Long Dream

Ares had a long, long dream.

###########

*pant* *pant* A disheveled black haired boy could be seen running in a dark alley, a full backpack on his frail body slowing him down.

The boy ran and ran in the dark dirty alley, stepping on waste of unknown origins, passing pieces of bones and eerily human shaped skulls devoid of all flesh, as if eaten by a pack of hungry beasts, hidden in the trash from time to time, but the boy didn't give it any importance like he was used to it and kept running, his laborious breath breaking the silence of the dark trenches.

*pant pant* 'it's here!'

The young frail boy made a sharp turn and crouched down near a pile of mysterious waste and started digging with his small hands.

After digging for a bit longer he found an old steel plate on the ground, the boy was barely able to lift it as he quickly squeezed himself trough the hidden hole underneath.

"Elder Brother!" "He's back!" "quick quick! help him!" A group of kids were waiting for him in the darkness of the sewers, there were 4 of them, a short black haired girl with deep dark eyes, a long blond haired girl with blue eyes, a boy with auburn hair and green eyes, and a sickly silver haired girl sleeping on the dirty ground.

The things they all had in common were their frail and malnourished dirty bodies, their Hunger, and fear for their extremely sick sister.

The black haired boy tried to get his breath back under the anxious eyes of his brother and sisters.

They started looking for any injuries and asking if he was alright.

"Don't worry, I was being chased but I lost them, but it doesn't matter now, I got the medicine!"

The boy said with joy and hope on his little weak face, he nearly got himself killed earlier trying to steal this medicine from the 'inside', but he can't afford to make his family any more scared.

"I'm glad your safe." The blond girl hugged him with tears in her eyes, her red eyes and tear marks a telling of how terrified she was waiting for her brother.

"We need to give her the medicine quickly!" The black haired girl was impatient as she hurried her elder brother towards their sick sister, the other kid was making sure the hide place was hidden, closing the steel plate.

"I'm fine, sister, don't worry..."The black haired kid patted his blond sister and quickly went towards the white haired girl laying on the ground.

She was breathing weakly, pressing his ear to her chest, he could feel the faint heartbeat, a grimace adorned his face.

She didn't have long to live.

He quickly searched his bag for the medicine bottle, he brought it close to her mouth and helped her drink it, some of it spilling on the ground.

*cough cough* the small white haired girl coughed as she swallowed the medicine, feeling slightly better, just enough to open her eyes and look at her elder brother, a worried and scared look itched on his face.

"...you shouldn't have risked your life for me, brother, i accepted my fate long ago." The girl said with sorrow and weakness in her voice, she was weak from her birth, always causing trouble for the group, her fragile health caused her bother to risk his live in the 'inside', in her regards she wasn't worth the effort, they were suffering because of her just to prolongue the inevitable.

But contrary to her expectations the boy had a kind smile on his face, "you are my dear little sister, i will never give up on you, you didn't choose to be sick, and i will never leave you to die silly." He gently patted her head, the girl didn't dare stare at him, tearing up at her brother's words and care.

"Sister!" "Your awake!" The other two girls arrived near her to take care of her and make sure she was recovering.

"Is she alright?" Questioned the other boy, looking meekly behind his older brother, he just came back after hiding their base entrance with piles of waste.

Sadly their reunion came to an end.

*BANG* the steel plate covering the entrance hole was destroyed as men wearing dark uniforms jumped in.

"AAAAH" "DONT COME NEAR!" "BROTHER HELP!"

the children screamed in fright, they were weak, frail and hungry twelve year old children.

And even then their elder brother, came in front of them to protect them.

"I'm the one you want! Leave them be!"he screamed, trying to at least save his family.

But the men didn't care for his words.

"For humanity, you will all be detained, do not resist." The soldiers then approached them, on their hands a collar.

"No!" The two brothers tried to fight, but two blows to their heads with a baton put them to rest.

The black haired girl tried to claw one of the soldiers eyes but was shocked with a taser, making her feint.

The blond haired girl couldn't move, staying in front of her sick sister, but she too followed the rest shortly after.

The white haired girl saw all of this, her heart a mess, she was the cause of all of this.

Soon they were all taken away.

#####

The dark haired boy woke up in a hurry, his head aching madly, but he gritted trough the pain and looked around the white room they were in, they were surrounded by white walls, the entrance of the room a locked white steeled door, his face turned grim, finding only half of his siblings remaining, steel collars on their necks. His black haired sister hugging the blond sleeping girl. But he noticed his brother and sick sister missing.

He opened his mouth in a shaky voice.

"Whe-where is Amber and selene? what happened?"

His black haired sister answered in a strained voice.

"....They just took Amber away, Serene wasn't here when i woke up. they must've took her somewhere else...." Her voice was filled with dread and fear of their unknown fate, she could barely hold herself from breaking down, shown by her shaky hands.

The boy's blood ran cold.

'No...no no no!' He clenched his hand till he bled, his nightmares came true.

"Luna....Is Iris alright?" He looked at the delicate sleeping blond haired girl.

"...she's just shocked....Ares..what are we gonna do...." Luna hugged Ares, crying on his shoulder.

'...I don't know...' Ares hugged Luna tightly, he felt like laying there and scream, but he couldn't, he had to stay strong.

"It'll be alright..." but his words were cut short.

