Their bodies froze, in disbelief at what they had just heard. It felt like something was pulling them into forgotten history because that would just frighten everyone away.

It sounded so classic that they could hardly believe it, but the Beta man's gaze clearly showed such sincerity that they could only believe it. No lies, that's all they know until they know that there are things they couldn't imagine would happen if they made the slightest mistake.
