Chapter 16

" Thank you for flying Kalos international airways. We hope to see you again. " The pilot spoke once the plane landed on the ground. Strolling towards the docking area, the various passengers walked out of the plane. One man with Grayish Blue hair walked down out of the plane, looking at the scenery, one eye covered by his long wavy locks and a single Pokeball attached to his belt.

" Kalos. A fine place to begin my ascension to the top. " He muttered with a smile, walking to the bus.

Atsumu walked through the streets of Lumiose City, eventually reaching the center to stare at the Prism Tower, the city's symbol and the place where the next gym is. After a good long look, Atsumu resolved himself to finish this quickly and walked towards the entrance of the tower...

" Wait! " A voice yelled, directly behind him. Stopping in his tracks, Atsumu. turned around to watch as a man with long wavy Greyish Blue hair ran up to him, panting heavily. letting up and take a breath, the man quickly got up and apologized.

" I'm sorry for disturbing you, but I need to know your name. " The man said, his breath still a little disheveled from the sprint he committed just to reach him. Atsumu stared at him for a while, his gaze directed toward the man's shadow.

' There's someone there, ' Jellicent confirmed. ' He's somewhat strong. '

" My name is Atsumu Miya and you are... "

" Atsumu Miya. My name is Tobias and I wish to challenge you to a battle! " Tobias states.

" Why? " Atsumu asked bluntly. " Also, I'm kinda busy so... "

" The reason is quite simple. Your aura attracted my Darkrai and thus me to you. " Tobias said with a smirk.

" Good for you, but why should I accept? " Atsumu responded bluntly, shattering Tobias's plans. He thought mentioning Darkrai would do it since many people know him, Tobias, the winner of Sinnoh league using two Legendary Pokemon. As such, many trainers who recognized him came to challenge him under the guise of being a cheater.

" Because... Because if you don't, I'll follow you for the entire day until you accept. " Tobias said spontaneously, speaking the first thing that came to mind because he wasn't able to think of anything on the spot to make this man accept.

"You'd actually follow me everywhere I go for the entire day? " Atsumu asked with a raised eyebrow.

" Yes! " Tobias responded immediately.

" Why so desperate? " Atsumu asked, sighing.

" You were walking towards the gym which means you'll probably be entering the Kalos league. I wish to know the difference in strength between you and me. I know you're strong, Darkrai confirmed it when he sensed your aura. " Tobias said to Atsumu but continued in his mind while Atsumu was in thought, ' Not to mention that your aura alone tells me that you are comparable to Cynthia. '

Tobias remembered when he received his league cup from Cynthia. With Darkrai by his side, he could feel Cynthia's aura, a bright gold surrounded her, like a lone bright star in a blackened sky, she was the only one to illuminate in such darkness. Her aura was inviting, calm, friendly, and radiated immense confidence, but Atsumu's aura was completely different.

Darkrai helped him feel it for it was, dread crawling up his spine. It took all of his willpower to just not bow in front of him when his aura spiked, the pressure increasing tenfold, making his legs tremble. Darkrai faired no better, sweat dripped from the side of his face. Yet he and Darkrai held massive respect for Atsumu, looking at him like he was a king, though he did look the part when he had that crown and robe around him.

" Alright then. " Atsumu said. "Let's go have a 1v1. "

" That's enough, I only have one Pokemon anyway and he's all I need. Thank you for agreeing. " Tobias thanked.

' Out of everyone here, he is the only one who poses a threat. But I and Darkrai beat an entire league by ourselves, except for one trainer, but he was the only exception all because of luck. While it took others multiple months to gain gym badges, we gained them in a week's time. ' Tobias thought. ' It's been 4 years since then and I've trained all this time with Darkrai. If I win against him, no one would be able to stop me and my chances against Cynthia will be me holding her champion title! '

Both of them walked away from the tower to the closest battlefield built in Lumiose City. Atsumu stood at one end while Tobias stood at the other. Darkrai appeared from the shadows, ready for battle.

