LXXI: Holy Bitch.

Samantha was quite a beautiful woman, even dressed as a nun she let her voluptuous figure show, a blasphemy for the clothes she wore.

She enchanted her enemies with her black hair and made them succumb to her while she looked at them with her strange yellow eyes that seemed to resemble the worst of beasts.

This woman could be seen kneeling before the corpses of the enemies with her palms together and her eyes closed in prayer. Then people would see a warm glow, a pure white light emanating from the nun's body and falling on the corpse of her enemy, in this case, the elves.

Normally, this would be a beautiful, sacred, thought-provoking scene that would awaken the lost sensibilities of war veterans, but it was all hokum. This pure light became synonymous with absolute death, for all were sinners in the eyes of this woman, who was nicknamed "Holy Bitch".

Later, that nickname remained just that, a nickname, but she earned two titles, "The Maid of Light" and "The Holy Butcher.

Seone always said that Samantha scared him, and this woman was truly terrifying, her titles were earned not only by the pure light she was able to create and control but by what she did to the souls of the dead that were radiated by her power.

Imagine the horror of the first unsuspecting humans who saw Samantha grab what appeared to be the soul of a dead elf by the neck and then tear it apart with her hands, without any remorse or concern on her face, as if she had just killed a chicken.

The rumors spread quickly, and even the high commanders of the human expedition approached her with dismay, but Samantha showed them how powerful she could be by healing a recent wound of one of those knights who looked as if he could not recover in the normal way.

The sight of a young woman surpassing the best doctors in the army in her ability to heal caused another stir. Samantha was charged with restoring, if possible, those who had fought and suffered severe and disabling injuries.

She regenerated limbs, cleansed curses, and in some cases completely revived people who had lost all obvious signs of life. Her power of light was incredible, and she had no obvious offensive capabilities. But do you think that stopped her?

Taking advantage of the fact that she could heal, cleanse, and defend with her light, Samantha often joined the clashes between the two armies, providing on-the-spot support to the humans, healing them, or protecting them from spells.

She became a beacon for humanity in this increasingly cruel war. Not only that, she showed how dangerous she could be when she healed an elf, then didn't stop her light and the poor guy started to develop huge tumors that burst his body like a balloon.

The healing light had now turned into a poisonous light, perhaps because she remembered how she died in her original world, sharing a similar hatred as Seone felt, only she was much more direct and developed such a technique.

Speaking of our protagonist, she and Seone sometimes teamed up to wreak more havoc behind enemy lines, regardless of the injuries sustained. It was a blessing to have a supporter who allowed you to push your limits without repercussions each time.

Seone felt that while she had not experienced a drastic increase in strength, her experience in single combat or with crowds had grown quite a bit.

The same support was given to the other members when they needed it, and as the weeks passed, everyone felt the benefits. Ironically, it was in this atmosphere of constant battle and war that something beautiful blossomed.

They say that love is one of the most powerful emotions in the world, maybe it can't magically change someone, but it can help someone to be better. Seone met Samantha in her past life and their relationship was not very good, to say the least, I mean no one would be so cordial with the person one of your ex-partners cheated on you with, but even he felt that Samantha was less.... annoying?

All because of love.

Susie had become quite close to Samantha, which contrasted with the nature of their current selves, one was a demon, and one was the light of goodness incarnate, though her interpretation of that light was very much her style, it didn't take away from the inherent holiness it added to her aura, and even the drive Samantha had managed to develop had a sacred feel to it.

At first, Samantha treated Susie as just another acquaintance, not valuable enough to deserve her attention beyond a quick healing, but at least she had her in mind. The 'sinful' nature of her demonic nature didn't bother her, Samantha had been a true demon in human skin in her former life.

But maybe it was because of the girl's beauty, her constant attention and even support during missions or battles that Samantha began to see this girl in a different light. Not at all as experienced as she was, in fact, to our dear saint, Susie was not as demonic as she could be.

Love is so irrational, it comes in places and times you would never expect. Samantha already knew that Susie seemed to be interested in her, so she wanted to play along on a whim.

The whim turned to interest, then to attachment, and by the time she realized she had fallen in love with an inexperienced novice who had been a nun in a past life, they were already kissing under a tree after a hard fight against a group of elven scouts they had been sent to eliminate.

That day, something began to change in her.

