The Black Cat, Part Nine

{Julia} 

As they made their way back to the safety of the station, all Julia could think about was the second, hopefully final, round of betrayal.

Her mind replayed the harrowing encounter with Jen, the shock of the moment still fresh in her mind.

Julia and Jen moved through the winding path in the cavern. 

"Keep an eye out," Julia had begun to say. "We don't know if-" 

Suddenly, a knife slipped into her back. 

Every day, Julia thanked her lucky stars she'd chosen to be a Paladin. If she'd picked any other class, today, that move may have been the end of her. 

Reacting on instinct, knife still in her back, she spun and slammed her hammer into Jen's side.

The girl probably expected some response, but not something as quick as what Julia had done.

Jen crashed into the side of the cave and fell to the ground.