" Quick question. How did you catch him? " Atsumu asked.

" He's my starter. We met many times when I was a young child. Once I was of age, I caught Darkrai when he agreed to come along with me on my journey. " Tobias said.

" So you're childhood friends... that's cool. " Atsumu admitted, finding a legendary at a very young age and then befriending it has a very low chance of occurring. In response to Darkrai getting sent out, Atsumu sent out Dragapult to face Darkrai. Dragapult stared at Darkrai from across the field, sizing him up, and frowned.

' You are weak. ' Dragapult said.

' Weak? Sorry, I must have misheard. Did you just insinuate me, Darkrai, to be weak!!? ' Darkrai asked.

' Your ears are working fine, but I'll say it again. You are weak. ' Dragapult said in disappointment.

Darkrai's aura erupted in fury, covering the battlefield, and catching everyone in it. Tobias was shocked at Darkrai's reaction, while Atsumu simply stared, while Jellicent sighed as she kept Darkrai's aura from affecting the bystanders, people, and Pokemon alike, who began to crowd the battlefield.

" That's a Darkrai, isn't it!? "

" It's a Legendary Pokemon! How did that trainer get one? "

" Hey, I found him. Knew he looked familiar. He's Tobias, the winner of the Sinnoh League 4 years ago! "

" Wait, you mean that guy who just showed up with a Darkrai and swept the entire league! That's him. "

The crowd was beginning to become excited. The appearance of a Legendary in public was a game changer in terms of publicity, especially when it's a former League winner who's made an appearance after 4 long years. After Tobias won the Sinnoh League, he couldn't challenge the Elite Four or Champion in Sinnoh, so he just disappeared after that.

No one knows what he's been up to, but know he's back and he's still using his Darkrai. His win was something that sparked massive controversy, stating how unfair it was that he used a legendary, but that was discarded when the topic of Darkrai's one defeat occurred. The real controversy began and was never resolved when Tobias sent out a Latios.

Two Legendary Pokemon, used by a single trainer. Legendary Pokemon are known for their rarity and strength, this man wielded two of them in the same league. Public controversy had begun but was quickly silenced when an announcement from the Pokemon League was released regarding Tobias's use of legendaries.

In summation, Tobias was banned from participating in any Pokemon League for 4 years and a rule was made in place simply because of his actions. If a trainer finds a Legendary Pokemon, they may only use one in official battles. Thus, when Tobias returned he would be allowed either his Darkrai or Latios, depending on the situation, but he was forgotten.

' Look at them. They are all starting to remember me. Thean who decimated the Sinnoh League and won the entire thing! I did need to use Latios after Darkrai fainted to that one trainer, but that was just luck. ' Tobias thought. ' But I've made sure that it won't happen again. This time, I'll have an overwhelming victory, starting with him! '

" Well then. Are we going to start? " Atsumu asked.

" Hey, isn't that guy asking for a defeat? "

" Poor soul, he's going to get whooped. "

" He's up against a legendary! There's no way he's going to win. "

' That's right! Legendary Pokemon are the strongest! I may not have Latios, but Darkrai is all I need! ' Tobias thought smugly.

The crowd whispered and murmured, but that was silenced quickly when Tobias's voice cut across the area.

" Dark void. " Tobias commanded confidently.

Black spheres with a purple hue were created by Darkrai, which were then launched at Dragapult. Dragapult watched the spheres come closer and closer, his eyes growing bored at the sight, mirroring Atsumu's eyes who grew bored of this fight when he witnessed the first move.

Dragapult redirected the spheres to his sides with his claws, slightly grazing them to knock them off course. Darkrai watched and his facial expression turned into shock from his previous rage. Tobias faired no better than his partner, having never seen someone brush off Dark Void with ease.

" How did you do that? " Tobias asked.

