Seeing how hard they had worked, Laila decided to stop and address them.
"You've all worked hard. Alright, I'll answer three questions. Please refrain from asking more, okay?"
Those who knew her well understood that her "okay" was not a question; it was an unequivocal confirmation. If anyone dared to challenge it, they'd see Miss Moran coolly turning and leaving the moment they opened their mouths, without a single word left behind.
So, to get answers to three questions, the journalists had no choice but to accept her conditions. Hollywood had its share of strong personalities, but she was in a league of her own when it came to both having a strong character and showing it off.
Three questions couldn't be squandered. The journalists huddled together to discuss for a moment, and then someone posed the first question.
"Director Moran, you mentioned that Victor entered the interrogation room and initiated negotiations with you. Did he use any threatening or coercive actions towards you at that time?"
Laila knew this question had depth, and if she answered affirmatively, the journalists would be celebrating tomorrow. Without the conversation with the police chief earlier, she would have been open and truthful. However, her interests compelled her not to place too much burden on the police station.
But Victor's actions had already been exposed, and she had informed the police chief that she could tone down the accusations. Nevertheless, she couldn't alter what had already transpired. They had to sort it out themselves.
So, she provided an expected answer, "That gentleman did have a rather strong attitude. I don't think anyone could have expected him to say those things, even I couldn't fathom how a supposed gentleman could be so crude in his desire to get something I own for free."
She deliberately phrased it this way to shift the attention to Victor's arrogance. As long as the journalists were captivated by his behavior, the police station would attract less attention. In this regard, she believed she was a very skilled negotiator, not only fulfilling her agreement but also diverting some of the scrutiny away from the police.
Victor, on the other hand, was in for a tough time. He wouldn't just be embarrassed; it might take him a long time to build the courage to go outside again. What he would undoubtedly face was a barrage of mockery.
The second question quickly followed, "Did you experience any unfair treatment at the police station?"
Laila silently lit a candle of hope for the police chief. She wished she could have used a slight maneuver to shift the attention away, but the police station had drawn too much attention; it was a situation she couldn't easily divert with a minor tactic.
Nevertheless, they had worked together, so she decided to leave them some face.
"If you consider letting an unrelated individual enter the interrogation room as unfair treatment, then yes, I did feel offended. But, on the other hand, the police station sees a mix of various people coming and going, and the police officers may not have immediately noticed or prevented it. It's not something I can't forgive."
The journalists were left speechless by her words. They wanted to say, "Miss, you're changing your tune rather quickly, aren't you?" As soon as they heard her response, they knew she had reached an agreement with the police. Otherwise, how could she speak favorably of a place that had just offended her?
Upholding justice and peace? The journalists now believed that this young, brilliant director was genuinely fascinated by superhero comics to think the police station represented that.
"Director Moran, did you receive any benefits at the police station that made you willing to conceal the truth?" was the third and expected question.
Laila simply smiled in response, "Don't always think the world is full of darkness; there are places with light and goodness worth reporting. Regarding what happened to me just now, a group of street racers showed up at my café and treated my friend with hostility and rudeness. If it weren't for the police officers' intervention, my café might have already been ruined."
"In that situation, they took me to the police station for questioning, and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. I cooperated. As for Victor's actions later on, I believe there might be circumstances that none of us are aware of. Otherwise, gentlemen, if you were in their shoes, would you take the risk to enter an interrogation room and harass someone?"
Of course, they would! The journalists naturally thought that way, but they couldn't say it out loud. Instead, they chuckled and admitted her reasoning was sound.
Laila knew their true thoughts and understood they wouldn't openly express them, so she continued in the same vein, "That's it. I think there might be more to Mr. Victor's actions than meets the eye. Well, it's getting late, so I bid you all farewell, dear journalists."
She waved her hand, and with Walton and Aiden, she got into the car driven by her bodyguards.
It had been an exceptionally long day, and Laila felt that so much had happened. She also knew this was just the beginning; tomorrow, after fermenting overnight, things would become even more lively.

Early the next morning, when the newspapers were delivered to Laila, she wasn't surprised to see yesterday's events on the front pages. As she had suspected, the topics surrounding her and Victor outnumbered those about the police station. After all, the events of yesterday were of more interest to the entertainment journalists; they didn't care about the police station's potential misconduct, which was a concern for reporters from other sections.
They were focused on digging out more juicy details from Laila and enjoying the opportunity to ridicule Victor.
It had been so long since such an amusing plot had unfolded, something you'd only find in movies and TV shows. Threatening someone wealthier than yourself, not only trying to obtain her property for free but also extracting thousands of dollars from her.
Oh, the irony! A billionaire was extorting a few thousand dollars from an even wealthier heir of a conglomerate.
Who had ever seen a more dramatic story? It was simply hilarious!
