Edna took the miners to the Ezraders, while Lumina brewed new potions for Mortis in a small cauldron. The latter went outside the cave with some to put away the tents and everything, and stationed his spirits so that no one could enter the cave. Mortis did not want to monitor his people and had complete confidence, so he used the time to get some sleep in a dark corner. But after a few hours, Mortis heard shouting from women and men, which made him sleep fitfully until Edna shook him and woke him up. It seemed that a bunch of people were fleeing and asking for shelter when they saw people in the cave. Mortis just nodded and headed off to see what was going on. Still tired, he looked around outside the cave and saw the people he had rescued, led by the old man he was talking to. "What is going on here? Didn't I tell you that this is my cave now? Besides, what are the women with children doing here and why do there seem to be normal citizens here?" asked Mortis. The old man got down on his knees and said, "Sir, we were aware when we learned that you would clear this hell, but the city was attacked by a horde full of monsters and undead. And even though we struck those bastards down, they rose up again in no time. Those who fell on our side suddenly fought against us. So we took everything we could hold and headed here to find them and take shelter. They say they are some kind of necromancers. I beg you, please save our town and the residents who didn't make it out in time."
Mortis didn't think twice and nodded in understanding. Just as he was about to send someone to Lumina, she already arrived with healing potions so he could go on his way. Mortis thanked his wife, who seemed to always be one step ahead, and gave her a kiss in front of the assembled crew. Then he turned to the people and said, "There's no bumming around here, there's work to be done. The sooner everything is gone, the sooner I'll get you out of here. I will now go to your town and see what can be done. But even if it sounds hard, this town will probably be lost. But I promise that no demon or undead will ever walk this planet again that has wreaked havoc before or in this town."
He took out his spirit bear, gave Lumina another air kiss, and rode off toward the south while brandishing his scythe
No matter how cute and beautiful Lumina was, she could be quite different and people quickly noticed. They didn't even have time to take a breath, already they were divided up. Whether young or old, everyone had something to do, and no one dared to contradict her or even leave a mine. The miners were no different with Edna, but with her it was more like, never contradict a dwarf when it comes to digging for ore.
Arriving at the main road, a few adventurers stood to show people the way. But what Mortis saw only made him shake his head. No matter how threatened the people were, they still tried to take everything, as if that was more important than their lives or the lives of others. So some pulled carts and carriages full of valuables and people who would have loved to run each other over. But Mortis' bear all jumped out of the way and looked back eagerly, wondering how anyone could ride on a ghost. Close to the city, adventurers and soldiers were surrounded and the demons set about attacking the pursuers. But Mortis came leaping over the last with swung scythe and decapitated the demons that tried to attack the humans. Mortis' bear also grabbed an undead and flattened it. He then ran past Mortis, causing him to grab hold and leap up at a sprint. As he did so, he held his scythe forward like a lance, flattening a few more demons along the way.
In the city, the devastation was great. Many things were in flames and everywhere smelled of blood and death. The black monsters destroyed everything and tried to wipe out every life in this city, the undead as well. Mortis as a living man was like a signal fire, on which immediately everything rushed, which was also only rudimentarily in his proximity, above all the demons, which rushed towards him confident of victory. But Mortis only smiled and jumped off his bear directly towards them. "As it seems, you are overconfident, thinking you cannot die. But too bad for you, because your souls belong to me."
Mortis didn't want to waste any time and pulled the entire horde of monsters with him to the market, where most of them had gathered in front of a church, as they felt safer there. When the demons and undead noticed that a living human was simply walking through their ranks, they went wild and roared loudly to alert others to the brave human. But what they didn't suspect was that this was exactly what Mortis wanted, to become stronger in tight spaces. When the market was full of enemies, Mortis used his ability to create a clone with whom he shared ice fog and then sliced through the horde with spirit weapons and scythe whirls. In no time, Mortis collected more than 2000 souls from the enemies alone, without his enemies really knowing what was happening to them.
But when the fun was over for Mortis and only scattered undead and demons remained, Mortis tried to get into the church to free the humans. The demons had set the door on fire and barricaded the windows. The townspeople were frantic and screaming for their lives, coughing heavily as the town in general was already on fire. It seemed that the demons were trying to drive the people out of their holes by smoking them out.
Mortis used Fallen Comet to smash the door and clear the way. But the first thing he saw were spears that almost impaled him, but which he managed to dodge. The soldiers were startled when they realized they had almost killed one of their comrades. But then one of them asked hopefully, "Is the coast clear? Has help come?" "Yes, it has. I'm here. Go on, make sure you get out of here and head north. There are adventurers waiting for you there who will take you to a safe place. Come on now, I'll finish this."
The humans ran for their lives, accompanied by Mortis and his assault squad, to the outskirts of town so they would not be attacked by any more assailants. Some undead tried to charge out of rubble or run burned toward them, but the assault squad was quick and consistent when it came to enemies. After everyone was evacuated from the city, Mortis set about returning to finish everything off as promised. The undead were not a problem, as he could sense them hundreds of meters away, but living ones that he did not see directly could hide from him. Although the city was lost, it was safer for everyone to finish them all off so these creatures didn't continue to spread like ants. Mortis moved through the rubble and the houses, seeing horrific images of undead families locked up or half-eaten or burned. These images drove Mortis to speed up and curse Osmirnis for being such a monster of God that granted no peace to the dead.
It was starting to get dark and even the city was nothing more than coal and glowing rock when Mortis found a few more demons, which he immediately put out. Although this brought him back up a level, he wasn't happy at all and full of frustration he headed off to Hell to check on the survivors and, most importantly, to check on the progress of his work. He never longed so much to be taken in his arms by one of his wives, because what he saw today did not pass him by without a trace.
In hell, he was celebrated and cheered by everyone, which Mortis accepted with a smile and waved in a friendly manner. As he did so, he saw that the ore was still plentiful, but the demons were properly skinned and processed. Just as he saw Lumina and was about to walk toward her, all he heard was, "You smell like smoke and misery. Go take a bath first." Suddenly Mortis was standing in his castle dining room where his other wives were having dinner. "Welcome back, dear," could be heard, and Mortis said with a smile, "Good to be back. Save some for me, I'm very hungry, but let me take a bath first."