"You know I only got together with you because I thought you were an interesting project, right?" spoke Samantha, her nun's clothing, now much more suggestive than before, was immaculate, unlike the ground and trees around her.

All around her were severed, charred, and torn limbs, the work of her and Susie, who had blood on her clothes because of Samantha, which started this discussion.

"So what, that doesn't give you the right to be an idiot to me! You could have warned me, now I'm all smelly with elf blood," Susie was pissed, Samantha had been a complete jerk on her way here and during the fight, but this finally made her snap.

"Well, I don't care how you smell, I only care about one thing in this life, MYSELF" Even if Samantha was on a team and they had a good synergy, it didn't change the fact that she only cared about herself.

Yes, she couldn't act like a bitch most of the time, but she didn't know why, but she felt she couldn't control herself completely when she was around Susie, and she didn't like that, hence her retaliation.

"Oh believe me, I've noticed, demons smell scum, you know, but underneath all the garbage you are, there is something very beautiful that shines brightly, there's a reason you have a cheater like you, don't you think?" the words of Susie brought back some painful memories for Samantha, something that was always there, but she didn't like to think about it.

Her brow furrowed as she realized that Susie was right, but even knowing that didn't change her annoyance, she didn't appreciate them targeting the deepest part of her psyche. The only one who did was Monic, who was strong enough to keep her in check.

"What does it matter to you!!! I know who I am, I lived the way I wanted to, not the way you wanted me to! You're just now realizing what's in you, I've been living with it for decades, why should I feel good because of your nice words?" Samantha raised her voice, the light in her body seemed to react to her bad mood.

The plants around her began to overgrow under the influence of her power, something she didn't know she was capable of, but she didn't pay attention, she was too angry to notice those details, just as she didn't notice the hurt face Susie was showing.

"You know, I never listened to Seone when he told me you were a monster, but you made me realize how inexperienced I am at judging people, even though I'm a demon now" Susie didn't show any conflicting emotions in her face anymore, she just started walking through the forest towards the camp of the human army.

Samantha stopped, she didn't know why, but now something inside her hurt. She had done terrible things, had participated in vile things, had loved to tear people's lives apart, like Seone's ex, whom she didn't even remember, but had foreseen her end, surely there was only a hollow shell left of that poor girl before the sun turned evil.

Why did she feel this way? Samantha had never known the feeling we all feel when we experience guilt and remorse, but now she did, and she didn't know how to deal with these conflicting emotions.

Then she remembered how she used to make fun of the guys who apologized, how the men she stole their partners from would come back crying, forgiving the person who hurt them, looking for a solution to their relationship.

She saw women on their knees begging for forgiveness from the men they had cheated on, but she also saw the opposite, because she didn't really care if her partners were men or women, deep down, maybe no one was enough, just her.

But it seemed that during this bloody war, someone had carved a niche in her heart next to her image. She didn't know how, and maybe she never would. But that was the way love worked, even if it was one of those emotions she couldn't identify.

So she ran out, she didn't know why, but she wanted to catch up with Susie as soon as possible, and when she saw her, she felt her heart racing, threatening to come right out of her chest. Susie sensed her, so she turned around, and the look in her eyes made Samantha uncomfortable for some reason.

She had seen similar eyes before, but had never felt anything because of them, was this some kind of karma? Maybe that was what reincarnation was all about, doing what you couldn't do and suffering for the bad things you did in the past.

"I..." she didn't know what to say, Susie looked at her with pain, though she tried to keep up a serious facade, but she had seen more in her eyes, that look that used to bother her and now it was like a hand pulling her out of the chaotic whirlwind that was her emotions.

Why, was the light in her body strong enough to bring back those crippled emotions? Was her light healing her psyche? Perhaps it was, for she had never felt such a strong impulse as she did now.

She lunged at Susie, who didn't seem to see it coming, and then they brought their lips together in a kiss, a simple act that made them both feel not only a physical connection but an emotional one as well. Both bared their souls as the kiss continued and with Susie's back against a tree, a small spark burned furiously.

Perhaps Samantha would need professional help to objectively sort out her private problems, but for now, the push she had received through what we might call the power of love was enough.

Dumbledore would be proud of a scene like this, and as cheesy as it sounds, I hope that every reader who sees this finds that little nudge in their life to get better. It doesn't have to be love, it can be anything, but that is my sincere wish for all of you.
