They arrived at the Core, and Blaise halted near the building that they’d come to use as home base. “Return to me when you have an answer.”
Stella dismounted and headed to the Saloon.

When Libs came upon the Saloon, he knew at once that something was up. The scent of blood was overpowering, and was from more than one source. There were people barricading the windows with sheets of steel, welding them in place. He checked the upper windows and saw sentries, all aiming rifles in his direction.
The barkeeper came out to see him.
“What’s happened?” Libs asked, eyes still sweeping the area and trying to find the source of all the blood. “Why is the Saloon being boarded up?”
“We’ve sent Jane a message. She can’t hold us under her thumb any more. We’re not putting up with it, not when we have a chance at a decent life.” The barman eyed him up. “I don’t know what side you’re on, Libs, but I know that we don’t have a chance if we attack you now.”
