Lola could feel the adrenaline surging through her system as Ezra's deep and loud voice reverberated in her ears. Her heart was slamming widely against her chest as her maternal and survival instincts kicked in.
She quickly lowered herself, supporting her weight with her two hands resting on the concrete floor as Ezra leaned in her direction, taking a second bullet.
"You animal!" Zeff roared, charging forward.
For a second, Lola thought her ears would explode due to the ear-deafening shrieks of horror coming from the terrified prisoners locked behind a heavy metal door. It felt as though she was trapped at the foot of a crumbling hill. Her breathing was becoming difficult.
She tried to crawl on her hands and knees when the swoosh sound of something cutting through the air prompted her to look up.
