Chapter 3 : Rematch and I want a pokemon

----- Berrytown----

The day was bright with good weather, as we started on a short trip to Berrytown, a quaint little town nestled not far from our village.

I found myself surrounded by the energetic chatter of the orphanage kids, their excitement palpable as they anticipated the upcoming rookie tournament.

The matrons, with their kind smiles, led the group, ensuring every child was accounted for. It was a relaxing trip on the bus for everyone, even the Matrons, since Mr. Mime is minding the kids.

As we traversed the forest route to Berrytown, the lush landscapes opened up before us. Rolling hills and vibrant meadows created a picturesque backdrop, adding to the anticipation of the tournament ahead.

I felt myself enjoying the Pokemon breathing the air, filled with freshness, and hearing the laughter and the occasional trill of Pokémon in the background.

In a way, pokemon is far ahead of the 21st century Earth by centuries in terms of peace, and people's living standards.

The journey provided ample time for reflection. I couldn't help but think of the progress we had made with Beedrill. The rookie tournament will be a platform to showcase my breeding talent to Sam and Gerad so that they will agree with my request.

Catching a good Pokemon on my own is risky. If it was the main Kanto gym cities, then there might have been a chance for me. But in this untamed wild of Bharatsa, it is too much of a risk.

Still, the Kanto alliance and Johto alliance, together as Indigo League directly constitute more than 90% of the continent's population. Other than the 8 main gym cities, the original Kanto, the rest still possess their regional or national identities. Thankfully, these identities don't carry hostilities among each other.

I am getting sidetracked again, Breeding Pokemon is an important part of Pokemon Training, which frankly holds back more than 90% of trainers.

After all, teaching Beedrill Venoshock doesn't just mean explaining the concept but also feeding it with a diet of Berry rich in poison energy, sodium, and potassium without affecting its physical growth.

It is not a simple matter to teach a Pokémon a new move, especially if the typing of the move is not its innate type. There needs to be a proper diet, exercise, and in the case of Poison moves, a passable limit of toxicity in Poison, to introduce into the Pokemon, without damaging its body. All of this required me to research about Beedrill.

Sure, one doesn't need to care about all this and can go the dumb way. They will succeed but it takes far too much time. This was the reason the Pokemon trainers kept control of the size of the team. Each new addition signifies numerous things to learn, requiring years to complete.

The only reason Ash had such an easy time in the canon was because he had a talented breeder like Brock throughout his journey. If Brock left, he was replaced by other breeders.

I was broken from my jealous thoughts regarding Ash when the scenery changed.

Berrytown emerged in the distance, its charming wooden architecture among the berry orchards welcomed us. The small town buzzed with excitement as trainers from neighboring villages gathered for the tournament. The scent of fresh berries filled the air, reminding me of the town's characteristic features.

The rookie tournament held special significance in Bharasta for generations. Not only did it mark the opportunity for the 10-year-olds to showcase their skills, but it also permitted them to train their second Pokémon.

But all that is in the past. Nowadays, one needs a single win to be given full privileges as a Pokemon Trainer. All these changes are thanks to the evolving standards influenced by Oak's innovations, during his time as Kanto Champion.

The closest to Kanto's standards is its historic rival-Johto. Many say the reason is that Oak served a brief term as Indigo champion, hence they managed to catch up with Kanto.

------Rookie tournament----

The town square bustled with activity, adorned with colorful banners announcing the tournament. The atmosphere was contagious, igniting the competitive spirit within each participant.

The matrons guided the kids to the registration area, where the 10-year-olds eagerly signed up for the battles that awaited them.

.I decided to take a break from the bustling town square and find a quiet spot to observe the various battles of the rookie tournament. I perched myself on a grassy hill overlooking the battleground, ready to witness the clash of inexperienced trainers and their Pokémon.

The first few matches were, as expected, a display of raw enthusiasm. Ten-year-olds sending out Pokémon with more excitement than strategy.

I couldn't help but chuckle as I saw a determined trainer urging their Magikarp to unleash Thunderbolt. Seriously? Expecting a Magikarp to pull off such a feat was plain ludicrous.

The lack of tactics and sometimes even basic knowledge of their Pokémon's moves was apparent. Each trainer was discovering their Pokemon abilities on the fly.

As the day continued, the battles grew more interesting. Some trainers showed promise, adapting and learning from their earlier mistakes. I found myself quietly rooting for those who displayed a hint of strategic thinking, even if it was just a spark.

