As I rose from my bed, it creaked softly beneath me. The sun was already shining through my window, unavoidably waking me up and casting a warm glow over the room.
"I really need to stop staying up all night reading fanfiction, but 'Flames of Justice' is just too good to put down," I yawned.
Glancing at the clock, I was shocked to see that it was already 7:26 am.
"Well, at least 31% of the day is already over. I need to hurry up now." I muttered, noticing the dark circles under my eyes.
"Not that it matters. I hardly ever get seen by anyone anyway."Staring at my reflection in the mirror, I sighed.
My dark brown hair hung in my face, failing to hide my strabismus of my dark brown eyes that seemed to look deep into me, or at least one of them tried to.
The nose itself was crooked, a result of a fight I got into trying to protect a friend from a bully. "I wonder how they're doing now," I thought out loud. "I haven't met anyone these past few years after that embarrassing day." I cringed inwardly.
The only good thing about my appearance was my white teeth, but they rarely saw the light of the world. Attempting to smile at myself in the mirror made me cringe again. Why was I such a person whose smile only looked forced in pictures? I had no idea. But back to my average-looking face, I noticed the time on the clock behind me through the reflection of the mirror. "Oops, I got lost in thought. Looks like only coffee to go for breakfast."
I headed to the kitchen, intent on getting some milk while my coffee brewed. "Wait, something's not right. This milk pack doesn't feel like it's still good to consume," I thought as I reached for the carton. Smelling the opening of the pack, a sour odor wafted out. "Ugh," I exclaimed. "How unlucky. Anyways, how could Naruto drink or eat something like that?"
He had no choice but to throw it away. 'Coffee without milk,' Kairos sighed dejectedly. As his coffee brewed, he changed into a simple black suit that fit his slender, 173 cm frame.
'Urgh...how can anyone like wearing this?' he grumbled to himself as he straightened his tie. He glanced at his watch and realized he was definitely going to be late again. 'Hmm, do I have everything?' He thought for a moment and then decided to go.
With some focus, a man in his thirties could be seen running through the crowds on the New York sidewalks. 'Maybe I can still make it,' he hoped with uneven breaths. Hope drove him as he reached the subway station, only to see the doors closing just as he arrived.
He stamped his foot in frustration and saw a little girl with a teddy backpack look at him with a pitying expression as if she understood his situation...
Ha, scratch that - she teased him and gave him the middle finger. "What the..." he exclaimed, but the train was already moving slowly and the two locked eyes. The girl now had a little innocent smile on her face. Until they couldn't see each other anymore.
'Damn, there'll be trouble, I better turn my phone on silent before everyone hears what's going on.' He forgot about the previous situation and focused on his new problems.
"Life is a bi***," he thought to himself.
It only took ten minutes for his boss to call. He took a deep breath and mentally prepared himself for this stressful situation called Mark Johnson.
"Goo..."
he couldn't finish as Johnson interrupted him.
"How many times do I have to explain to you, Mr. Kairos Garcia, that there will be serious consequences if you're late? This is the third time this week!" Mr. Johnson yelled at him in anger.
Kairos Garcia was the name his mother gave him before she closed her eyes forever, leaving him with not much money. His father became an alcoholic after this tragedy and died in a car accident when Kairos was 17. This compelled him to take all sorts of jobs until he landed here.
"I understood, Mr. Johnson. I..." Mr. Johnson interrupted Kairos before he could finish speaking. "It seems like you don't know. I want to see you in my office as soon as you arrive." With that, he hung up the phone.
"I'm in big troubel now, and I need the money," he thought to himself.
"But why? To finance my manga, anime, premium subscriptions, and other hobbies, of course. At least those things can't emotionally hurt me."
"Since I'm already waiting here, I might as well read some fanfiction," I thought as I delved into the world of Naruto.
"I like Shikamaru. He's intelligent, much better looking than me, and he thinks women are tiresome. 'What a drag,' " I chuckled quietly to myself. "I've been rejected by women too many times, 68 to be exact, mostly colleagues from different jobs."
As the train approached, I shifted my attention from my phone. I saw a happy-looking young couple and a few other people, whom I paid no attention to. However, the couple got me thinking. "Should I try one last time? No, better not. It will only hurt again." I refocused on my phone and immersed myself in the story again.
After a short train ride, I finally arrived at work. I rarely paid attention to anyone, but today was different. Mr. Johnson was very loud, and almost everyone heard his anger. "He's finally here. Do you think he'll get fired?" I heard two colleagues whispering. "Definitely," I sighed for the third time today. "My next job will be far from people."
So, I entered the lion's den. I walked into the manager's office and received a stern lecture from Mr. Johnson. However, I wasn't fired. Instead, I was given more work. "Ugh," I groaned under the weight of the dokuments he had assigned me.
Even though I was still here, the gossip about me stopped. Everyone ignored me, but I preferred it that way.
All of this happened because I developed feelings for a colleague who initially helped me. She became very dear to me, and I confessed my feelings to her. However, I was friend-zoned, which hurt. To make matters worse, people in the office started talking badly about me since she was very popular. All of this led to my current situation as an introverted outsider. I looked at the clock and saw that it was 4:33 pm, the legendary time because it means that 69% of the day is over.
"It also meant that I had lunch break for three minutes now." I thought to myself,
-> a small time-skip <-
"Haha, finally over!" A hint of joy sprouted within me. He finally finished all his work at 8:30 pm.
"Huh, where's my wallet?" Kairos muttered to himself without really asking anyone and also bringing his mood down again. "Did I leave it at home? Today is not my day."
He turned around to prepare for a shopping trip.
"Hmm, this is much more comfortable," he said to himself. "A sweater and comfortable pants are much better than this suit." Kairos was now wearing black pants, white slightly dirty sneakers, and a black hoodie that only showed his hair hanging in his face.
Luckily, there was a store nearby, and he headed off. It was only a small grocery store, but it had everything he needed.
As he searched for his groceries, he saw an old woman having trouble reaching the top shelf where the discounted dog food was.
"Young man, could you help me reach that dog food up there?"
"Sure thing."
"Oh, thank you, you're very helpful, young man."
A small smile spread across his face. 'As they say, you should perform a good deed every day. Check.'
He finished his shopping shortly after and stepped out of the store.
An eerie silence, along with a feeling of foreboding and coldness, crept up his back and into his neck, causing all his hairs to stand on end and giving him goosebumps.
"New York never sleeps, so why is it suddenly so quiet?" he thought.
The streets were empty and only slightly lit. He turned around to go back into the store, but to his shock, the store was closed, and there was no light to be seen.
"What the f***, what's going on here?"
Suddenly, a strong light appeared behind him, and a motor could be heard.
His eyes had to adjust to the sudden light. After a few seconds, Kairos could see a truck standing behind him, reflected in the glass door.
"So this will be how it ends... or can I even call it an end?"
"Truck-kun, please be gentle." Closing his eyes as these were Kairos's last shocked thoughts.
With these last thoughts, Truck-kun crashed into Kairos at full force, making him a reincarnator. But what will happen now?
Creation is hard, cheer me up!
