Jake was sprawled on his bed, scrolling through social media feeds that seemed to blur into a monotonous stream of memes, selfies, and food pics. His cramped apartment was dimly lit, the flickering bulb doing little to lift the gloom that had settled over him.
Chapter 40: A Pile of Junk
On top of the pile of junk was something that resembled a decorative painting. Li Jingshen turned it over and was stunned to see that it was actually their wedding photo.
He had some recollection of this photo, but he remembered that he had smashed it and asked Shen Zhichu to throw it away. How could it be here, intact? Had she secretly framed and kept it afterwards? And if she had kept it for four years, why was it now thrown away with a pile of junk?
Li Jingshen couldn't quite describe his feelings at that moment. He had been denying the changes in Shen Zhichu's feelings towards him, but now, seeing this abandoned wedding photo, he had to admit that Shen Zhichu had truly let go of her feelings for him.
In the past, he had always scorned Shen Zhichu, confidently believing that she would be pathetic for the rest of her life. He had never thought that one day she would stop loving him, and that day had come suddenly and unexpectedly.