" Dragapult used protect. " Atsumu answered, his bored tone was palpable to Tobias, who stared at Atsumu's eyes, which were bored. Atsumu was bored. Bored of this fight, bored of him.

Was the difference really that large for him to disregard his presence?

' No, that isn't possible! ' Tobias thought, gritting his teeth. With his current team, he could give Cynthia a run for her champion title and Darkrai would be a major contributor. He may be stronger than Cynthia, but he can't be that much stronger than her.

" Dragapult. " Atsumu spoke, " Finish it. "

It was one command, but its weight was heavier than any amount of gold. Dragapult gave a nod of acknowledgment, staring down his opponent, and punched Darkrai in the stomach. The force from the punch knocked the wind out of Darkrai, but Dragapult wasn't done with the disrespect, landing a one-two combo to Darkrai's face, and knocking him to the ground.

The impact caused Darkrai's body to bounce off the ground, but he was;t a good enough height so Dragapult slammed his tail onto Darkrai, giving an extra boost to the correct height he needed to reach in order for Dragapult to grab the back of darkrai's head and slam it into the ground.

Dragapult didn't stop there, repeatedly slamming Darkrai's face into the pavement before slapping him away with his other hand, which sent Darkrai flying into the wall behind Tobias, slamming into it with enough force to make spiderwebs form. Dragapult sighed, his disappointment was immeasurable and his day was ruined. He had the opportunity to fight an actual Legendary, but he was weak. So, so, so very weak.

" Hey... Isn't Darkrai a Legendary? "

" Yeah. This should've been in its favor. Darkrai should have won right? "

' Yes! He should have!! ' Tobias thought.

Tobias returned Darkrai to his Pokeball while Atsumu returned Dragapult his Pokeball and walked up to Tobias, while the crowd was lost in their own world, trying to comprehend what should be quite easy to understand, but Legendary status bias got in the way. But not wanting to have the crowd stick around, Atsumu commanded Jellicent to use Confuse Ray to make the crowd disperse. At the highest level of use, Confuse Ray can be controlled to perform illusions, and without the two trainers on the field, why stick around?

" Is it really this easy? That's all it took? " Tobias muttered, staring at Darkrai's Pokeball, his hand shaking in disbelief. " What would have happened if I had faced Cynthia, no not even her, just the Elite Four. Would I have been able to defeat... Yes!! I should haven would have!! I beat an entire league with Darkrai alone, there should have been no way for me to lose!! "

" If you mean beating rainers who haven't faced the advanced gym circuit, then I'm not interested. As for the champion and elite Four, if they are as component as I expect them to be, then you're not going to be able to beat a gym leader let alone a champion. " Atsumu said bluntly, standing behind Tobias.

" I wouldn't even be able to beat a gym leader... " Tobias repeated. " Don't screw with me! I have Darkrai on my side! A legendary, there's no way... "

Tobias wasn't able to speak further, his flow instantly stopped, reduced to zero by a single punch to the face by Atsumu straight to his nose. Falling to the ground, Tobias clutched his nose in pain, blood poured out, staining his hand and his clothes.

" You soloed every gym using Darkrai, didn't you? " Atsumu coldly stated. " You used Darkrai for everything. If there was a trainer, you'd use Darkrai and now, if there's a trainer you can't defeat with your other Pokemon, you'll simply use Darkrai but that isn't possible as you would have technically lost if Darkrai went down. You lost to me, your powerful Legendary crushed beneath my foot. And I'm not the only one who could.

Spoiler alert, you aren't even strong enough to give gym leaders a real challenge when they use their original team. You want to know the reason, it's because Darkrai is still the only Pokemon you have and you'll use it against weak Pokemon fitting for those who start with zero badges at the beginning of their journey. If you took the advanced circuit, you wouldn't even be able to beat the first gym. "

Atsumu's aura flared, and the pressure on Tobias increased 10-fold, making it hard to breathe. Atsumu closed his eyes after staring at Tobias's face, the pressure soon lifted and he no longer cared, though he had to admit, this was a good way to pass time, if nothing else.

