Old Friend

We are about to enter the Guild Master's Office to report what happened.

"May I enter sir?", the receptionist asked.

The unknown voice behind the door said, "Yes, you are free to enter."

Then we entered the room with the Guild Master's permission.

"Excuse us..."

He was in a room with a coat rack beside the entrance, shelves full of books everywhere in the room, and the Guild Master was sitting on a desk with two chairs in front of it with some paper on the desk. Looks like requests from people.

The Guild Master himself has shut eyes with round glasses but is a little squinted. I can see a faint opening in his eyes.

He has black messy hair and wears a black mage's robe with a staff beside him for quick use.

"Ohh~. So you're the one who broke the mana crystal."

"I here, have a giant mana crystal to measure your mana, please pour mana into it."

I examined his body beforehand and he was holding no hidden weapons under his robe but I discovered a little detail on his body. He was using an item to change his appearance.

"Sir Surge, could you please revert to your original appearance? I'm sure you're not that bad-looking."

"Oh~ You got me good."

The Guild Master then took off a ring from his pinky and reverted to his original appearance.

Now, he had yellow hair with blue eyes. He had a long ear too.

("Hm... So he's an elf, huh?")

"A-"

"See? Not so bad, right Ms. Receptionist?"

When I looked at her, she was looking emptily at him like she was not believing her eyes. Her mouth was wide open too.

After blinking 2 times, she rubbed her eyes and opened her eyes again. But Surge's face didn't change. He still had yellow hair with blue eyes.

("That's a very common anime cliche. Very common.")

"Guild Master is that you??"

"Yes, this is the real me."

"Ohh. So this is the first time anyone had seen your face, huh?"

"Yep. Now, to continue, please pour mana into the giant mana crystal."

"You have magic eyes right? "

"Wow... you got me again."

He used his magic eye to measure my magic.

"Hah??"

"What the hell is with this large amount of mana??"

"And your mana crystal is huge too!"

"Haha... well, I trained my whole life so..."

"You need at least 15 years to collect this much mana!"

"Well, I collected mana for 15 years."

"Then how are you not dead??"

"Pure luck."

I sneaked near the empty looking receptionist and whispered,

"Was the Guild Master always like this?"

"Nope, this is the first time I've seen it like this..."

("Now that I think about it... he looks really familiar... the sense of nostalgia is pouring into me.")

"Hey, Sir Surge... You look kinda familiar...

William...?"

"How'd you know my real name?"

"Wait... Yuuki?"

"William!"

"Yuuki!"

"You've grown, huh?"

"Yeah. Haha! You're the same as always. You have never changed since the last time we met. As expected from a high elf."

"It's the first time I've seen such a huge mana pool. It's unbelievable. You, humans, are supposed to have small mana pools and low magic power."

The receptionist looks at us dumbfoundedly and said,

"You two know each other...?"

"Yeah. I knew him since he was a kid."

"Oh. And I'm a high elf so I can live several hundred years so right now, I'm 313 years old."

"Eh...?"

"Oh, and he's my mentor."

"That kid is your mentor??"

"He's the best mage I know even though he was still a kid. I think I met him when he was 7 years old and he made Original Spells based on Basic Magic Spells. When I met this kid, he already has the mana pool of an adult. He was the best at controlling and manipulating mana."

"What??"

"What are you surprised about?"

"Hah..."

"Eh...?"

I caught her when she fainted.

"Ah. She fainted..."

"I forgot she's bad at handling surprises."

"You idiot. You should've told her all the details slowly so that it won't surprise her."

"Ok, I'll remember that."

"Too late. You spilled it all now."

"So, how are we gonna rank you?"

"I'm probably gonna fight you to rank me."

"I'll probably lose..."

"We'll never know that if we don't try."

"Ok. There's a teleportation circle there leading to an arena. Just stand at the circle and it will teleport you."

I stood at the teleportation magic circle and got teleported to a massive arena.

"Wait... we're gonna fight here?"

"Yeah. You might destroy the whole city if you go all out."

"Maybe."

"Ok. The first one to get injured or surrender loses. You may use both magic and swordsmanship."

"Ok, stand over there."

I walked to the place where he pointed and faced him.

"You know Barrier Magic, right?"

"Yeah."

"Nice. I can finally go all out."

"Just don't kill me, ok?"

"Yeah, yeah..."

"Hey! You said that half-heartedly!"

"No, I didn't. Don't worry I won't kill you."

"Ok, Now... Start!"

I ran to the left and William ran to the right, circling each other.

I used Chantless Magic to Fireball Bombardment while I charge the Meteor Ledge on the sky.

He dodged some of the 3 Fireballs but there are 9 more Fireballs.

He made a thick Water Wall and blocked the Fireballs which is effective.

While I concentrated some more, I was able to use the third spell while I was charging Meteor Ledge and Fireball Bombardment.

I used Eruption on the Water Wall and spreading water all over.

I then launched the Meteor Ledge which he couldn't react properly because it was flying at a terrifying speed but he was able to cast an Aegis Barrier to block it.

He was being elevated off the ground and is now in the air due to the immense power of the Meteor Edge.

While blocking the Meteor Edge, he shouted, "Oi!! Are you trying to kill me?!

"Nah..."

He pointed at me and said, "You said it half-heartedly again!!"

The Aegis Barrier was barely able to hang on before the Meteor Edge starts to lose its speed.

While the Meteor Edge was gonna fall, he cancels out the current Aegis Barrier and made another one to block all of the remaining fireballs. Barely able to hang on.

But when he was still mid-air, I pointed my hands into him making a gun hand gesture. Water started to gather on the tip of my fingers and after a few seconds, I released all the water on the tip. Then the water flew in bullet speed and almost hitting William's neck but I stopped the bullet from hitting it.

["Haha! I actually made magic on the spot! Hmm... Let's call it Water Bullet"]

["Wha-"], said necros in the background while having a face that is clearly saying "Impossible..."

After that, he landed with both his feet and said,

"Phew! That almost killed me. What was that magic?? I've never seen that before!"

"It's called Water Bullet and I made that Spell mid-battle."

"What?!"

"I could've killed you if I wanted it you know?"

"Yeah... I knew that from the start."

"Hahaha!"

"Hahaha!"

And after that, we came back to the office through the teleportation circle and I was promoted to A-rank Magic Swordsman...