A loud scream sounded, filled with intense pain, pain that would drive someone insane, a scream so chilling it made them tremble.

"Amber!" Ares banged at the white steel door Till his hands bled, but the screams wouldn't stop.

Luna slumped down, looking lifeless, hugging the crying iris that woke up from the scream.

"Let him go you bastards! Stop!" Ares furiously shouted, banging the white door repeatedly, painting it red, but it was pointless.

"Please....just stop...." he kept shouting till he couldn't anymore, his dried throat hurting in every word.

The screams soon turned inhuman, then they suddenly stopped.

Ares fell down, he couldn't hear anymore, a buzzing sound in his ear. he could see his dear sisters crying, their world crushed beyond repair.

He knew...that hell awaited them.

They kept waiting for a long time, then the door opened, a guard entered and went towards Luna.

"DIE!" Ares furiously jumped towards the man, bloody hands aiming to strangle him and break his neck, but the moment he approached the man he was shocked by the collar on his neck, paralyzed, he could only stare with his bloodshot eyes as Luna was forcefully taken. 'Luna! Stop!' He begged but no words came out, his body refusing to move.

Iris tried to pull her away from the guard but she too fell down, her body twitching and unable to move.

Luna was sedated by the guard and taken away...

Ares and Iris kept waiting In miserable silence, embracing each other as tears poured down.

....soon screams sounded again, filled with madness, the unknown scared Ares, were they being tortured? Experimented on? What could cause a human to scream till their vocal cords tore.

Her screams too stopped....

Then came Iris's turn, Ares failed again in his attack, the same situation repeated itself, and so he lost another member of his family, with it his anchor of sanity, his mind shattered like glass, broken, defeated...

It was finally his turn to meet the unknown horror, the guard quickly sedated him as he felt his consciousness dissappear...

#######

Ares was brought In a room filled with machinery, operated by scientists and soldiers behind reinforced glass, Ares was restrained on a table, countless machines beeped, connected to him by small needles.

"Test subject is stable, The Alpha shard is stable, starting Expirement 666."

Ares could barely hear the words of the scientist.

a beeping sounded, followed by the machine on top of Ares moving towards his chest, a black shard ejecting red light in its mechanical grasp.

Tiny machines appeared around it with surgical equipment attached to them, controlled skillfully by the operator.

"...for humanity." Was the last word Ares heard as he was plunged in a world of utter pain.

His chest was cut open, the shard inserted in his heart, fusing instantly.

The moment the shard touched his flesh, red lightning surged and enveloped his body, traversing his blood, veins, muscles, flesh, bones, nerves, everything was burned and reconstructed rapidly dozens of times, his screams turned animalistic, not having any semblance to being human, his vocal cords tore, his screams akin to a wail of a dying beast, the room shook as lightning surged, the surgical table he was being restrained on kept vibrating and shaking, lights went on and off as blood poured from every orifice of his body.

His wails turning to roars.

"This...this is unprecedented! The shard never had this much of a reaction!" The scientists were happy , uncaring of the torture happening to the poor boy.

Ares drowned in the pain, his mind going blank to protect itself, his body trashing wildly.

The shard's malice destroyed his mind, then remade it stronger than before, putting him in a cycle of pain.

And amidst all of it all, he remembered, pain and rage mending his broken mind.

He Remembered what happened, his family also went through this hell, they suffered what he suffered, and he lost them, he had nothing left, a part of him felt tired, desiring to just give up the fight and rest.

But that part was soon overwhelmed by deep, abysmal hatred, a desire for revenge, to kill, a hunger that ordered to consume everything, those people should suffer, and they will.

His eyes opened to show blood red pupils, fixed on the faces of the operators, soldiers, and scientists.

Blood tears streaming from his eyes, in a final roar of overwhelming pain and wrath, he lost consciousness. And so The beast of the apocalypse was born.

############

In the infirmary, Ares opened his eyes, his heart in pain, the first thing he saw were the heads of Sunny and Nephis staring at him worriedly.

"Why are you crying?are you hurt?" Sunny asked.

Ares touched his cheek, feeling wetness, his mind in shambles, filled with rage, sorrow, and fear.

He barely held himself from screaming.

"....it was just a dream...."

/don't read wordcount/

Long before the world had shape, there was only The First, a being of light who wove the stars and whispered life into the empty dark. Wherever The First stepped, oceans rose and mountains followed. For eons, creation blossomed beneath their touch.

But with every beginning, there must be an end. From the shadows left behind, The Last emerged – a crimson beast crowned in fire, whose breath turned forests to ash.

"You cannot walk where I do," The First said, standing at the edge of a newly formed sky.

The Last grinned. "I walk where you finish. I am the echo of your hand."

The First continued their work, raising valleys, sowing life, and crafting the threads of time itself. Yet behind them, The Last followed, unraveling those threads, swallowing stars, and leaving silence.

One day, The First stood at the brink of the universe, nothing left to shape. "Is this how it ends?" they asked.

The Last stepped beside them, gazing into the abyss. "Only if you stop."

And so, The First knelt and whispered a final creation – Hope. A small, flickering light.

The Last watched curiously but did not extinguish it. Instead, they sat and waited, for they knew that even after the end, something new would rise again.

"As long as you create," The Last said, "I will return."

But The First only smiled. "And so will hope."
