The God of Death
Bai Yun watched the long staircase for a while before he started climbing. He passed right by the statues and climbed higher and higher. It was easier for him to climb the steps compared to before. He passed right by the gods, some he knew, some he didn't, and climbed higher and higher.
Finally, Bai Yun stopped right before an empty step. This was the step that was designated for him. But for some reason, there was no statue there. Even though Bai Yun clearly remembered leaving one here.
Bai Yun took a few more steps and stopped before his mother's statue. He stood there for a while, staring at her statue. But after a moment passed and continued to climb. A second later he passed through the gates at the top of the steps.
When his vision returned, he was in a large garden. All around him were towering trees, each one corresponding to a different titled god. This was the garden of gods, where the titled gods left their dao legacies.
