Kieran climbed back in and shut the door.

“Gotta go, Ted. If you don’t mind.”

“Okay then. You have a nice vacation. I’ll talk to you when you get back. I’ve got a lot more to say to you Liam. Lots more.” Ted sounded serious. “I’m not gonna let you quit so easy.”

“Ted, listen, can I ask you for a big favor? You think maybe, well, maybe you could try to explain things to Rye? Maybe get him to see it from a different angle. He thinks something’s wrong with me and I need all the help I can get in making him see I’m still the same man he’s known all of his life.”

“I’ll do my best. I’ll have a talk with him. And ask Lizzie to step in. She’s good at these things. Meantime, you take care of that young man now, you hear? What’s his name again?”

Liam looked over at Kieran and sighed out in relief. “His name is Kieran. Kieran Miller.”

“Nice name…Well, have fun.”

Liam hung up.

Ted’s words and support filled him with a powerful tranquility and he wanted to revel in it for a moment.
