RISE OF THE FRAGMENTS

…“Why haven’t you made any progress,” a gruff voice came from under a tall figure in a cloak. “We are trying, but the place is more secured than we thought,” a young, slim man stated, the unmasked fear written all over his face said more than his panicked voice. “AAAHHH!!,” a heart wrenching scream tore out from his mouth before his hands raised reflexively to pull out the dagger in his chest, but he was too late. He fell down, twitching vigorously as black fumes came out of his mouth, his screams slowly dimming down. The fumes gathered together to form a dark skull floating over his still convulsing body. A hand reached out from within the cloak, and clasped the skull. With a resounding snap, it was crushed into dust which slowly dissipated. The body stopped moving instantly, and the skin started to decay at a speed visible to the eye. In no time, all that remained was a skeleton with dark smoke coming out of it, and only a little amount of skin attached to it. A small puddle of blood was formed beneath the body, and the stench pervaded the dimly lit room. The man in the cloak raised his head to look at the few men gathered in the room. They looked like men of war, hardened by countless battles. One of them stepped forward. He had a large sword across his back, and his eyes were expressionless looking at the man in the cloak. “We are still in progress, but now we have some leads, and that might help us get it faster. It might be with the family we killed. Some clues point that the girl’s still alive, and that might be good depending on where she is, and the people she knows. She can’t be strong at such an age, and will have to depend on those around her.” The man in the cloak stayed still, for some time before turning around “don’t disappoint me,” he said and walked out, leaving the door open. Right after the man left, the man with the broadsword smiled mischievously. “His body started to transform, taking the form of an attractive, young male. “Send a message to our friends. Tell them the gears are shifting in our favor,” he said. His green eyes flashed dangerously.

SHOPPING 2

Ara couldn't exactly remember how she managed to extricate herself from the scene Lia was about to create, but she was glad that she'd got them in a carriage and were away from all those eyes that looked at her like she were an evil witch but now, the question was where were they going?

"So where are we going now?" Mozrael asked Lia

"The usual," Lia responded curtly.

Mozrael Looked at her slightly confused. " Umm...there's no such thing as a usual place we go shopping or whatever you have in mind, Lia"

"That's right. We're going everywhere," Lia stated gladly but Ara was not going to accept that.

"There's no way I'm going with you everywhere. If you want to spend the whole day doing useless things around here, well I'll have to go back home, okay?" When is this torture going to end?

Lia simpered, and voiced out no threats, but Ara knew there and then that she was no more than a complaisant, only to go without saying anything. She just stared outside, refusing to meet Lia's gaze to make her feel smugger. She was only thinking of when and where they were going to stop, but then she noticed a face amongst the many people out that drew her attention. It was a man whose face had lost color and had a scar across his left cheek. He also looked right into her eyes and that made her shudder slightly.

"Stop!!" Lia shouted suddenly and the coachman pulled his reigns so hard the horses forced a stop on their hind legs, the force throwing Ara off balance to the floor of the carriage. Luckily it was a roofed one, for she was sure to have been thrown out onto the floor somewhere away from the carriage.

"What's the matter with you?!!" Ara shouted after getting up only to find the person she was addressing wasn't even in the carriage. It was only Mozrael that sat looking at her which annoyed Ara more.

"Are you okay?" Mozrael asked, worried she saw Ara looking outside as they moved on and wondered what it was that took her attention as such. It probably worried her, she thought.

"No, of course not. Wait till I kill that brat," She stormed out of the carriage with Mozrael in tow but when She got out all she could do was glare at Lia, unable to find it in herself to kill Lia. They stood before a High-end clothes shop which had caught Lia's attention.

"This will be our first place to visit for the day, make sure you find something good," and with that, she was already on her way into the shop to 'find something good' without even waiting for her sisters. Ara rolled her eyes, and she went with Mozrael into the shop.

It had clothes of great material and should have stuff good enough to catch the eye of a girl like Lia, but Ara wondered if she was going to buy clothes or...

once inside, they spotted Lia talking with one of the workers of the shop who was making a fuss about how good a certain dress was for Lia.

"Big sister!" Lis shouted for Ara, waving an arm to call her over. Ara walked slowly to Lia

"What do you think of this dress? It's so nice, I love it. Look how the color is so white and the texture...I could cut-"

"Lia! I think there would be some more like this we could check out if we explore more don't you think?"

