Chapter 11

Xyris P.O.V.

"Why do you think they are after you?" Napalingon ako kay Annalise. The two warriors that's following us from behind remained their silence.

"I don't know to be honest." Napabuntonghininga na lang ako. "All I know is that it started after that day." Mahinang dugtong ko. Remembering that fateful day when I committed the sin that will surely haunt me to my death. Is it possible that the faceless rogue that's pursuing me is the same person that I saved from the brink of death before?

"After what exactly?" Napangiti ako sa tanong nito. It seems that she is really interested to know the whole story behind that cryptic message.

"Why the sudden interest about me?" Balik tanong ko imbes na sagutin ang tanong nito. "Did your Alpha mindlink you to interrogate me?"

Annalise just smile at my question.

"No he didn't but I am curious. Our existence is quite hidden from humans but it seems that you knew a lot of things about us. Tell me Xyris, how did you knew about us?"

For a moment, I can feel a slight hesitation to tell her the truth. However upon thinking thoroughly, telling her the truth won't really bring any harm to me so why not?

I take a deep breath and look back to the nightmare that happened more than five years ago.

"Five years ago I got involve in a tragic car accident. During those time, I am not aware yet that the one who's after me is a rogue, a werewolf. I know that the car accident is not enough to kill me but the shock and pain will surely render me unconscious. The person who wanted to capture me was desperate. At first, I thought he will be able to get me. Luckily, while I am on the run from my burning car and from the person that's chasing me, Alpha Raven showed up."

"Raven? The Alpha of Bloodpaws pack?" Naninigurong tanong nito.

Nakangiting tumango ako bilang sagot. "I'm just lucky that the accident happened on Raven's territory. They scented a rogue around the territory and heard a car crash. They rushed to see what happened and found me almost unconscious. He said that it is a miracle that I still manage to get out from the burning car, not to mention run away from the one that's pursuing me despite my condition. The next morning, Raven refuse to let me go without me giving the information of what happened that night." I'm really thankful to Raven, though I am a total stranger. He did not hesitate to help me.

"Though I am a bit hesitant, Raven helped me escape from that crazy man so I decided to confide to him. I told him everything including the letters and threats I receive." I smile upon remembering the day when Raven told me that I am in a pack of werewolves. To say that I am shock is an understatement. I never thought that there is really such creatures walking with us. I am a dryad though, that means there is really a possibility that there are other mystical creatures existing around us.

"Did you ever find out who is the rogue that's after you?"

Umiling ako. "Raven gave his best to help me but we failed to identify who is it. My pursuer became inactive since Raven always have his warriors follows me, however the cryptic messages did not stop. Sometimes it was sent to me through text and some other times through my email. This is the first time in 5 years that he became suddenly so aggressive and I can't help but wonder why." Kunot noong napaisip ako. Now that Annalise is asking me about it. Was it because I found my mate? How did he know that I am mated to Kaige?

"Yeah and how did they know you are mated to Kaige?" Takang wika ni Annalise. Voicing out my thoughts. "I mean, I'm sure you are already informed by Raven on how we handle mate bonds in our pack. How did they know that you are mated to Kaige without a confirmation from Kaige himself?"

It seems that instead of getting answers, I'll end up flooded with more and more questions.

Napabuntonghinga na lang ako. "I hope I can answer that, I just realize that I am mated to Kaige recently. I never mentioned to anyone that I am mated to him so I don't know how are they able to grasp that information." Napahinto sa paghakbang si Annalise sa sinabi ko.

Litong napahinto rin ako napatingin dito. I look at her with questioning eyes. "Problem?" Takang tanong ko rito.

Annalise eyes turns to look at me. Giving me that kind of look as if she is trying to read my soul. For a second, I can't help but feel anxious to the kind of look she was giving to me.

"Nothing, I'm just thinking about something." Sagot nito pagkaraan saka muling humakbang patungo sa direksyon ng pack house.

Kunot noong sinundan ko ito ng tingin. Annalise is the betrothed of Kaige, it is so weird that I am confident with sharing her those information. As a dryad though, my instinct is everything I rely on. As part of nature, it is easy for me to identify if someone has a wicked heart. It is true that I am irritated by her presence the first time we met but that is because she is Kaige's fiancée. Though I never formally accepted Kaige as my mate, the connection between is strong enough for me to feel negative emotions towards any woman that will go near him.

Kaige's P.O.V.

My eyes turns to the phone on my table the moment I heard the person from the other line speak up. "Kaige, it's been a long time since you called me, what a surprise!" Wika ng nasa kabilang linya.

I snickered. "I have receive your message to enter my territory tomorrow morning and I am curious what could be your reason for it." Diretsong tanong ko rito.

Saglit itong natahimik sa kabilang linya. I can clearly feel his hesitation to anwer my question.

"I just need to fetch someone." Sagot nito kapagdaka.

Tumiim ang mata ko sa sinagot nito. I can't help but wonder how important exactly is Xyris to him or if he knew anything about her.

Kumuyom ang kamao ko sa pagkakaalala sa mga litrato nito na kasama si Xyris. My heart constrict in pain upon thinking how deep is his relationship with my mate.

"Upon fully checking my guest list, none of your pups are in my territory. Will you please tell me who is that 'someone' you are talking about?" I remain my cool despite of the raging anger that starts to build up inside of me. It is also not helping that my wolf keeps on pacing inside my head with the image of Raven and Xyris together.

The tension between us is clearly evident. We are both alphas, none of us will back down for it.

"What have you've done to Xyris?" Napangisi ako sa tanong nito. There's the answer that I am waiting from him.

"I have done nothing to your lover, yet." My hand tighten on the phone that I am holding. What exactly is his relationship with my mate! "A rogue tried to attack her a while ago and I am curious if you can fill me with the information I need."

"Fuck!" I heard him hissed at the other line. Ngali ngaling ibato ko ang telepono sa pader. 'fuck'? That's it? He won't even gonna deny to me that they are lovers? I'm gonna send an assasin to kill this bastard soon.

I tried my best to remain calm despite of my irritation. If he is in front of me right now, I'm going to skin him alive for touching my mate.

"Your lover's life is in my hand right now, can you atleast be kind enough to tell me what do you know about the human?" My eyes swipes it color from deep black to yellow. My pack and Raven's pack is not exactly allied but I know I can trust him.

After seeing Xyris sudden outburst a while ago, I am pretty sure that she's not a human. Though she smells like a normal human but she is not. Her sudden change of appearance shock everyone in the room but none of them dared to speak about it. What we have witnessed a while ago made me think that it might be the reason why the rogues are after her. It is also probably the reason why Raven is too close to her.
