box. It was my husband.
" Why are you back so early I asked ? "I hurrily came to pick up my file why? " Oh okay".
He took a brown file from his table and left.
Anxious to read the letter, I locked the door quickly. I looked behind the box to get the letter but the letter disappeared.. I searched the entire room but could not find the note.
I was afraid, so afraid. How is it possible? I plundered over it the entire night and couldn't understand how it happened..He never looked behind the box..I was there the entire time... how is this possible I said to myself ? I turned and turned the entire night.."Are you okay"? He asked..Yes I am fine.
"But why are you not asleep by this time of the night"?
"I just can't sleep" . He try to put me to sleep like a baby cuddling me and playing through my hair . By 3:30am, I fell asleep like a baby.
I still continue searching for the letter as days went by, and weeks went by.
One Sunday evening I asked.
"Honey, can we go to the movie this evening"?
" No, said my husband. Now that's abnormal I thought to myself.
"Why honey I asked" ? Because I've got a meeting by 6:00pm.
"What kind of meeting is that and why by that hour of the day"?
"That is none of your business he said".
I got so mad and left him outside.
I went to the room and I slept off. I woke up by 10:00 pm and my husband was no where to be found. The kids were all asleep and the house was opened up..I woke up and locked the main door and waited for him to come home.
By 2:00am in the morning, my husband was no where to be found..I started calling his phone, but it was switched off.
I opened my door and decided to looked down stairs. I looked around and there was no one around.
I entered my locked the door and eventually fell asleep.
I woke up in the morning and my husband was in the house.
I was shocked, how did you get into the house?
" I saw the door open and I came in".
But I locked the doors myself.
" Shoooo" he said with his fingers to his lips.
"Dont disturb the kids.
They are already up and getting ready for school.
"Can we talk about this later"?
"Sure honey, I replied.
We got out for our activities as usual.. I couldn't get rid of the thoughts of what happened.
Later in the evening, I received a call.
" Hello " Is this Mrs Aquas?
" Yes, how can I help u sir"?
"You have been short listed for an interview at the Company you applied.
"Come on Tuesday with the original of your documents.
I was so excited as I dropped the line.
"How do I break this news to my husband"?
Should I wait for him to come home or should I call him now?
I plundered over my decisions for a while.
Later that evening, my husband came home.
"Honey, I have a good news for you".
"What is it" ?
" I will be employed soon.
I received a call for an interview on Tuesday. My husband was so excited as I was.
"This calls for a celebration"he said. He grabbed a bottle of champagne and pop it open.
" I prefer we step out to celebrate, he said as he poured the champagne in a glass.
" Yes honey lets do this".
We got dressed and left that evening for a eat out.
It was a very soft and wonderful evening as a couple.
"Honey, I said..I want to thank you for all the love and care over the years.
Its been 4 years and I appreciate you so much.
"But there is something I want us to dicuss".
"What is it love" ?
"I want us to send the kids to my mother because I will be going to work".
Please honey, it will enable me to have time to work and spend time with you.
"Okay, you got my approval".
I was happy like never before.
The kids were scheduled to leave that weekend to go and stay with my mom.
We slept off with ease that night.
Early Saturday morning, the wind was blowing.
The rain drizzled.
It was a reminder of the rainy season.
The house was so cold.
The kids were ready to go to mommy.
We talked to them that we will be seeing them from time to time.
Daddy give them the assurance of his presence always.
It was a teary moment for us as we drove them and assured them of our love.
When we got at my parents house, mommy was so excited to see us while dad was resting In his room.
"Where is dad? I asked.
"He's resting" mommy said.. The kids were turned over and we left.
We were all alone in the house and that's when I started to work effectively as I got employed at a multi millionaire company.
I had a higher income than my husband and I had to work over time most weekends.
We never got to meet our boss, not yet.
My husband started keeping late nights .
I try to inquire why, but it was just about work, he said.
I got to work one morning.
While sitting behind my desk, a tall handsome guy entered my office.
He was a stranger to me.
"Can you pls make a cup of coffee he said"
"Yes sir".
while making the coffee I asked.
"Who are you Sir ?
"I am an employee here but I came back from running an errand for the boss.
"Who is the boss Sir "? And where is he ?
"U never met him"?
" Not at all Sir.
" Can you cut out the Sir and call me Tony"?
" My name is Anthony call me Tony for short. With a hand shake, I said.
"My name is Philline Aquas.
" You can call me Mrs Aquas.
"Oh wow! Are you married?
" Yes Tony, I am.
"It was nice talking to you and thanks for the coffee.
He walked out of my office.
"Wow! he's so handsome and nice.
I couldn't get the thought of him off my mind.
My husband came home late again that night..
"Honey, what's going on" ?
"Why are you keeping late nights"?
" You are getting me worried.
" I'm so sorry.. I will try to come home on time".
I then noticed his ring was not on his finger and it was unusual.
" Honey, why are you not wearing your ring?
There was a sudden moment of silence.
"Uhmm... I think I left it at the office"
He looked confused, I said to myself.
His phone started ringing,
"Excuse me i got to take this call" he walked out.
I try to ease drop but I couldn't hear anything.
The night was long because we became silent.
We didn't talk to each other until the next morning.
I woke up and the silence continues..
We left home and went our separate ways. When I arrived at the office, the was an emergency meeting called.
The meeting was just a little bit of orientation for the new employees.
Tony came in very late.
"How are you Tony"? "I'm great he said" with a big smile on his face.
His smile melted my heart and made me feel better for a moment. Why do I feel so much calm? I started to question myself.
While closing up my files for the day,
Tony entered my office.
"Phill can we have a drink together after work"?
"Uhmm..I'm I'm..
"Come on Phill, its just a drink. It won't hurt."
" Okay, let me close up my files and we can go. My phone rings
" Hello darling, Where are you? I'm still at work honey.
" Is anything the matter"? You sound tired.."
"Yes honey I wanted to pick you up from work.
"Don't bother I said. I got to pick something up first before coming home.
"Just look outside your office window".
