Surgery was a success

Chen Mumu sneezed. It was cold so it was normal.

The surgery ended at half past midnight. She had not slept a wink. Xu Jingli also stayed by her side all this while. He had given her his jacket so he was slightly feeling the effects of the biting cold. He sneezed which made Chen Mumu turn around and face him, "I could give you the jacket back. You seem colder than I am."

Xu Jingli shook his head, "I a man and…a…a…achooo!"

He sneezed a second time. Chen Mumu felt pain in her heart just staring at him like this. His face was already very red from the cold and the heat he was generating by rubbing his hands was still not enough.

Xu Jingli's sneezing did not stop there. Chen Mumu was tired of blessing him so she just scooted closer and offered half of the jacket to him, "You said we are dating just for today and I cannot bear to watch you die of a cold. I will be the bigger person and share this with you!"

The jacket was Xu JingIi's yet Chen Mumu was acting like she was doing some chivalrous deed. Xu Jingli almost venerated her!

He just sighed and then gave a small smile. This woman was showing layers he did not know existed before. She was so fresh that it was entertaining!

In his life, he had only gotten in contact with the socialites who were all trying so hard to get his attention that it became boring. Every event he went to was like a dogfight for those ladies. They also had rigid manners which left a bad taste in his mouth but Chen Mumu was so different. He felt very calm with her close even when they had only known each other for a few hours.

Chen Mumu scooted closer and her elbow brushed Xu Jingli's arm. The point of contact immediately became very warm. Xu Jingli wanted to move away as he felt that this was intimate and would make Chen Mumu feel terrified but Chen Mumu suddenly said, "Don't you dare move! You are too important and if you die here because of a cold, I don't think I will be able to compensate your family!"

Xu Jingli chuckled but he said nothing. Chen Mumu was quiet after that as well.

As time went by, Chen Mumu began falling asleep and her head fell on Xu Jingli's shoulders. He looked towards her and shifted his body so that her neck would not twist which would make her be in pain when she woke up.

He took the jacket from their bodies and flattened it like a blanket before he covered them once more, this time managing to cover them perfectly. He leaned into the warmth and very soon, he was fast asleep too!

Lu Fang was getting his test results when he walked all over the hospital to look for Xu Jingli. He was a very handsome fellow so the nurses were trying to get his attention but he was focused.

He looked for his boss with the help of the nurse who had handled everything related to Chen Mumu's mother's surgery and when he found the man, he stopped dead in his tracks!

He could not believe that Xu Jingli was actually sleeping! 

He could not tell the last time he had seen the man sleep so willingly without the need for sleeping pills. Xu Jingli had experienced some trauma as a child and it had affected his sleep so badly that he would sometimes only get sleep for an hour or even less.

Seeing him so peaceful like this almost made Lu Fang tear up!

He dramatically wiped off the nonexistent tears and walked away slowly without making any noise. The nurse who had come with him also walked away after being left in that awkward situation!

Feng Du An and the rest of the surgical team was already done with the surgery so they walked out slowly. Before Feng Du An could cross the doors to tell Chen Mumu that her mother's surgery was a success, he was greeted with the sight of her sleeping against the man who had just greeted them outside. They seemed so cozy that he felt like he was interrupting them.

Something broke inside his heart that he could not explain.

Seeing these two like this, did it mean that…

He tried to bring himself to think otherwise but the nagging feeling inside his heart did not go away. The nurse next to him suddenly spoke, "Doctor, you have to tell them how the surgery went."

Feng Du An was brought back to reality. He sighed and walked over and shook Chen Mumu by the shoulders, "Xiao Mu…"

Chen Mumu woke up groggily, "Doctor Feng."

Xu Jingli also woke up, "Doctor, how did the surgery go?"

He was even more anxious that Chen Mumu. He had felt how scared she was and the last thing he wanted to see right now was her disappointed face in case the surgery did not go well.

Feng Du An ignored him and turned to Chen Mumu, "Xiao Mu, your mother's surgery was a success. We will need to monitor her for a few hours before she will be transferred to a normal ward."

His voice showed his excitement. Chen Mumu excitedly jumped, "Really? She will no longer feel any pain anymore?"

Feng Du An held Chen Mumu's hands and nodded, "Yes. You can stop worrying now."

Droplets of tears fell from Chen Mumu's eyes as she thanked him, "Thank you so much, Doctor Feng. I am truly thankful for everything you have done!"

Seeing their clasped hands, Xu Jingli felt as if his heart was getting stuffy. He did not like the way Feng Du An addressed Chen Mumu so intimately either. He stood up, ready to say something but his phone suddenly rang. He took it and his face immediately changed. He excused himself and walked away.

Chen Mumu's eyes worriedly followed him. She wanted to follow him but Feng Du An was still holding onto her hands as he excitedly asked, "Do you want to see her now?"

When she heard that, Chen Mumu turned around, "Yes, yes of course."
