Waves. Sunshine. Sand.
These are the three things that make his heart flutter. Weird as it seems to many, but every summer he looks forward to come here so he can ride the waves and feel the sunshine on his back.
Today is particularly a wonderful time to surf. So he puts on his surf gear. The whole body mirror in his hotel room shows a muscled body with strong arms and broad shoulders. His athletic body has made women swoon as he walks down the sand towards the sea.
Women in bikinis walk around him, flaunting their beautiful bodies and yet, his eyes focus on the waves. For some men, it will be enough to lay themselves down beside the beautiful women that crowd the beach but for him, the waves are the most beautiful thing in his eyes right now, that no other distraction can ever stop him to ride it.
So he sets himself towards the water. He lies on top of his board, feeling the hard surface on his chest, and then, he paddles slowly towards the waves. The water rolls beneath him as the wind brings tiny waves underneath his board. He will wait for the wind to push towards the water and create a much bigger wave to ride on.
His excitement engulfs him as his eyes focus on the waves as it rises up slowly. A little more and he will be on top of the world. Slowly.... slowly as the waves come, and then, one quick movement, he pushes himself up to stand on his board when suddenly.....
"HEEEELLLLLLPPPPP!!!!" A desperate cry coming from afar reaches his ears.
He almost falls off his surfboard as he jumps off it quickly, wondering where the voice was coming from. He listens carefully when he hears it again but the waves push him down as he held on to his board.
"Fuck!" he curses as soon as he swims back up. He tries to listen again and soon, he hears it much clearer.
"HELLLLPPPP!!"
It was much louder than before and his eyes searches through the sea and soon enough, he found the person who was asking it. He swims back on the shore, dragging the surf board with him, drops it and dives back into the water. The blue sea engulfs the body of the person as it sinks deep underwater. He swims faster, eager to get her in time before the waves sinks her deeper underneath forever.
As soon as he reaches her, he pulls her out of the water.
"Hold on," he orders and he swims back to the shore with the woman holding on to his neck. As soon as they came to the shore, she lies down on the sand, coughing out the last drops of water from her throat.
"Are you okay?" He asks as he hovers around her. Her eyes are shut closed. Droplets of water covers her body and she takes deep breaths as her chest rises quickly.
"I'm... okay," she says. She then opens her eyes, meeting his gaze over her.
Dave suddenly feels drawn to her ocean blue eyes. Her hair is like the waves in the ocean, and as bright as the sun.
'Beautiful,' he thought, and for the first time, he finds something to admire aside from the waves. The summer heat scorches down on their wet bodies as he reaches for her hand to sit her up. She rises slowly, never letting her gaze apart from him and instantly, they both feel the connection.
'Brown eyes...' she thought as she smiles at him. He smiles back.
"Hi... ummm... I'm-I'm Dave," he stutters. He chuckles, thinking how stupid he must have looked.
"Nice to meet you, Dave. I'm Carrie," she replies. "Thank you for saving me."
Dave nods and sits beside her.
Carrie looks over to the sea once again.
"I could have died in there if not for you," she states. "I never thought it would be that deep. I mean... I think overestimate it."
"Do you want to learn how to swim?" Dave blurts out before he can stop himself. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to-"
"No, no! I would love to learn if you will teach me. I mean... if that's okay."
"I would love to," he replies as their eyes met once again.
The next day, Carrie came wearing her blue striped stringed bikini.
"Hi, Dave," she greeted happily in front of him as he swallowed hard. Her eyes turned bluer as she gazed at him. Heat rose to his cheeks as he never expected the woman whom he had saved yesterday would have a gorgeous body, since she was wearing a one-piece black swimsuit with a white t-shirt over it.
But now, her full round breasts fills the bikini top and her pear-shaped body lay before him that he tries to look away to shove the images forming in his head.
"So... um.... Carrie, I'll teach you some breathing techniques before we swim in the water, okay?"
She nods.
"Will you teach me how to surf, too, later on?"
"Well, do you want me to?"
"Yes."
"But first, swimming."
"Okay."
Was it love at first sight? Perhaps. For after that day, they began to spend more time together. Not only did she learned how to swim, Carrie had also been better than him in surfing.
He laughs as the memories continues to fill his mind. Now, as he looks over to the child riding the waves with him, he cannot help himself but be glad he had found Carrie. Otherwise, where will he find a much better view but to admire the two women in his life?
"Jasmine," he calls as the girl turns towards him. "You did well."
The girl beams at him as she walks carrying her pink surfboard on her arm.
"Thanks, Dad," Jasmine replies. She is only eleven and yet, after a few attempts, she has learned to surf in a day.
"I'm proud of you," he says.
"I know," she replies.
"Come on you two," a woman in her forties, waves to them, and they quickly walks towards her.
This is love for him. A family to come home to...
He walks over to his wife and cupping her face, he kisses her. She gets a bit surprised but she smiles after he lets her go.
"I love you," Dave says, smiling.
"I love you, too," replies Carrie.
"Okay, okay. Let's stop the lovey dovey, guys. I'm hungry," Jasmine interrupts and both of her parents chuckles.
"And we love you, too," they say in unison and pull her towards them for a group hug.
Family is love. This story has been inspired from a scene in a Korean drama entitled, “Lovestruck in the City.” Characters and story itself was not derived from it but rather created by me.
Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy reading it.
