“That you think your son is satisfying his most vulgar needs with an innocent child,” he replied in a breath. He saw Rye and Angie both raising their eyes to Ingrid’s colorless face.

“Well, are you?” his mother asked him without missing a beat.

“No, Mom, I’m not. But by the look in your eyes, I don’t think you’ll ever believe that.” Liam sank back into his chair, defeated.

Then unexpectedly, Will stumbled into the kitchen. His short nap seemed to have sobered him up a bit. “What’s going on?” he asked, rubbing his face. “Where’s everybody?”

Liam quietly rose. “Nothing. I was leaving.”

“Oh, okay,” Will muttered. “Liam, can I talk to you before you go? In private.”

Liam hesitated, but Will seemed eager to share something with him. “All right.”
