Rise from the dead as Diablo's Crusader

The topic of what happens after death is a commonly discussed topic by many. Religious men would speak of the afterlife ruled by God, Atheists would say that there was nothing. But no one could deny that death was real. In the end of my life, I found out what happens after death. With the help of a God, I had to decide. Whether to carry out their will in another will with newfound powers, or to sink into oblivion and return as another life. I chose the latter. My name is Slade Dara Bridge, and this is my story as I rise from the dead as a game character in my old time favorite game. Diablo 3. +++ This was a commentors idea so I'm not exactly well versed on the topic so feel free to point out a few flaws that I might've missed.

"I can get these abilities from the game in real life?"

Slade looked at the god/ child in front of him in slight confusion.

"It's just like I said, I can grant you the abilities from the game in reality, the only cost is living in the world of the game that you chose and completing it."

"What happens when I complete it?"

"Well..." The God in front of Slade smiled with a strange look in their eye. "Let's talk about that when you actually complete it"

Fun glanced at Slade "Which I have no doubt you have the capabilities to do so considering your past"

'So he Knows'

"Of course I do"

Not even feeling surprised anymore, Slade glanced around at the other people who were now doing a variety of things with the God of Fun's doppelgangers.

"So what determines which game I get to get the powers from?"

"Well many factors come into play such as the time period, Technology, personal preference and history but you don't need to know that, in fact..."

A thick set of cards with an orange background and vine like borders appeared in the boy's hands as he gave a toothy grin.

"Pick a card, any card and that will decide the game you will gain your powers from"

Slade stared dumbfoundedly at the set of cards that were in the God of Funs hands before glancing at the rest of the shadowy figures around him.

Seeing that some of the others around him were doing a variety of other activities such as using a spinning wheel, lottery machines, hundred sided dice and balloon popping?

It seemed that the way to get their respective games was different for everyone and it was just something strange when someone got balloon popping.

"Correct" Without any impatience on his face the God of fun smiled "In fact, you can be considered rather old fashioned since you're probably the oldest among these guys"

'What does that have to do with cards' Having that thought ring inside of his head, Slade nevertheless stared at the hand of cards.

They were numerous, every time he looked to the side, more cards seemed to appear, but when looking back at the hand, Slade instinctively knew that the hand of cards had changed.

And every time they did so, the orange backed cards only had their core features, the large sigil in the middle and the borders themselves change slightly.

The core either growing, shrinking, gaining a few lines or losing some and the borders shifting, gaining more vines, gaining thorns or something else.

Sneakily glancing at the God of Fun's eyes, Fun smiled "Trying to cheat? Sorry but this isn't possible"

Seeing that the reflection of the iris at first glance was nothing but the same card just seen from a different perspective, Slade sighed before grabbing the card.

"No hesitation huh? I like it!"

Holding the card in his hands, Slade felt the strange dissonance with reality as even though he could feel that the card was in his hand, there was no sensations to it.

Incredibly jarring in fact, Feeling the strange sensation of something both being there and not, the cards in the God of funs hands disappeared and the one that he had chosen revealed itself.

The orange back that was on both sides of the card slowly burnt away to its borders, leaving embers to float in the air and revealing the image behind it.

Seeing the image, Slade couldn't help but widen his eyes as a surge of nostalgia suddenly hit him like a truck.

The face of a stone-grey demon with fiery eyes stared from the surface of the card, alongside it were three claw marks running down its forehead and the flaming letters in front of it said.

Diablo.

Seeing that one word which meant demon in Spanish nostalgia hit him.

Born at the end of the 20th century in 1980, video games were starting to pick up speed as they proliferated throughout the world.

As a young child however, Slade could care less as he grew up.

That was until the first game appeared in 1997.

By then he was nearing adulthood at the age of 17 and he got interested in the game by word of mouth.

And to this day, he did not regret a single bit of it.

At that point he became involved in a majority of video games as his interest was now piqued, playing a majority of the other famous games at the time.

Like Fallout, Resident Evil, Pokemon, Mortal kombat, Legend of Zelda: ocarina of time, Super Mario world and Final fantasy.

You could say he tried several games in his adulthood.

Of course, that video game spree had to stop as he was enlisted into the army to complete his standard army training.

And the rest of the time he could only use his sparse free time to play video games whenever he wanted.

That led to him joining the special forces, retiring, finding video games, getting reached out to by his old friends, meeting with them, getting drunk with them.

Getting reached out to by his old superiors, catching wind of terrorist actions.

Dying by accident.

And although Diablo III was slightly worse then Diablo II in terms of atmosphere and such, the Diablo series had a special place in his heart as the first game series to have started him on his adventure for video games.

So due to his attachment to the series, Slade recalled the update that revived the declining Diablo III series Reaper of souls.

Smiling like a kid that had gotten the present he wanted on Christmas day I looked at the game card.

"So... I just gain some powers from this game?"

"Well yeah"

Staring at the card with the appearance of the game on it, the rational part of his brain suddenly took over.

"Wait, this is to good to be true."

Staring daggers of suspicion at the floating boy Slade continued his line of thought.

"I don't think you are kind enough to just hand me... well us" he waved his arms at the surrounding people "Powers from a variety of games without a price"

"Because I'm particularly sure that some of them would gain world destroying capabilities"

The God of fun stared at Slade, a variety of unknown emotions briefly flashed through his eyes.

"Heh, why can't it just be for fun? My title of the God of Entertainment isn't just for show you know?""

Rubbing his head a smile reached his multicolored eyes "But what made you think like this anyway?"

"Everything has a price, even if there is none that can be currently seen" Recalling how a few governmental figures gave him a few favors in return for getting rid of some men, Slade shook his head.

"A good mindset, but let me make it known that I am just doing it for fun, so do you want your powers or not?"

"Well I'm not declining it but I would like to know ahead of time what you would like me to do?"

"Hmmm..." A contemplative look rose on his face before a small smile rose "You know what? I think you can actually do something"

Hearing those words, Slade eyebrows rose.

"So what is it?"

"Well nothing hard, just become my apostle, spread knowledge of me while solving a few small problems"

He snapped his fingers and created a window to another dimension show casing a ruined world where everything was set aflame in blazing fire.

"Complete Diablo 3 and save the world from the oncoming crisis, and don't worry" A smile rose on his young face.

"You will not regret your decision in the slightest."