"Mmm...fine. But if we don't get anything as good as that, we're coming back for this."

"Yes, yes we'll come back for it, now let's go," She dragged Lia and Mozrael along away deeper into the shop. Ara gave a long sigh If and only if the worker knew why Lia had expressed so much interest in the dress, she'd be wishing to kill Lia right away. No one in the family had been able to understand Lia's strange behaviors and one such is her buying white dresses and cutting them up and sowing them into other 'things'. The moment she heard her talking about the color and texture, she knew where it was going. If she allowed it, Lia would continue to talk about how she would cut it up, and the people in the shop would only get depressed. Last time she said that right after she'd bought lots of items and they were in the carriage about to be sent off to her asylum. The shop owner almost fainted, and Ara promised she wouldn't let that happen again; it could kill someone. If Lia knew how hard people worked to make those clothes and all she'd do is cut them up.

Once again, Lia was in her world, forgetting she came to the shop with two people. She was too busy checking out the stuff she was buying; now she'd moved to accessories. Ara ignored her and was walking about somewhere when she noticed two people standing where she was headed. She looked closer and realized it was Isir and Iris and it didn't seem like a coincidence; they'd been followed. Iris looked at her, but then looked around at Ara, and it was obvious she wanted Lia. Isir, on the other hand, was looking at Ara's side, ad when Ara checked she saw Mozrael whom she hadn't noticed was following her the whole time. Ara watched as Iris frowned and walked past them, but Ara had no intention of following her. If she wanted to go find Lia, she should go find Lia and they can argue all they want.

Isir didn't care that his sister was walking off to go start a 'war' with Lia. In truth, he was relieved that she wasn't near anymore since Mozrael had shown up. Maybe he did have a chance. Ara and Mozrael just went on exploring the items, going in the direction where Iris was headed. He slowly approached them, pretending to be interested in a necklace they were now looking at. It was a kite-shaped blue gem with a gold chain. He stood beside the two, then after gathering his thoughts, looked straight at Mozrael and stretched out his hand in greeting.

"Hello, I'm Isir Elwick, twin sister to Iris Elwick. I believe we met earlier at the auction house and would like to apologize on her behalf. She can be quite...reckless so I'm sorry she came your way to say unpleasant things to you." He said so politely but Mozrael didn't look at him nor take his hand in greeting. She just nodded and that was it. Isir's arm stayed in the air for a while but finally, he dropped it. That made him embarrassed, but that wasn't enough to make him give up.

He cleared his throat, "Well, may I know your name, miss?"

"..."

"I heard your sister mention the name Lia but I think that's the little one's name right?"

"..."

"or it's your name instead?"

"..."

If he wanted to talk to someone, Mozrael? Ara watched on as the sad boy continued to ask Mozrael question after question without receiving an answer for any. This went on for a while till Ara couldn't stand it any more.

"Isir, right?" She moved to stand behind the two to take his attention from Mozrael.

"Oh yes, and you're?"

"Ara and this is my sister, Mozrael. The other one you saw with us at the auction house is Lia."

"Oh, but she...Mozrael"

"That's just how she is. She won't mind you much," Ara explained to him.

"I just...I wanted to be friends that's all, but she won't even look at me. I don't think she can notice me."

Ara smiled and then chuckled. Friends? This kid's so predictable. "Friends? You like my sister, don't you?"

"What? no-yes, like I just want to be friends that's my only reason for approaching,"

"mhm I know, but she doesn't like to interact with any boys so...eh?" Ara looked at Mozrael who'd turned to her.

"What, Did I say something wrong? You don't like boys. I don't know any boys you interact wi- oh no. I'm getting used to this," Ara slapped her forehead in sudden realization, startling the two.

"Are you alright, miss Ara?" Isir asked

Ara smiled and Isir was charmed he smiled back but then Ara frowned immediately. "What's with that? Look at me like I'm some girl and I'll be sure to make you regret it. Where's Lia? I'm going to kill her!" She started walking off then turned and came back. She held Mozrael's hand and after asking politely pulled him off to go find Lia. Isir looked at the sisters and couldn't help but notice Mozrael's face getting some color when Ara held her hand. He studied Ara and didn't know what exactly but he knew there was something off about that girl. Who was she? And what was with that look on Mozrael's face when Ara said she doesn't like boys? Maybe she likes someone else? He shook his head. What am I thinking?
