Chapter 37

“Liam, you know what? I think Will might be sleeping with—”

But before Rye could finish his sentence, Liam’s phone rang. He pulled it out of his pocket and stared at the screen, his heart knocking hard.

“Aren’t you gonna get that?” Rye looked over at him. Liam didn’t reply.

Rye shrugged and put the truck in gear.

In Liam’s hand, the phone was still ringing, and with every ring, the screen lit up, displaying Liam’s home phone number. He covered it discreetly, cupping the screen with his fingers.

“Hey, someone reallywants to talk to you.”

Liam watched the screen turn blue as the phone gave out its last ring.

“Looks like your girlfriend gave up on you.”

Liam couldn’t sit still for the remainder of the ride. He was too eager to get home. He couldn’t believe he’d been reduced to this. He couldn’t even answer his own phone anymore. His life didn’t make any sense. Things were not as they should be.
