-Chapter 5: First Impressions-

-Jess-

School. Probably my least favorite place in the entirety of Massachusetts. Rather ironic how the one person in the student government in charge of decisions on how to make the school better, doesn't even care for it. But oh well, I try my best.

I look down at my watch and give a small gasp. I turn to the others.

"Hey, I'm late for my meeting. I'll catch you both later, yeah?" I say.

They both nodded, and before they could say anything, I took off down the block.

------------

Once I got to the school, I quickly composed myself and made myself look presentable before walking through the doors.

"Sup Mr. Mays," I say to my principal.

"Good morning Jessica. Mr. Mays said with a warm smile. "The new student is waiting for you in my office. You have the first couple of classes off to show her around."

"Thank you so much. Hopefully, they'll feel welcome here," I say.

"I'm sure they will." Mr. Mays said. "Here are all the papers the new student will need to get signed. Make sure you give them to her."

"Yes, sir!" I say before turning to walk to the principal's office.

------

"Sorry, I'm late," I say when entering the main office. "Um, I'm looking for Ms. Cassandra Fletcher?"

A girl who wore a striped shirt and a plaid skirt stood up. Her almost black hair covered one of her eyes.

"Th-that's me." She said.

"Ok, Well, my name is Jessica Sinclair, but you can call me Jessie," I say with a smile. "I'm the class president for this year."

"Um, ok, Jessie," Cassandra said.

I can tell that Cassandra didn't want to be here. Then again, do I blame her? I put on my best smile and walk over to her.

"Good morning Cassie. May I call you that?" I say as I offer my hand for a handshake.

She reluctantly returns it but says nothing.

"Not a talker, are you?"

Cassie shakes her head no.

...

...

Awkward silence.

...

...

"Well, then!" I exclaim enthusiastically.

Cassie jumped a bit.

"Let's get on with the tour." I give a little giggle.

Though reluctant, Cassie follows.

-----------

"And over here is the lunchroom, where lunch is served," I say, trying to at least get a smile from this girl.

Cassie looks at the doors of the cafeteria, nods then resumes looking at the floor.

I sigh quietly before turning around and continuing with the tour and see Kris and Zeke standing by their lockers and talking. I smile to myself.

"Eureka!" I think. "I know just what to do."

I turn towards Cassie.

"I'm sorry, but could you wait here for a sec? I gotta go talk to someone." I say.

She nods a looks at the floor once again. I turn around and walk over to my friends.

"Zeke! Krissy!" I exclaim, putting my arms around them.

They both turn to look at me, Kris, with her bright smile and Zeke with the same dead look in his eyes.

"Hey, Jess! How's the tour going?" Kris says, noticing Cassie behind me.

"It's going well, thanks," I say. "She isn't much of a talker, though."

"So, she's like Zeke?" Kris laughs.

"Fuck off." He scowls and rolls his eyes.

I laugh at his expense.

"Anyways," I whisper. "I don't think newbie over here is gonna be a conversation starter. Can you guys try to hang out with her at lunch?"

"Sure!" Kris said with excitement.

I turn to Zeke. "What about you, dipshit?"

"Sure, I don't see why not." He said nonchalantly.

"Thanks, guys!" I say normally before walking over to Cassie.

"Shall we continue?" I ask her enthusiastically.

"S-sure." She peeps. "I g-guess."

She spoke. Holy heck, she spoke. I was not expecting that what so ever. But I didn't say anything about it and continued the tour with Cassie in tow.
