Chapter 50: Is this for real??

There were about ten 'best' Aura equipment in the whole catalog provided by the lord.

"Was he trying to scam me?" I even had such thoughts in my mind, but I had to discard them as The Lord was merely the protector of an Intermediate town with two Elites for its defense.

If we think that way, these ten pieces of 'best' equipment were excessive for such a small town. It was by no means the number these two would be able to utilize, as almost eight of the pieces had nothing to do with their specializations. It might have been something kept within the treasury deep within the guild, only to see the light today as he was trying to rope me in.

Also, these equipment weren't even the ones we could purchase easily in the guild like the longsword I had on me. They were treasured equipment especially selected by the lord to rope me in.

Well, I wasn't against the idea, as I even found an intriguing pair of equipment just by glancing at the catalog for once. There was a picture of a pair of gauntlet and a description besides the pair of gloves that were crimson red in color was the thing that piqued my interest. The gauntlets were reminiscent of the blood that flowed through all of us.

The thing that intrigued me regarding this pair was its description, the monster that these gauntlets had relation to.

" Was the description accurate?"

"Was it really related to the being from the legends?"

I had no answer to these questions. But, Gotta believe the description of the best equipment in the whole catalog.

"Dragon," it was described as equipment made from the claws of a true dragon that once roamed this world. I wanted to believe it, but I couldn't. The true dragons I read about in legends weren't easily slain, let alone turned into equipment they despised.

True dragons hated weapons, believing they sullied their strength by granting even a feeble creature the ability to slay powerful dragons with a single, potent weapon in their hands.

——————————

Draconic Claws of Oblivion:

This equipment is believed to have been crafted from the claws of a true dragon that once roamed this world, capable of destroying it with a single slash.

Although the claw has lost any semblance of its former glory, it remains a genuine 'Aura Equipment' that can easily increase the strength and defense of anyone capable of equipping it.

Note: Several worthy(as we believed) warriors have tried equipping this equipment trying to awaken the slumbering soul of the Dragon(supposedly) inside it but to 'No avail'.

" Do you think you've got the chance? Come and try awakening the slumbering soul of a dragon. Hahaha…😊

Required Contribution Points: 10,000

———————

"Oh boy, that was a hell of a description."

It felt more like a scam intended to have some weak-willed warriors purchase it for an absurd amount of contribution points within the guild.

Just looking at the contribution points required to purchase this bad boy would make any warrior in the town sweat buckets; it was absurd. And the half-baked description made it feel like the work of a con artist who didn't even have the skill to scam anyone effectively.

"What soul of the dragon?"

"What awakening its soul?"

"Did these people believe preserving the soul of the legendary being was as easy as scamming unsuspecting warriors who are just trying to protect their lives by purchasing equipment?"

It felt ridiculous on several levels, but I wasn't in a position to question the reliability of the description either. So, let's move on to the next intriguing equipment, shall we?

Next was the 'Armor of the Fallen' which was described as,

—————————

Armor of the Fallen:

This equipment is believed to have been brought into this world using the tendons of a fallen being. It boasts incredible defense but comes with one drawback: the warrior equipping this armor will have their agility reduced by 50%.

You'll become an incredible tank, able to block attacks from elite-ranked (tier-3) opponents while losing your mobility in the process.

Good luck surviving stronger monsters than yourself.

Contribution points: 9,500

—————————

I was more than interested in this armor, but the drawback was too steep for me. It might become the perfect equipment for those specializing in 'Defense,' but I wasn't willing to be restricted by one armor that doesn't even let me utilize my Runes properly.

As for the third and potentially last piece of equipment that intrigued me somewhat, it was:

——————————

Wand of Arcana:

Believed to have been made using corrupted Arcana that once breathed life into several creatures, this wand has the ability to turn the dead into corrupted entities that will battle for the wielder.

However, the power it grants comes with consequences. It corrupts the user, draining their vitality to fuel it's abilities.

You will perish before you can even reel in the sensation of gaining strength to destroy the world as you see fit.

Contribution Points: 6,900

———————————

This wand was perfect for someone who relished causing chaos, even at the cost of their life. I was intrigued but didn't want to utilize this wand because I could essentially create a runic weapon with the same effect, but without its vitality-sapping ability that would kill the user for the strength it provides.

" Will the rune I make have the same flaw?"

It was something that would be answered in future if I ever wanted to control the army of undeads for my amusement. I am perfectly fine with being one powerful warrior right now. So, back to the topic at hand.

Others also had similar descriptions and drawbacks that I didn't want to deal with, or were outright boring; they couldn't even pique my interest through their descriptions. Also, their prices were much lower than the two pieces of equipment I was interested in. The highest-priced one cost around 5,000 contribution points to purchase.

Their price might feel lower as I was comparing it with the most powerful equipment present in the guild. But, they were absurdly priced compared to the 'Aura equipment' I had on me that just cost me 500 contribution points which was already able to slice the tier-3 monsters with ease.

" Why were these equipments costly, you say?"

The added effects they had, unlike my longsword that could only strengthen itself with the aura. These could be termed as the equipment with permanent buffs cast over them which would let their users with varied effects as per the equipment. Just take the 'Armor of Fallen' for example; It increased the defense to a level that even a peak-ranked 'Elite' couldn't do anything to the user while also decreasing their agility by 50%. It had a deadly drawback but the defense it gave was noteworthy.

They had effects similar to the runic equipment I was able to create for my own use. The runes I created were far superior to these buffs in terms of their variations and my ability to inscribe any rune I wanted as needed.

If you bought the 'Armor of the Fallen,' you were stuck with a powerful armor at the rank of elites, but you could outgrow the armor, rendering it essentially useless. This would require you to pay an absurd amount for new, stronger armor. However, my runes gave me an edge because I could make any equipment overpowered as long as I inscribed the rune on it.

So, I wasn't going to bother looking at these equipment that didn't pique my interest and weren't even expensive to my liking.

As for the "Dracoic Claw of Oblivion", It was purely a cash grab equipment for me. It didn't have any buff, nor did it have any drawbacks. The only thing going for this equipment was, the scammy description and absurd price for having dragon added to its name and description.

"What equipment did I choose then?"

It wasn't even a question worth asking. Of course, I went with the " Draconic Gloves of Oblivion" for it was the most expensive equipment in the whole catalog.

" It didn't have anything to do with a potential selling price of the Equipment." Nah… I just liked the feel of this freaking bad boy that had legendary origin if we took the description seriously.

As for the scam that I had been vocal about, let's throw them outside the window, Shall we? I was only interested in the material used to prepare it. This must have been the reason for it to be the best and costliest equipment in the catalog.

I wasn't going to believe in the presence of the 'Soul' of a true dragon in it, but the material might have been taken from some monsters that could potentially have some relation to the true dragons mentioned in the description.

Even the body part of a wyvern could make this piece as powerful and costly as it was marked. I was only hoping for this gamble to pay off, as I really had no idea how something as seemingly normal as this equipment could be the costliest of the bunch.

Does the equipment belong the to true Dragon??

Haha… This is the 50th chapter So I thought of going with a bang.

Hope you liked it.(╹◡╹)
