Leaving the town

"We are leaving this town after breakfast. Go get cleaned up" Licht said to Midas.

Midas nodded then canceled the spell. He stood up and went to get washed up while Licht did the same.

They finished with their bath and then went to have breakfast. They also told the inn owner to prepare some meat jerky and other provisions that they would use on their journey.

After leaving the inn, they both walked for a while towards the city exit but they were stopped by the mayor and two other men.

The mayor came with his fire mane lion while the two other men were on regular horses.

"Sir Licht, I heard you were leaving from Garrett. If he didn't tell me, I would never have been able to express my thanks for yesterday. I just brought these horses as a token of my appreciation. They would make your journey a whole lot faster and easier" James offered humbly.

Licht looked towards the horses and nodded. It would in fact make the journey easier. Right now, Midas was carrying a huge bag with provisions and clothing.

They each took a horse and galloped away from the town while James just stared till they were no longer in view.

Licht and Midas rode towards the forest Licht first came out from. That forest was called the Gloom Forest. This was because the outskirts of the forest where the two mercenary guilds were fighting seems like a normal forest with almost no danger but going deeper would be a deadly mistake. Most adventurers that go into the forest seldom come back alive and the ones that come back alive either come back crazy, crippled, or severely injured. They talk about beasts above the Yellow rank and even Blue rank beasts, so people have learned their lesson not to go into the forest.

The reason why Licht and Midas were going through the forest was to train Midas on how to use his elements and gain proficiency at it.

They rode into the forest and stopped sometime around noon so the horses could rest and they could eat lunch.

While eating, Licht started to teach Midas about the spells in the book.

"There are several spells in the journal of that old coot. Some of them involved the soul of a newborn, while some needed the wielder to massacre thousands of people. I do not really care about the line between good and evil, but I'm not going to let you kill a newborn or massacre innocent people. You can massacre an army that wants to attack you though, I do not mind that." Licht spoke seriously, then joked at the end.

Midas gave a sigh of relief when he heard he would not have to kill a newborn, but then froze when he heard he could massacre an army later.

He looked at Licht while Licht was enjoying his jerky and smiling at the jerky. Midas smiled wryly as his master ate his jerky.

Licht continued "For soulmancers, they need to store souls within theirs. Souls fuel them and help implement their spells. There are only small spells that don't need to use souls to be cast. Your soul flame is one of them, you can use souls to make it more powerful...like so". As Licht was talking, he raised his palm and a green flame appeared above his palm and Midas saw a blob of light that resembled the face of a man being fed into the flame and the fire grew from the size of a tennis ball to the size of a watermelon.

Midas was surprised that Licht could use soul-related abilities, and then he saw that increment and was impressed.

"Master, how is it that you can use both Lava and soul ether abilities?"

"It is due to me being able to bend order to my will. Using my order abilities, I can emulate any element with the same strength as the opponent I face. Being able to bend order to my taste makes me in charge of it. I am not merely borrowing the ether attributes as everyone does, for me, it is like an organ, for I have mastered the law, but that is too complicated for you right now. It is very weak right now but later, you would understand how powerful order is." Licht smiled and different lights shone around Licht. They were the ether elements like Fire, Lightning, Soul, and others.

Midas stared at the lights with awe and decided to be someone that his master would be proud of because he felt he could never reach the level his master had reached.

Licht canceled the elements and continued the explanation "Other the soul flame, there is the soul frost, soul bind, and soul buff, we would try to learn the other spells and improve from there."

As they were sitting and eating, Midas was also practicing the spells. Sometimes, an area would freeze over but look unaffected at the same time, sometimes green chains would wrap around a tree. By the time, they were done eating, Midas had a basic understanding of most of the spells.

They left on their horses after the hour. During the ride, Midas continued to practice, Licht just glanced at him and continued the ride.

After riding for a few more hours, Licht stopped the horses and looked in a certain direction. Then he looked at Midas saying" It looks like we've found a worthy opponent for you to train with"

Midas was confused till he heard a growl coming from the bushes. He looked in the direction of the growl and could faintly see a shadow.

"Soul Buff" he chanted.

His eyes had a faint green light emitting from them, and green mist was being emitted from both his eyes.

Soul buff was a spell that strengthen your soul hence increasing your perception and attribute to predict, in other words, reflexes were faster, and perception was boosted.

When he used the spell, soul buff, he saw a jaguar that was over a meter in length and height, stalking in the bushes, staring at them.

The Jaguar was ash-colored with spots all over and there was a streak made of hardened fur that went from the top of its head to its tail. Its claws were over 4 inches and sharp teeth that made anyone who saw such a slight shiver.

Midas paled after seeing the Jaguar." It's the Quilled Jaguar, It's a 7th brown rank beast, Master."

"I know. That is your opponent. Now go and kill it."Licht urged"

Midas stared at Licht and then the Jaguar which was already stalking closer from the trees. It felt these humans would make a good meal.

Midas took a deep breath and got down from his horse and went towards the Jaguar. He had determination in his eyes.

He chanted and then the soul flame appeared in his right hand while soul frost was emitting from the left with the green mist slowly spilling out of his eyes. He would have looked very impressive.

The Jaguar stopped moving forward and stared at the two hands of the weak human in front of it. It could feel its insides heat up and shiver at the same time. Licht on the other hand was generally impressed with the fact that Midas could already dual-cast two spells and he clapped his hands albeit it wasn't making a sound.

The Jaguar then burst forward with immense speed, thinking it could kill the human before it even realized anything.
