Forced Marriage

Entering the study room, Loraine saw her father walking over to a cupboard. Opening it up, he took out two glasses and a bottle of wine. Pouring in the wine, he turned around and signed Loraine to take a seat. Walking over to her, he handed over one of the glasses of wine to her and sat across her.

Looking into the wine, Loraine was powerless to speak. Even though her heart is filled with anger, she was not able to voice this. Understanding the difficulty Loraine was in, her father started, "Now that you are here, we can speak." Taking a sip of his wine he continued, "I know that you are frustrated by the situation, and I am sorry for this. But know that I have no other possibility but to do this."

Looking in her father's eyes, Loraine could feel her eyes getting watery. Opening up her mouth, Loraine responded, "What about James? What about my betrothal to him? Will you say that The Bloom Family cannot keep their promises?"

Hearing this, his face darkened, "I know and I am sorry about this. But you have to forget about James. I understand that you love him and yes he is a good and promising son in law, yet…" not being able to finish his sentence, Loraine cut him off.

With teary eyes Loraine asked, "So why are you against this? You even say that he is a promising son in law! So what is your reason for this?"

Looking at her, his face changed. There was a clear and angry look on it, "It is all because of your damned second brother!" With that, he slammed his fist on the table as he roared out in anger. "Your damned brother decided to impregnate the second daughter of the Herewealth family! And now they demand that we pay up! They ask for you in return!"

With a shocked face, Loraine froze in position. With a crash, the glass that Loraine was holding up fell from her hand. As it hit the ground, the glass shattered all over the floor. The wine spilled on both the floor as well as the clothing Loraine was wearing.

Coming back to her sense Loraine could not help herself from breaking into crying. Sniffing she asked, "Why? Why does this happen to me?!"

Not being able to do anything, Loraine's father looked helplessly to his daughter. He understands the situation she was in. Seeing Loraine in his state, the anger in his heart grew towards his second son. If he was standing here at the moment, he might have killed him at the spot.

Realizing that her brother was the cause of this, Loraine felt hatred towards her second brother. He was the reason that she would not be reunited with her loved one. Because of him, she had to suffer. Looking back at her father with eyes filled with anger, she managed to speak some words. Lashing out to her father, she asked angrily, "Where is he?! Where is that idiot?!"

Seeing the anger in Loraine's watery eyes, he pointed towards the garden. As Loraine was about to stand, he grabbed her arm. Having difficulty with speaking at this point Loraine's father spoke, "Wait let me finish. The Herewealth family… they want you… they want you to marry… marry the disgrace named Edgar."

Hearing these words, Loraine lost all the anger in her. As she was about to take a step, she lost all the power in her body and collapsed on the ground.

Seeing this, Loraine's father rushed to her side calling out to her, "Loraine! Loraine, wake up!" Not getting any response, he turned to the face and shouted, "Jenny! Jenny, get the carriage ready! Something happened to Loraine.
