Rens Databook: Hiro style genjutsu

Hiro style genjutsu

We never get to learn more on the Hyuga despite them having one of the three great Dojutsu but if you pay close attention you'll spot their members everywhere. The Hyuga are more important to Konoha then is highlighted in Naruto as they can be found in almost all divisions of Konoha. Ie barrier, sensor, interrogation, etc.

It's not that farfetched the branch family which does not have heavenly revolving palm or other main family techniques available, to develop outside techniques. It's just survival. So Hiros genjutsu isn't as impressive as you would think, it's merely a creative twist using the Hyugas cursed seal Fuinjutsu as a baseline.

As the wiki states:

"Genjutsu can be used to manipulate others - similar to brainwashing - by feeding the victim illusive suggestions."

Particularly the Byakugan is uniquely useful for genjutsu.

" The Byakugan can at least increase the effectiveness of the user's genjutsu, as Kaguya Ōtsutsuki combined her Byakugan's vast range with the Infinite Tsukuyomi in order to subjugate entire nations."

Hagoromo also corroborated this when speaking about the Byakugan. Now the reason Byakugan is so effective for genjutsu is that it aligns well with base requirement for its mastery.

" genjutsu require precise chakra control in order to manipulate the target's senses and advanced intelligence to make the illusion convincing."

Chakra control comes naturally with gentle fist and the nature of the Byakugan allowing one to see the chakra pathway system. Also due to the Byakugan allowing one to perceive the most minute details it's perfect for creating advanced illusions.

Where Hiros genjutsu differs creatively is the combination with the Hyuga Fuinjutsu. Essentially he creates a memory in the form of genjutsu and implants it to the target via a sealing technique that operates on the concepts of the Hyuga cursed seal. Something you should assume some branch family members have researched to remove.

The Hyuga cursed seal is unique as it operates naturally without the requirement of outside chakra. Once the user dies they make their eyes useless. Logically where is the chakra for destroying the eyes coming from when the host is freaking dead?

I don't know but I believe it takes a portion of the victims chakra daily and stores it to eventually be able to trigger this seal at anytime. This is why I connected it to Mito and the Uzumaki. If my conjecture is right it's too similar to the strength of a hundred seal to not be related. More importantly the cursed seal directly affects the brain making it perfect for memory alteration.

Overall this is what allows the Hiro style genjutsu to maintain the changes to the victims memories without additional chakra expenditure and makes it extremely useful for brainwashing.

So for example Hiro style Genjutsu: Blank

Ren is merely projecting a memory of a white wall and instilling that memory to overwrite all of the victims memories. Or in the case of the usage in the story a memory of him flicking the victim off.

It's not perfect though. No jutsu is. We haven't gotten to that yet. Just note it hasn't been used on anyone that could defend themselves.

PS. Its original but upon some delving into Boruto it turns out this is also a canon jutsu.

Boruto actually has something similar in the Genjutsu Cursed Seal. The user Gekko's entry tells all:

"Showing a strong aptitude for genjutsu, Gekkō is able to warp people's perspectives and re-write their memories."

I discovered this after Hiros ability was already created but clearly it's doable. Hiros just happens to be slightly improved.
