Escape pt6

I woke up as pain shot through my body. I felt a hand on my shoulder, shaking me slightly. I opened my eyes and closed them quickly, the sudden light blinding me. Opening them again slowly, I squinted and looked around. I could feel hard earth underneath me and a warm furry wall surrounding me.

Looking up I see bright blue eyes. So bright there almost white. Seeing a torch hovering above me, I frown. "Oh, thank goodness you're awake! Are you okay?" A voice whispered excitedly nearby.

I don't say anything, as I wait for my eyes to get used to the sudden light. I look to where the voice is coming from and see... "Speranza?" I ask. "That's my name don't wear it out," She smiles sarcastically. Her eyes widening as she backs up a little. I blink. Then slowly try to get up and ignore the pain that shoots through me. I look back up.

Speranza looks at me then lifts an eyebrow. "Are you okay?" She asks looking worried. "Huh? Oh, Yeah, I'm fine." I stutter, trying to wake my brain up. I start to stand up, but I'm stopped by a large paw wrapped around my legs. I turn around to see what it is. I see Fluffy, my Kethien wolf, laying next to me. His eyes were closed and he had bight marks and slashes all over his body. Blood soaked his fur and ran down his left eye. Suddenly I remembered what had happened! I gently moved Fluffy's paw off of me then looked up at Speranza.

She looked at my panicked expression "What happened, Sam?"

I gave a quick explanation. "I got into a fight. " She didn't look surprised.

"You're injured-" I interrupted her. "Fluffy is hurt, But I'm too weak to pull him back into my space. We have to get him outside where there's fresh water and air."

I stared at Sam as he bent over his wolf and poked him in the snout. "Wake up Fluffy. we have to get you out of here." He said as he started pinching Fluffy's nose.

"You have such a violent way of waking people up," I say, watching as he starts to pull poor Fluff's ears.

"I need to wake him up. There's no way imma be able to carry him."

"Why don't you pull him back into your space?" I asked cocking my head.

"I already told you. I Can't, I'm too weak right now."

Suddenly Fluff jumped up and growled, his beautiful gold eye scanning the area. Looking for any sign of danger. The other eye stayed shut. The cut looked bad. When he saw Sam he stopped. Suddenly Fluffy became a big ball of fur as he pounced on Sam, bloody fur and all. He licked his face happily. Relieved he was alright. He started to yip like a little puppy. I was flabbergasted. A giant wolf was barking like a small cub! "What on earth is happening?" I said staring in shock at the big animal. Then at Sam who was laying on the ground, groaning from the wolf's weight. The wolf looked up at me just now realizing I was here. He started to growl again, stepping closer. I stood, frozen. "A little help here Sam," I started to panic.

Sam struggled to get up as he called out, "It's okay Fluffy, she's a friend." He winced and almost fell over, the pain from the fight starting to catch up to him. Fluffy turned quickly and ran up to Sam. Licking his wounds. I sighed in relief when fluff moved away. But stayed on guard. "You're right. We should get moving. Your wounds look bad and Jakie is worried sick. Tell me what happened on the way." I say as Fluffy lets out a whimper. "Right..." Sam said turning away from me. Fluffy nudged Sam then laid down.

"Get on," Fluffy said to Sam, looking at him.

My eyes widened. I knew spirit animals could talk and it was a normal thing, but I was still surprised.

"Good idea," I said stepping closer to them. "Grrrrrr... " I stopped.

"Fluff, leave her alone. And no. I'm not getting on your back. You're hurt."

Fluff tried to protest but Sam started walking the way I'd come in. I hurried to catch up. Careful to avoid Fluffy. "Sam, you're hurt bad. You really should get onto Fluff. Fluff's back looks fine. It's his face and arms that look bad. I don't think the blood on his jaw, neck, and stomach is his." I said looking at Sam's blood-soaked shirt. Sam winced and grabbed his leg. "No." He said starting to limp. "Yes." I insisted. "No." "Yes." "Ugh, can you not?" He started to limp faster but it was easy to keep up since he was hurt. "I'll stop when you get on Fluff," I said, nodding my head towards the large wolf. "You're so annoying." He said glaring at me.

I felt a little uneasy. He looked terrifying. I put myself together and glared back at him.

"I like to call it persistent," I said swiftly stepping in front of him stopping him in his tracks. It looked silly since I was at least two heads shorter than him. He tried to go around me but I blocked him with my arm. He looked down and glared daggers at me, but I ignored him. He was so stubborn.

"You're hurt, Sam. Get on Fluff or I'll make you."

"And how will you make me?" He said squinting his eyes. I smiled, but it lacked warmth. "Kick you in the b***s and throw you onto him," I said simply, not batting an eye. He looked surprised. Then shook his head.

"Fluff would bight you if you did anything to me. Plus now that I know what you'd do I can dodge it." He turned to go around me again but I moved over. "Oh? Are you sure about that?" I said giving him an evil smirk while waving the torch in my hand back and forth. He gulped. We both knew I was fast. He may be slightly faster but with his wounds, he wouldn't be able to dodge.

He sighed in defeat and climbed carefully onto Fluffy, avoiding the cuts on his back. I waited for him to start moving again before talking.

"Soooo," I said bending my head to the side looking up at Sam with a questioning look.

He didn't look at me, just kept walking forward. Avoiding my eyes.

"When I saw what that man did to that little boy I snapped. It's been bad enough with everyone being forced to work all day, getting whipped and starved. I guess that man hurting that kid was the thing that made me lose control.

I killed him a few seconds after releasing Fluff, but... I was outnumbered and was taken down not to long after." He said sighing. "I'm surprised I'm still alive. I got away lucky." Finally, he turned and looked at me. "I don't regret it. The only thing I regret is not doing it sooner and getting Fluff hurt.

I looked at him sympathetically. "It's okay. Fluffy will be all healed up when you get better. They heal fast when there in their owner's space." I said trying my best to keep up. He was obviously going this fast to make me suffer. I had to start sprinting just to keep up with the long fast strides of Fluffy.
