The law was slow to act in Nova Daria, which was part of the reason why organized crime was flourishing. After so much talk of recession and national debt, budget cuts have decimated the police force.

What can I say, I was just a stupid kid. I handed over the chocolate bar. Our parents were called and we were accused of theft. My parents were very upset, and even though it was just a juvenile record, I brought it to the attention of the police.

The most popular sport at my school was lacrosse. It was a brutal game where players had to be fast and tough. Although bats were used to catch the ball, they were more often used to bludgeon their opponents' legs and knock them out of the game when the officials weren't looking. The fact that the team was mixed didn't seem to stop the violence, although some of the guys weren't as rude to the girls.

I joined early and played a lot. My reflexes were good and it kept me in great shape. Taylor had changed from a nervous little girl to a cruel and angry 13 year old. She wasn't good at following her coach's orders and was inevitably cut from the team at the start of each season for getting into a fight with a teammate or an opposing player.

Her long, slightly curly brown hair and deep brown eyes probably haunted many of my classmates' dreams during high school. She had an easy laugh and a twinkle in her eye that was instantly adored by everyone.
