Revenge of the Resilient Girl for the 70s

As the sound of thunder heralded the beginning of spring, Summer experienced an unexpected revelation: she was a devoted supporting character in a male protagonist-focused retro novel. Throughout her life, she had made countless sacrifices for the male lead. When he needed love, she handed over her life-changing opportunities to the female lead he adored. When he needed a stable family, she provided her assets and married him. When he needed a career boost, she sold her family’s courtyard house and small restaurant, investing all her wealth into his startup. Even when his career flourished, she stayed home, taking care of his parents and raising the illegitimate child the female lead sent over. Summer: "??? This is beyond absurd. Whoever wants to be this pitiful supporting character can be, but it won’t be me!" Why should she waste her wealth and talents on someone else’s dreams?

Chapter 67

Henry glared at Logan for a moment before speaking, his voice filled with anger, "You have no right to interfere with her!"

Logan responded with a cold smile, "Is that so?"

After a brief stare-down, Henry decided not to continue the verbal sparring. He scowled and said, "Let's go!"

He turned and walked away, and the others followed suit. Logan stood his ground, watching them leave. After a moment, he withdrew his gaze, smirking disdainfully.

Henry and his group of ten walked along the riverbank, leaving the community garden behind. A few of them couldn't help but glance back at the garden repeatedly.

Among them, the four girls—Lily, Sophia, Grace, and Cecilia—brought up the rear. Lily still wore an expression of shock, struggling to process what had just happened. After a few steps, she turned to Cecilia and asked, "Was that really Logan just now?"

Cecilia nodded, "Yes, that was Logan."

Lily, still in disbelief, continued, "If I didn't mishear, he was standing up for Summer, wasn't he?"

Cecilia nodded again, "It seems he was warning us to stay away from Summer's garden."

Lily couldn't comprehend it. She grabbed Grace's arm and whispered, "This is so strange. Has Logan lost his mind? Why would he stand up for Summer?"

Grace, equally perplexed, replied impatiently, "How would I know? I'm not Logan."

Logan's words had left her feeling equally baffled. Logan was known for being selfish and opportunistic, not someone who would stand up for others. He was the type who avoided trouble at all costs, especially when it came to women.

Summer had always been the one chasing after Logan, shamelessly trailing behind him. They had expected her to suffer a major setback because of him. Instead, not only had Summer avoided any major troubles, but Logan was now defending her?

It was unbelievable, akin to the sun rising in the west.

Cecilia pondered for a moment before suggesting, "Maybe he just wanted to provoke Henry?"

Lily dismissed this idea, "I don't think so. Logan would prefer to use underhanded tactics to create discord. By standing up for Summer, he's inserting himself directly into our conflict with her. What's in it for him? Summer would follow him around regardless."

Cecilia found Lily's reasoning convincing. She thought for a moment and then said, "Could it be that he's genuinely been moved by Summer and likes her?"

Grace immediately refuted, "Impossible. Logan is arrogant and self-centered. He never even looked at Sophia, who is much more refined. Why would he like Summer? When we first arrived in the countryside, he despised her the most. Summer is ordinary in every way. What could she possibly offer to attract Logan? Stubbornness?"

Cecilia found herself agreeing with everyone. She was utterly confused and asked again, "Then why would he do it?"

Nobody could think of a plausible reason. Grace turned to Sophia, "What do you think, Sophia?"

Sophia shook her head, "I don't know."

Although she hadn't spoken much, Sophia was the most troubled. She had always felt that Summer was scheming, using Logan to get under Henry's skin.

Despite Henry's indifference towards Summer, Sophia could tell that his mood was often affected by her. Henry was usually detached about other people and matters, even quickly moving on from someone as perfect as Rachel. But with Summer, he couldn't let go.

Summer's persistence with Logan seemed to irritate Henry, often causing him to reminisce about the past when Summer would follow him around calling him "Henry."

Everything had been fine, and then it suddenly changed.

Sometimes, Sophia felt that Summer might see Logan as a stand-in for Henry. Occasionally, she'd recall something Sophia had said: perhaps Summer liked Henry all along.

But every time she thought that, she'd dismiss it. To Henry, Summer was never more than a compliant little sister. They had grown up together, with no room for romantic feelings.

Love is an impulsive, passionate feeling. What Henry had with Summer was pure sibling affection, nothing more.

As they walked back to their community house, Henry led the way, his face stormy. He couldn't get Logan's smug face out of his mind, and thoughts of Summer filled the rest.

He couldn't understand the nature of Summer and Logan's relationship or why Logan was now defending her. It made him particularly uneasy.

Seeing Summer constantly trailing after Logan like a mindless follower annoyed Henry to no end. It often brought back memories of Summer following him, calling him "Henry."

Everything had been perfect until it all changed abruptly.

Sometimes, he'd even wonder if Summer was projecting her feelings for him onto Logan. Sophia's words about Summer possibly liking him sometimes echoed in his mind.

But Henry would always dismiss it. Summer was like a sister to him, nothing more. They had grown up together, shared every childhood moment, and could never have romantic feelings for each other.

By the time they reached their community house, Henry was still brooding. He went straight to the kitchen and sat down. The others followed, each finding a place at the table. The room fell silent.

Jack broke the silence, "So, any thoughts? If Logan and Summer can grow things, so can we, right?"

Everyone nodded. While they weren't averse to hard work, they hadn't seriously considered growing their food before. Stealing was never a real plan—they were just desperate at times.

Henry's proposal, "How about this: the guys will take care of the garden after work, and the girls can handle the cooking. Sound good?"

Grace perked up immediately, "Henry, you're the real man here!"

Lily chimed in, "Some people try to show off, but they're nothing compared to you. You're the real deal!"

Henry appreciated the compliments. The other guys didn't say much, but they agreed.

Mike spoke up, "We guys can handle the garden, but we should all chip in for seeds and supplies."

Grace rolled her eyes, "You're so petty, Mike. Of course, we'll all contribute."

Relieved, Mike responded, "Fine, I'm petty."

Grace insisted, "You are petty!"

Mike, annoyed, shot her a look and stayed quiet.

When it came to money, everyone chipped in. They all dug deep and managed to gather a dollar, which they handed to Henry for the seeds.