Then came the rematch between Jon and Sam, a showdown that had been building throughout the tournament. Their Beedrill and Butterfree faced off once again, creating a classic rivalry dynamic. The air was charged with anticipation as both the trainers eyed each other with rivalry.

Despite the youthful playfights of the tournament, the Jon and Sam rivalry showed a glimpse of the serious side of Pokémon battles. The one that I am hoping to face in the Kanto circuit.

---JON VS SAM----

As if a joke, the rematch started with the same moves.

Jon shouted out, "Butterfree, Use Sleep Powder."

Sam's Beedrill, directly flew high to escape the powder but Jon seemed to have prepared a strategy. Butterfree without Jon's command directly used gust to send waves of wind which dragged along the Sleep Powder towards Beedrill.

I raised my eyebrow at the chaining of moves. It is generally a criterion for earning the first gym badge, which signifies the Pokemon Trainer at least has some idea about Pokemon training.

Beedrill, showed the result of the training as he elegantly changed his flight trajectory with ease, dodging the sleep+gust filled winds.

"Beedrill, use pin missle." Sam countered with an easy-to-use, fast attack. I watched as the bug-type energy gathered on the drills and shot out the bug-type missiles, honing on to Butterfree.

While the bug type Butterfree has some resistance. It is just that small resistance. Still, Jon showed another facet of Pokemon training. He used a TM tutored move.

"Butterfree, Use protect."

I watched as the normal energy formed a green spherical orb, easily taking the Pin missiles. Still, the disadvantages of TM moves are clear, they are not easy to master. The scene unfolding in front of me is a clear example of consequences.

Butterfree took a few moments to recover from using the move, a chance that Beedrill was happy to exploit. I watched as the Poison energy gathered on its drill into thick position energy that was leaving a purple trail as Beedrill flew towards Butterfree.

Jon impressed me with his next move, "Butterfree, use Whirlwind."

[Whirlwind: A normal type of move that sends heavy winds to send the opponent flying. But it is not used in Pokemon battles, as the wind in this move doesn't cause the damage.]

There is reason for such a move to exist. Jon found it and used it in this situation. I watched as the Beedrill was sent flying, creating a gap for Butterfree to exploit.

Under the background of Sam's shouts for Beedrill, Jon screamed out, "SOLAR BEAM."

The crowd roared in anticipation at the heavy hitter's move, as the grass energy slowly gathered in the mandibles of Butterfree.

I couldn't help but whistle at the match that was about to end. Contrary to the thoughts of the crowd, my comment on the ending is different, "I guess the match is Sam's win."

Beedrill managed to stabilize itself and shook its head to get his mind back in the fight. But the distance is already too much to cover for the assassin bug.

Jon said as much, "The victory is mine, Sam."

Sam replies, "Not so soon," he then yells out the victory move with a smirk, "Beedrill, Time to use Venoshock."

Beedrill executed the command beautifully, as the poison rained down from his drills like a water jet into Butterfree disrupting its Solar Beam. The resulting explosion sent Butterfree into the ground

Using the chance, Beedrill followed Butterfree to the ground and slammed a Poison Jab into the falling Pokemon.

Sam, showing a rare decisiveness befitting a trainer, shouted out, "Give another Jab, Beedrill. Better to be sure."

Beedrill nodded while keeping the drill that held Butterfree to the ground, He charged another Poison jab in his second Drill.

Sam in a playful tone. repeated Jon's previous words, "The victory is mine, Jon."

The crowd erupted in cheers as Beedril slammed the second poison Jab, effectively sending Butterfree into the realm of dreams.

Amidst the cheers of the crowd, I heard a voice coming from behind me, "Impressive little guy. You have a good eye to be able to notice Sam's strategy at such a young age."

My attention shifted to my back as I noticed the approaching ginger-headed man with a rock-solid muscular body, a scar on his cheek skin, and burns on his hands.

Dregen, Sam's adoptive father, observed me with a knowing smile, as he playfully said, "It is as if you helped him set the strategy."

Rather than being embarrassed by the praise like a normal kid, I bluntly said, "Yes, I was the one who helped him. I even helped make a detailed diet plan for his Pokémon."

Dregen scratched his beard at my blunt answer, which threw him off his rhythm. Still, I am happy he continued to get straight to the point, "So, Sam told me that you wanted to meet me. Why?"

