Chapter 38: Rewarded with a Kiss
The girl had just bathed, and her natural fragrance mingled with the fresh scent of soap, creating an irresistible allure. Her soft, sweet lips, like cotton candy, brushed Logan's neck. The man's terrifying aura dissipated, yielding to her embrace and vulnerable kisses.
Feeling Logan's subtle change in mood, Emma's high-strung heart finally relaxed a bit. She had rushed to the door, feigning an attempt to lock up for some privacy. Would he see through her?
"Sweetheart, why are you here?" Emma tried to infuse her voice with surprise and joy, though her heart pounded with anxiety.
Logan's icy eyes, however, seemed to penetrate her soul. Emma felt a pang of guilt. Did he see through her little act?
After a long pause, Logan's thin lips moved. "People chasing you... lined up to the galaxy?"
It took Emma a moment to realize he was quoting her song. Her face flushed in embarrassment. "No, no! It's just lyrics!"
Lined up to the galaxy... more like filling up eighteen levels of hell! Could anyone dare to pursue her and live to see the next day? And, honestly, who would even pursue her? She didn't have a single fly buzzing around.
"Oh! By the way, I scored first in the class this time!" Emma quickly changed the subject, hoping to divert his attention.
Logan's fingers played gently with a strand of her hair. "Hmm." His tone was so natural, as if her achieving this was the most expected thing in the world. His calm acceptance gave her an indescribable sense of validation. Out of everyone, Logan believed in her.
Noticing Emma's dazed, somewhat disappointed look, Logan's long fingers pinched her lips gently and, to her surprise, kissed them lightly. "Well done."
Emma blinked, then blinked again. Uh… was she being rewarded? What had she done to make Logan think she was asking for a kiss? Whatever, as long as he's happy.
Suddenly, Emma remembered, this was a girls' dorm! How did he get in? More importantly, when was he leaving?
After thinking for a moment, she turned to Logan. "This is the girls' dorm. Shouldn't you leave?"
"Where's your blanket?" Logan asked suddenly.
"Huh? Blanket?" Emma was confused, then replied instinctively, "I put it outside to air during the day. I haven't brought it in yet! Should I go get it...?"
Logan nodded slightly. "Hmm."
Emma didn't understand why Logan asked about the blanket, but she went to the balcony to fetch it. After struggling to make the bed, she patted the pillow. The aired blanket and pillow were soft and warm, looking very comfortable.
Logan seemed satisfied. He walked over and lay down on her small bed. "Set an alarm for two hours."
Emma stared at Logan lying on her bed, completely dumbfounded. Logan was going to sleep in her room!
Her mind raced. Why was Logan so comfortable invading her personal space? She couldn't understand his reasoning. Despite her confusion, she set the alarm as he requested, her hands shaking slightly.
"Come here." Logan patted the space beside him, his gaze softening.
Emma hesitated, then carefully climbed into the bed. The space was tight, forcing them close together. Logan's arms wrapped around her, pulling her against his chest. His body heat seeped into her, making her feel both safe and apprehensive.
"Logan, this… this is really inappropriate," she whispered.
Logan's grip tightened. "Just sleep, Emma. I'll leave after two hours."
Emma bit her lip, her heart pounding. She could feel his steady heartbeat against her back, and his breath tickled her neck. His presence was overwhelming, yet oddly comforting.
As minutes passed, Emma found herself relaxing in Logan's embrace. The rhythm of his breathing lulled her into a sense of security. She closed her eyes, trying to quiet her racing thoughts.
Logan's hand moved, caressing her arm gently. "You did well today," he murmured.
Emma's heart swelled with emotion. Despite his possessiveness and intensity, moments like this made her feel valued. She turned slightly to look at him, their faces inches apart.
"Thank you," she whispered, her eyes searching his.
Logan's eyes softened. "Sleep now, Emma."
Emma nodded, closing her eyes again. She focused on the warmth of his body, the sound of his breathing, and the gentle touch of his hand. Slowly, she drifted off to sleep, feeling safe in Logan's arms.
Two hours later, the alarm buzzed softly. Emma stirred, her eyes fluttering open. Logan was already awake, watching her with an unreadable expression. He gently moved a strand of hair from her face.
"I have to go," he said quietly.
Emma nodded, still groggy. "Okay."
Logan leaned in, kissing her forehead tenderly. "I'll see you tomorrow."
Emma watched as he silently slipped out of her bed and left the dorm. Her heart was heavy with mixed emotions. She lay back down, staring at the ceiling. Logan's presence lingered, leaving her feeling both comforted and slightly uneasy.
She knew their relationship was complicated, but moments like this strengthened her bond with him. Emma sighed, pulling the blanket closer. Whatever the future held, she felt a growing readiness to face it with Logan by her side.
