Reborn As The World Traveling Female Assassin

Xzavier Resnik lived a boring life. After getting off the bus, he walked with his friend towards his apartment since they lived next door to each other, but when a slit emerged across his neck, he clutched his neck and fell to the ground. Thud! When he turned his head to the left, he saw a woman with black hair and beautiful red eyes peering at him from a tall light pole before fading away, as a pool of blood formed beneath him before he lost consciousness and died minutes later. … Xzavier woke up perplexed since he felt different and knew that he should've died, so he went looking for a bathroom as he wanted to get a look at himself in the mirror. When he entered the bathroom and looked in the mirror, he saw a woman with black hair and beautiful crimson eyes, which immediately reminded him of the woman he had seen before he lost consciousness. As expected, there were several differences to note here, the first being the exp stat, which displayed the gained and needed experience for every level—something Ayla was fairly familiar with as she'd played several games with the exp function. Another was the titles, which she assumed to be relating to the titles earned by actions, such as slaying these mutated cows; if she slayed the set quota for the title, she'd gain the title.

And last but not least, her physique and race—they appeared to have detected the growing succubi essence inside her and considered her to be a succubus.

'The system blatantly calling me a succubus doesn't make things any better... I'd rather it not display it, though it's true.'

Saddened, Ayla set off—she decided to vent her sadness on the mutated cows without turning them into minced meat.

In another part of the city, Kai Burgess leaned against the central palace's balcony's railing, staring off into the distance and observing the beauty of nature that encased the eastern side of the city.

"Beautiful, isn't it?" A young woman asked from behind. Kai turned around, and his eyes met the young woman's.

She appeared to be around his age, donning a white gown and a white robe with golden rims on top of that; her hair was teal blue, and her golden eyes sparkled under the sunlight with innocence in her eyes. She was Janiya Irwin, the Holy Saintess.

"Certainly!" Kai smiled. "It reminds me of my world, where I lived with my parents and little sister."

"I do hope they are living well even without you!"

Kai lowered his head; her words appeared to have hit a soft spot. "Their dead... we all died after the demon nation destroyed ours, but I was given another chance... to redeem myself for my lack of strength and to avenge for those who've wrongfully died to the demons."

"My apologies for speaking about such a sensitive topic."

"You don't need to apologize." He replied. "Let's end the sad talk here... I'm assuming you're here for something."

"Your intuition is truly remarkable." She smiled. "Grand Master Adele Barron has requested a meeting with the hero's party at the mage's branch tower in Arcton city."

'Arcton City, huh? I heard he hasn't returned to the capital in several days; could it be he's there to explore the dungeon? The city does house the dungeon, The Damned Lair.' He contemplated. "Accept the request and notify the others that we're departing for Arcton City."

"I've already notified them; they're ready to leave at any time."

'Janiya's ability to predict my choices of actions and act on them is incredible. If she were to be my enemy, she'd be a formidable opponent to fight against.'

The hero's party set off from the palace in the royal family's luxurious carriage, carrying them to the mage's branch tower in Arcton City.

~~~
About an hour later, they arrived at the mage's branch tower, only to be greeted personally by Adele Barron and several mages who lived inside the tower.
"What an honor it is to meet you, Kai Burgess, the light hero!" Adele smiled as Kai stepped out of the carriage.
"Likewise!" Kai's eyes landed on Adele Barron.
He was a young man, appearing to be in his late twenties with hazel eyes and dirty blonde hair, dressed in a white and blue mage's robe that hid his moderately sized muscles.
"Shall we head in? There's no need to continue burning daylight!" Adele walked into the mage's tower, followed by the mage's and hero's parties.
'The crest of the mage's tower.' Kai thought as he found the mage's tower crest on Adele's robe.
The crest consisted of the five symbols of the elements: fire, water, wind, lighting, and earth, all surrounding the sun, which represented the element of light.
~~~

It didn't take long for them to reach the topmost floor of the tower, where a single room took up the entire floor. A large circular wooden table was located in the center of the room.

"Please take a seat!" Adele said, sitting down in a chair and gesturing for the others to take their own seats. "I'll quickly get down to business."

As they sat down, Adele waited patiently before he started disclosing why he had requested a meeting with the hero's party.

"It's simple really. Lately, I've been searching for the whereabouts of a rare ingredient for an item, and just recently I've discovered its location; however, the location isn't something I can easily reach-"

"Let me guess… it's inside The Damned Lair?"

"Indeed, it's inside The Damned Lair, but it's on the 115th floor, where even someone of your status hasn't reached."

"So… You want us to escort you as you search for this ingredient?"

"Precisely, everything your party discovers or slays along the way will rightfully be yours. All I desire is this rare ingredient."

Kai frowned. He felt this was a good opportunity for his party and himself to grow; however, he had a suspicion—one that sprouted from how Adele knew about this ingredient from a floor of The Damned Lair—and even though he'd never been down to that floor nor did he have knowledge of someone having been down there either, he couldn't help but feel suspicious of Adele.

It was accurate to say that Kai was considered the average cliched hero protagonist, who's dense when it comes to relationships and can easily be swayed by a beautiful woman; however, when it comes down to combat, history, and business, he has knowledge of such and made sure to know the history of the kingdom he's in and the world.

In the blink of an eye, he unsheathed and raised his sword to Adele's neck. "Tell me! How do you know this ingredient is located on the 115th floor? There are no records in the history books of anyone ever reaching that floor!"

"Woah, woah…" Adele quickly raised his hands as if to surrender. "Not all historical records are kept in the Royal Library. Many have been lost and forgotten over the years. Here, take a look!"

He pulled out a shabby gray book and handed it over to Kai. Kai took it and read the book's title, "Records of Alvaro."

He opened the book and skimmed through it—it turned out to be a diary of Alvaro's adventures. After several minutes of skimming through the book, he stopped, returned his gaze to Adele, and smiled.

"I believe you, and I apologize for my actions!" He smiled coldly, "I accept your request, and I'd appreciate it if you would refrain from telling anyone about what happened here. Do you have any problems with that?"

"No, sir." Adele readily agreed as he felt a chill run down his spine.

"Good!" Kai walked up to Adele and held out his hand for a handshake, and she complied and shook his hand.

"Nice doing business with you."

With that, the hero's party and Adele set off for The Damned Lair in search for a rare ingredient...