I frowned at that. It seems Sam is unwilling to take the risk and directly drops the matter to his father. Still, I directly gave my request.

"I want a Pokémon."

Dregen burst into laughter, a hearty sound that echoed in the air. After a moment, he composed himself and responded, "Wait a few more years, young one. Grow up and be responsible for your Pokémon partner. There's still time for you."

I shook my head, a spark of defiance in my eyes. "I am more mature and responsible than all the kids participating in the tournament combined."

Dregen raised an eyebrow, intrigued by my bold claim. "Is that so? What makes you think you're ready for a Pokémon now?"

I pointed toward the next match unfolding in the arena. Sam faced a new challenger, a kid with a Pidgeot of all things. I must say the battle is quite intense.

With that, I bluntly pointed at Sam's Beedrill. "Take Sam's Beedrill, for instance. Its win rate and rate of growth are the proof of my talent. My breeding talent is unmatched."

Dregen raised an eyebrow at that, reminding me of Sam, but I continued with my explanation, "I can even create a personalized diet plan for your Pokémon and plan for new moves for them. Shortly, I hope to share my expertise with many others for the same small price of money. Though, I would appreciate some referrals from someone respected like you."

I may have erred a bit at the last point, as there seemed to be a change in the air. Dregen's face hardened. In a second, I realized why.

After all, the so-called respect for him, came from his past, in which he killed some scum. Though it was applauded by society, it kind of ruined him. He was banned from any official positions or competitions in the League. Essentially sealing all paths to in league.

Even now, he has a murder case still ongoing in the court.

His voice came out cold probably from my reminder of his past, "My Pokémon are in a completely different class than that little guy. I have completed the Kanto circuit and even participated in the Indigo League 15 years ago. Stop being a naïve kid and get lost."

A light emanated from his waist's Pokéball, revealing a Beedrill at least 50% bigger than Sam's, adorned with numerous scars all over its body.

I could see this Pokemon was different because the mere sight of this Pokémon made it difficult for me to breathe. I realized now, how those anime characters felt looking at villains oozing killing intent.

SCREECH

His angry screech ended as I immediately sat down on the spot.

Unfortunately for Dregen, it is not out of fear. Trust me, the sheer amount of good reputation this guy has is unbelievable. If it wasn't for the murder case, I am sure, many would name him a saint.

There is a reason I approached Sam, after all. He is like the Son Goku of Berrytown and its surrounding villages.

So, I took out a notebook without fear and started writing down the Beedrill data I could derive from the help of AI. While it doesn't have the capabilities of Leylin's AI, it can use the information I can gather.

You will be surprised just how much information can derive from the senses of humans.

A smile came on my face at their stunned expression as I wrote down the plan of improvement for a professional elite Pokémon. In the Pokemon world, Papa Beedrill is equivalent to a professional sports player in our world. Though, it is in its old age now, just on the edge of retirement.

[Pokeblock composition

LUM Berry: Good for Bug Pokémon

Vitamins and minerals based around calcium for hardening of stingers]

First on the list was a detailed berry composition for Pokéblocks, a concentrated food for elite Pokémon. I meticulously noted down the specific berries, their proportions, and the benefits they offered.

Drawing from my knowledge, I explained each choice with scientific reasoning, citing reference books that delved into the nutritional needs of Pokémon.

Next, I crafted a personalized exercise plan for Beedrill. Considering its size and battle history, I designed a routine that focused on agility, endurance, and targeted strengthening exercises. The explanation for each exercise was accompanied by references to studies on Pokémon training techniques and the physiological effects on Bug-type Pokémon.

Moving on to aftercare for Beedrill's stingers, I provided a detailed regimen to ensure their optimal condition. From regular cleaning to the application of specialized balms, every step was backed by scientific reasoning derived from authoritative texts on Pokémon anatomy and care.

The mischievous laughter erupted from my mouth as I reached the topic of pre-mating food for strong vigor.

Fighting down my blush, I continued with the plan, incorporating berries and supplements known for enhancing vitality and reproductive health. The explanation for each item was presented with a touch of humor, blending practicality with a light-hearted tone.

Throughout the process, I referenced well-established Pokémon care literature, citing respected authors and researchers. The goal was not just to provide a plan but to educate and instill confidence in Dregen about me.

As I handed over the written plan to Dregen, I met his eyes with a hint of pride. "This is just a glimpse of what I can offer. Every step is rooted in scientific understanding, ensuring the well-being and peak performance of your Pokémon. So, tell me. Am I worthy of a Pokemon now?"

