Rye pulled into the parking lot. “Okay, boys, we made good time. Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go! Don’t keep Coach Tremblay waiting!”

The boys plucked their bags out of the opened trunk and ran off. Liam waved at Angie, who was standing by the bleachers. She smiled sweetly and waved back. Her belly was now so big, Liam couldn’t understand how she managed to stand, much less sit through all these games.

Angie’s smile was always warm, and he wished they knew each other better. You’re so different from Rye,she’d often say to him when he helped her with the dishes on Sunday nights. You’re gonna make someone really happy one day, when you finally settle down.

Rye blew his wife a kiss through his open window and they drove away.

It was Thursday. They were heading for their parent’s home, both nervous about it.

Rye turned the radio down. “You think maybe we could try talking to Mom about getting some help for Dad or—”

“Not yet. She won’t wanna hear it. It’s still too early.”
