Chapter 271

Vorbuk didn't want to wake up.

He struggled to remain in the dream with the god There were still many questions that he wanted to ask him. It was impossible to tell when his next chance would arise like this one had.

The feint sound of Prince Leo's voice could be heard among the wind, calling out to him from beyond the dream realm his mind was in, "Vorbuk-!"

"I wont be forced back so easily," Vorbuk growled as his ears pinned tight against the back of his head, "I still have so much I want to ask you!"

"Invalid." The god responded. "You can not remain in the dream realm. Your body is already waking."

Vorbuk urged him, "Then answer my questions, quickly."

The god seemed to sigh at his persistence, "What do you want to know?"

"Why me?" Vorbuk asked bluntly.

"Invalid." The god shook his head.

"What?" Vorbuk felt annoyed.

"There is no real reason why you were chosen," The god paused momentarily to glance over the wolf, "Rather I took an interest in your soul."

"My soul?" He mumbled to himself as he listened to the god.

"You have the soul of a creator. You are an artist, a musician, and you have seen both the bright side of this world and the darkness it has to offer that most would turn away from. I have longed for a soul that could accept the darkness without giving in to it."

"Who are you..." Vorbuk mumbled.

"What?" The god was confused.

"Who are you to judge what is right or wrong for others?" Vorbuk felt himself getting angry but he could not control himself from shouting out at the god.

"I am a god." The god responded bluntly. "I thought you understood that?"

"There are many gods in this world," Vorbuk grit his fangs, "does that mean that all of you can act like this?"

"Invalid. They are nothing like me." The god answered honestly.

"What do you mean by-?" Vorbuk did not understand why the god was so sure of himself.

"I am the original. The first." The god answered him honestly, "There are no others like me in the heavenly realm. However everything in life has restrictions; including myself."

"Like how you gods are against light mages? There are mortals who hide in fear because they are shunned for being born with the light element. Few places accept them. How backwards can you gods be towards those on the continent?" Vorbuk felt all his pent up anger coming out at once.

"Invalid. I have never had a problem with the light mages." The god tried to explain, "Everything in life has consequences to it and life and death is one of them. The light mages naturally became something at risk of breaking the laws of nature. If someone is meant to die what do you think the consequences could be if that rule is broken?"

"No."

"Hm?"

"I do not care if you are a god or not," The wolf growled at the god, "I will not live my life simply as you want me to."

"Chynir needs to be stopped-" The god was cut off from talking.

"I never said I refused to stop him," Vorbuk had his own reasons to take care of Chynir, "He can not be allowed to continue rampaging the continent."

"Then?" The god simply asked.

"After I stop that god and the continent is free of him," Vorbuk glared at the god with complicated emotions, "I will kill any god that threatens this continent, my friends, or myself. I will even kill you if I need to."

"... Only time can say what fate desires to happen."

The god did not get angry with Vorbuk because he knew more then the wolf did. At the same time he was tired. Living as long as he had took a toll on him.

"Vorbuk-!" Everything was hazy at first when the wolf opened his eyes. In front of him was the face of the crown prince, Leo. The prince looked startled by the sudden change in Vorbuk's appearance. However he was more worried about the fact that the wolf had a fever during the night.

I wasn't done asking him things... but he forced me to wake up. The wolf felt frustrated but knew there was no helping it. There was no way to meet with the god again until he showed himself.

"Vorbuk," Prince Leo called out to the wolf once more before placing the palm of his hand on the wolf's head to check if he was still burning up, "Are you really alright?"

"I'm fine!" The wolf growled and jumped out of the bed to avoid the prince's touch. "I just merged with the stone that Zoe had used to entrap the Undead King."

"The purified version?" The Prince was curious about the effects of that stone.

"I have some kind of connect to communicate with souls now," The wolf answered his question without the prince needing to ask because he could see the prince's thoughts all over his face. "I do not fully understand it myself yet."

"That stone held a purified version of the undead king's magic.. If it gave you the ability to communicate with souls.." Prince Leo could not imagine what other uses it could have engraved into the wolf's soul. There was the possibility of things neither of them could even imagine.

"You should be careful in the future. We do not know when that magic could activate until you have a better control over it." The prince felt worried about the wolf as he tried to caution him.

The wolf walked over to the window and pressed his paws on the window. Looking out at the kingdom before him. Counting the number of threats to his life was impossible. In the future that number would only grow further. He felt he had no time to worry over things that were out of his control. If something emerged in the future he would deal with it.

The prince felt the wolf ignoring his warning. Standing up he walked over the window and stood beside the wolf. Glancing out the window at the view the wolf saw he decided to give up for the time being. He was by the wolf's side and would help him deal with whatever came their way.

"It feels like the calm before the storm." Vorbuk said to himself as he watched the rising sun in the distance.

The bright sun rising over the mountains painted a beautiful picture in front of their eyes. Warm sunlight slowly sweeping across the mountains. Lighting up the streets of Theapan's capital city in front of the palace's bedroom window. On the streets people were already starting their days as if everything was peaceful.

Only Vorbuk, Prince Leo, and those around them knew the truth. That a bloody war was creeping up on them all. This was a matter that the innocent lives among the kingdom did not know about. It was the duty of those within the royal family to protect the kingdom.

And the first step towards a better and safer future for Vorbuk's Kingdom of Theapan was to to take care of the dwarves.