Dregen looked it over for some time and then gave his verdict, "I will check with a breeder I know kid. But I must acknowledge that even I can see you are talented in Breeding. So, you might be worthy of a Pokemon. Tell me, why the hurry? Why do you seek a Pokémon at such a young age? You know some old folks are still stunned by the legal law allowing 10-year-olds to become trainers."

"That," I emphasized pointing towards the Pidgeot that is winning against Sam's Beedrill, "pure strength without strategy. That guy has had that Pidgeot for more than 6 years, He must have raised it from the Pidgey stage at the very least. It is winning just on pure strength even though Sam is a better trainer comparatively."

Dregen raised an eyebrow and said, "Experience is a part of skill for a trainer. Such is the way life works. It is unfair."

I nodded and said, "I agree with that. But the same experience in my case gives more strength to my Pokemon. It is not arrogance, but just a pure cold fact."

I then opened my arms to complete my sentence, "I can offer more than just strength. I have the knowledge, the understanding, and the commitment to train Pokémon with both strength and intellect."

Dregen observed the match between Sam and his opponent concluding with Sam's loss, he ended up nodding thoughtfully. "You have a point there. "

"It's more about not passing the advantage. I am sure even Sam had his Weedle before 10 years old. Many of the trainers here had their starters for some time, though it may not be as exaggerated as the Pidgeot guy."

Dregen chuckled, acknowledging my bold words. " Yes, I have given Sam that little guy when he was just a needle."

I don't know, why Dregen's expression changed. His eyes seemed to be focusing on me while his brain was running. It is as if he is looking at something else through me. I am puzzled by his change.

But I continued listening to his words to reach my goal, "Little Archer, I get your point, not that I agree with you. Then again, as far as I know, some old ladies in the Pokémon Center give their daughters a Happiny from the crib. For them, the age requirement is more of the timeline from which the children are legally required to take responsibility for their Pokémon. But the critical question is money. Just so you know, I am not running a charity. I am even more so not willing to search the wild for a Pokemon you want."

While I can understand his attempt to stop me from that, he is not prepared for someone like me. When you are a 28-year-old doctor in a child's body, you tend to think of the future.

I met his gaze with a determined expression. "Pokémon are wonders that, with passion and commitment, can lead to success. Though I have no intention of waiting decades to earn money to fulfill my potential as a Pokémon trainer, not when I can earn success through this."

Dregen followed my hand to look at the comprehensive plan for Papa Beedrill. He realized my meaning to earn money through breeding plans.

I finally concluded these repetitive talks, "Money is a tool, but an essential tool, nonetheless. But it is not a problem for me."

I walked away with a mix of excitement and determination.

----------------------

As I strolled through Berrytown, the bustling town square, I couldn't help but ponder the practicalities of turning my AI-boosted breeder capabilities into a sustainable venture.

My mind churned with ideas, and the first step was to establish a clear price plan for my services. The realization hit me that while my expertise was valuable, it must be accessible to a wide range of trainers, from rookies to seasoned professionals to make a decent profit.

After all, I have my AI to do the time-consuming tasks like calculating the dosage and composition.

After careful consideration, I decided on a modest fee structure. A rookie Pokémon diet plan, exercise routine, or a new move tutorial would cost 250-300 Poké dollars each. The choice to keep it affordable was deliberate, as I could increase the market initially.

Even so, I can squeeze 30-40 dollars from each trainer for grooming, healing, etc. Not to forget the profits from revisits.

Especially, special moves like Thunderbolt deserve a price of 1000 poke dollars.

1000 Poké dollars was enough to sustain an individual for a month, covering necessities including entertainment.

This notion aimed to emphasize the affordability of my services and make them accessible to a broader audience. It was a model of low profits but high sales. Frankly, the best one considering I have no official license.

However, I understood that the complexity and rarity of certain Pokémon species warranted adjusted pricing by doubling or tripling.

The same adjustment will work for elite Pokémon like Dregen's Papa Beedrill, the cost would range from 500 to 1000 Poké dollars minimum.

The intricacies involved in caring for such high-level Pokémon demanded a higher investment. So, it is reasonable. If a fucker questions it, then I will leave him in the pen of Rapidashes dosed on Aphrodisiac. This is final.

Hopefully, this will help me fund my first Pokemon.

With a clear plan in mind, I decided to enjoy my stay in Berrytown.