" You were a good distraction, I'll give you that. You made me able to subtract time without watching the minutes tick by. Thanks. " Atsumu said to Tobias, leaving the man to watch his back as he walked away while he sat on the ground holding his nose with Darkrai's Pokeball in his hand.

' Can't even beat the advanced circuit? That's ridiculous! What do you know anyway!? You're just a freak of nature! ' Tobias thought in anger, frustration, and humiliation, remembering how Dragapult destroyed Darkrai and Atsumu's words. ' I'll show you! I'll just train and beat you! But first I'll go defeat every gym leader in the advanced circuit!!

I'll make you see reality. '

Atsumu walked away from the battlefield, the crowd had already dispersed but had not forgotten what had transpired, except for Atsumu's and Tobias's little scuffle. The video was soon posted on the internet, Poketube to be exact and the views were coming in hot. 100,000 became 1,000,000 , 1,000,000 became 10,000,000 and so on. It was a one-sided beatdown in favor of Valerie's "boyfriend", those old photos came back with a vengeance.

Ash and the gang, watched the video in silence, both amazed and surprised.

" It was really that easy for him. " Ash muttered.

" He beat a legendary, without using a legendary of his own. " Serena said.

" I still can't believe Tobias lost so easily," Ash said, Pikachu nodding his head in agreement.

" You a fan of him Ash? " Clemont asked curiously.

" Nope. I just faced him in the Sinnoh League in the semi-finals. " Ash said, his tone bitter. " And lost. "

" Wait, so you're the only person who managed to beat Darkrai!? Isn't that something to be proud of?! " Bonnie asked.

" Well, I would, if he didn't send out a Latios right after and defeated the rest of my Pokemon while having 4 Pokemon left over!! " Ash exclaimed in frustration, startling Serena and Bonnie, who didn't expect him to act like that.

" Oh yeah, he did. The league had to do something about it. " Clemont reminisced.

" Was it that bad? " Serena asked.

" Yes, it was that bad. I basically went back to my home without a trophy in my hands because some random dude got lucky to get a Darkrai and Latios to win the entire league! " Ash spoke heatedly, before taking a deep breath, chuckling to himself. " Sorry guys, I guess I never made peace with that. "

" Well it was bad, but you beat two Legendaries. That's really amazing. " Serena stated.

" Yeah. But that didn't really stick with me, no matter how hard I tried. What did stay was bitterness and stayed with me when I went to Unova. I traveled through Unova before coming here." Ash clarified.

" The first thing that happened was that it affected my performance in Unova. It was fun, the region was packed with many interesting Pokemon and places to visit.

But my battling skills were complete shit. Compared to how I was in Sinnoh, I behaved just like how did on my first journey through Kanto, like a new trainer, who was new to battling altogether.

I made stupid decisions, and obvious mistakes and never addressed them, but still managed to get eight badges somehow! But the worst thing that happened and stung the most was quarterfinals battle in the Unova league against a trainer named Cameron.

He brought 5 Pokemon to the fight, defeating 2 of my Pokemon using his Hydreigon at the beginning before I proceeded to beat his remaining Pokemon. And yet he beat me, using his Riolu which evolved mid-battle and swept me. Karma at its finest, since I got lucky in the same way multiple times. "

Ash's shoulders slumped, feeling relaxed, like a burden was taken off his shoulders.

" Wow! I feel much lighter now. " Ash said.

" Well, you did just spill your innermost thoughts which you've kept hidden for a long long time. " Clemont said. " Makes sense that you'd feel lighter after you finally got that off your chest. "

" Well, I don't think you'll have to worry. Darkrai doesn't seem too strong in this video at all. Maybe he got weaker. " Bonnie said.

" I think it's more likely that Atsumu is just ridiculously strong. " Serena said.

" What Serena said/ Serena is correct. " Ash and Clemont said respectively at the same time.
