Chapter 25: A Wholesome Scene

Kian was looking at her with concern when she jumped at the harsh creak of the emergency parking brake. He undid his seatbelt with a snap and shifted so he could face her.

"Ready?" he asked after a beat of silence.

Junie tried to answer but it felt like her throat was closing up. She stared up at the house they had pulled up to with its huge well-kept front lawn and facade made of multi-colored stones.

She was immediately intimidated.

"Your parents have a big house," she said finally.

Kian chuckled lightly and gathered her hands up in his, running his thumbs along the backs of her knuckles. "You don't have to be nervous," he said. "I already know they're going to love you."

She thought about protesting but bit her tongue before nodding, trying to swallow around the lump in her throat.

Kian smiled gently at her and then his dark chocolate brown eyes lit up with excitement. Junie had no choice but to smile back.
